The more reliability you want, the higher is your urge to pay for software you use. You have the choice between free and quality. Free software coders can never have enough budget to investigate new ways to reach paid software's quality.

One neat exception is, maybe, FreeBSD as Apple puts a lot of effort and money into it.

Germany has something similar to a "copyright" to some extent. Once you have created something, you will always be its creator.

But only the creator! This does not mean that others will have to ask you for your permission to do anything unless your chosen license enforces that. (Licenses that can't be read before the installation of a software are invalid here, so actually we didn't even have to obey the Microsoft EULA for a couple of years.) My work is never "copyrighted" in terms of © - everyone has the right to copy it.

You are right, we're not talking about patents here. I just wanted to add this so you become jealous. Did it work?

Actually it is not. The number of fucks I give concerning US-American laws equals a number smaller than or equal to 0.
And I am pretty sure that neither the GPL nor the BSD license (or, randomly, the WTFPL) are actual copyright licenses.

Re oblivion's experiences with the support: All crashes reported during the beta testing period were fixed immediately. Even some which they could not reproduce. Seems like they improved the QA process.

I am really considering using my Bat portably too, but as his thread (thanks for the link) says I shouldn't...

I wonder why I missed the whole The Bat! thing here. Time to keep up.

Use IMAP. 

That aside, The Bat! (Professional/Voyager) features a scheduler for complete backups into a user-defined folder, so it is surely more reliable than many other e-mail clients.

The Bat! knows several plug-ins which do that, e.g. the AntiSpamSniper (which is available in a quite good free version). I use the Spamihilator with it.
(For the accounts which don't have SpamAssassin yet.)

They lost their bug tracker's database a while ago. Still they accept feature requests through it, you'll just have to find enough people who vote for it, then there's a good chance for it, I guess.

It's on version 5 right now...I assure you when it reaches version 8 not a damn thing will have been noticeably changed or improved.

The latest beta builds have a quick reply window, for example. There are changes and improvements.

$9 for a Thunderbird (which is, as proven in my initial posting, buggy bloatware) with a few dozen built-in plug-ins? Are you serious?
When it comes to Mulberry, I have read a lot about it but never seen it in the wild.

It's still the best client I know for IMAP.

How do you define that? Where does Thunderbird/The Bat! fall short in terms of handling IMAP? I am not so tech-savvy when it comes to RFC specifications.


Edit: I've read through PostBox's website now. Looks like Apple Mail. Bleh.
