One thing I really like about Firefox is, that I can put in an address, press enter and a new tab opens.
It's either an about:config setting I changed like 10 years or so ago or tabmixplus, I don't know.

If it's a Firefox extension that gives you this functionality

yeah, FWIW it is tabmixplus

hi Kalos
I have said elsewhere:
you *consistently* start threads without giving enough information -- this then has to be dragged out of you one question at a time. I need a lot of help on computer myself: I'm the opposite of an expert. One of the things I learned very quickly (I was told) is this: be as helpful as possible when asking for help. Give as much info as you possibly can, do research beforehand, and let them know what you found/didnt find. If a problem, try and fix it yourself: report on that. If you are helpful in these ways, you make the job of the person helping you much easier, and much more rewarding.
I'm no saint, I forget all that regularly, but I'm aware of it, and make up for it where and when I can.

now imagine you want to help some person who has made a post about uninstalling games:
what other info would you need / want in order to be able to help that person?

Requires a little thought maybe, and writing things clearly so we understand without too much effort or interrogation.

In the future, I think we'll need to see a redesign of how Google's OAuth pages work. The problem is that the true entity to which you're granting permissions in Google's OAuth interface is buried under a drop-down window. Right now, the interface really relies on the app developer not lying about its name and app logo, and that's just not good enough.

Finally got to test Agent Ransack,
search string 'Tracing' --
it did find the three relevant files (took a very long time though)

Here the export of results (for one file) --- looks like gobbledygook to me:
Code: Text [Select]
  1. Z:\My Documents\screenshots\MINE\Screenshot - 2017-04-07 , 11_22_49.png 32 KB PNG File 2017-04-07 11:23:20 2017-04-07 11:22:49 2017-04-07 11:22:49 1
  2. 6 Tracing OptionsñH% IDATx^ì½k Ç•çןýXk=özí]ï¬ý] ŠõÚÞÕŒ ±áõÌzրb¢ÃÒö¬W³³ 3 {<#€      uñd7²DR ‘’ÀKJÈ–( à ŠM    Ã¢â€šâ‚¬D“
if I go 'Copy' instead of Export I get
Code: Text [Select]
  1. Tracing OptionsñH% IDATx^ì½k Ç•çןýXk=özí]ï¬ý] ŠõÚÞÕŒ ±áõÌz÷Äb¢ÃÒö¬W³³ 3 {<#€          uñd7²DR ‘’ÀKJÈ–( à ŠM  â‚€D“

it didn't give any further info.

Looks like in order to use the SC comment info properly, the files would have to be indexed :-/

more info here:

I guess it's okay (?) to post the code for the upgrade offer:

it can be very frequently used by people
"Alt" is about the worst key to use for something like this, as it is used for nearly every hotkey in every application, and it has the function of activating hotkey-underscores in the menu of standard 'classic' (Win32/WinForms) Windows UI applications when pressed once.

True, I've given up simple Alt+[letter] key shortcuts for that reason: either they dont work, or stop the Alt menu combinations from working.
FWIW
I have/use a good few Alt key shortcuts in combination with another qualifier key (+ letter key) without problem.

Hi Chris,
looks good, looks very 'mature' / polished.
Active forum, reasonable price, especially so with reduction.

I'm not in need of a PIM myself so wont be testing, but I suspect others will.
best of luck

What do you think when you see this picture?

"I know that place . . . managed to help lose a boot belonging to a friend of mine over the edge of those cliffs once when a bunch of us were there and messing around. Not very intelligent, and the one booted friend wasn't too happy.
Great birdwatching (cliff/seabirds) there: if you have a pair of binoculars it's amazing. Bits fall off of those cliffs reasonably regularly -- if they are really cycling around there, they must be bored with [regular] life. (Maybe they need to get more interesting jobs?). Wondering why the PDF... "
Cliffs of Moherw

Further thoughts:
there's a tower on the cliffs built in the 1830's by a local landowner called O'Brien. He was also a member of parliament (MP) in London. The stone in the area of the cliffs is a limestone slate, which is still quarried in large sheets an inch or two thick.
The story goes that O'Brien made a bet with a few other MP's in London, that he could build a wall two inches thick, four foot high and a quarter of a mile long. He won the bet.
Couldn't find a great image, but here one:

I stand corrected -- I was finding JPG files too.

Seems PNG searching is not working in xnview OR I am misunderstanding something.

the odd thing is ExifInfoGUI shows the info in 'description' field,
Dopus just has the pixel dimensions in the 'description' field.
I tried anything that sounded remotely like an info field in dopus:
all empty

Screenshot - 2017-04-28 , 16_19_37_ver001.png

Part the problem here might be that these fields are not fully standardised. Even in the dopus shot there, there's a Title field for Documents and one for Pictures - both with the same name :-/

Looking at my screenshot in previous post above again:
I checked and that description field is not in any of the sub-buttons listed:
Exif / IPTC / XMP / etc.
is listed under the title PNG which makes it seem it a standard field/column (not sure what term to use)
1386
mouser,
it appears to be a weakness of XnView and Picasa (and Dopus) in relation to PNG's.
EDIT// Re Dopus my version is 12.3 - must update to 12.4 and check again. //EDIT

I remembered I have ExifToolGUI (8.35) here -- a GUI for ExifTools:
it shows all metadata for PNG files -- below the file I needed that got me going here:

Screenshot - 2017-04-28 , 11_41_53.png

unfortunately it does not seem to have any search, or filter for exif etc info, so will have to find something that works well there
1387
Ok I see now that when SC saves to jpg, tiff, gif, it puts it into the standard "comment" field.
But when saving PNG files, SC puts it into a "png key" called "Description".
So the trick when searching is to search the Description tag (maybe called Caption for some apps?)

For example xnview CAN see the description but lists it under IPTC tag of "Caption".

For example in xnview:

mouser, turns out the files I was finding were jpegs:
the info was in the 'description' field.

With PNG files, I still cannot find *any* info from SC's comment box using XnView or Picasa.
With XnView I tried each of the following: Description / IPTC >All / IPTC > caption / EXIF >All / Comment
Now,
I'm not sure I fully trust XnView nor Picasa.

Maybe better to use something that simply shows all metadata for the file.
Using Dopus to show all metadata:
(Viewer >Edit metadata) shows no information for PNG files.
Note it does show the info in description field for JPG files.

That's as far as I've gotten today - and I dont really know where to go from here (any ideas anyone?)

the technician and I misunderstood each other more than I could imagine was possible: After mounting the GeForce 710-2, as planned he also installed a Solid State Drive as my new C: drive. But then he deleted everything from my old C: hard drive, without first copying / moving / keeping anything => absolutely not according to plan! I now have a strong but empty computer.

ouch!
that was really bad . . .

I thought that had resolved it here mouser, but unfortunately Bizarre Behaviour going on here:
it finds e.g. 'InfoQube'
but
cannot find 'Illustrator' (or any of the other text quoted above)

All files are PNG, I compared filepaths to ensure I'm not losing my sanity -- they definitely in the same folder.
If anyone can think of anything else that might affect this, shout.

Got the same results with Picasa:
finds the first, but not the second :-/

I will have another look at this when I have the time.
1391
@AnthraXXX, an outside chance might be Renegade (who posts above)
he used always download videos before watching -- you could try sending him a PM
1392
If Picasa does not seem to be finding the data that you know is in the .jpg image files, then it will probably be because either Picasa has not been told to capture the folders where those files are, or has not had time to index them.
no,
I'm reasonably familiar with Picasa, so can safely say that neither of those the case here.
I cant imagine the slightly older version of Picasa makes the difference, but can try the newer version tomorrow.

I presumed mouser is following up on where the info is in the screenshot file, but can try your Irfanview suggestion tomorrow.
1393
I thought we'd already pretty much done this one to death some time ago - refer the DC forum thread: Re: Feature Request: Search text notes in screenshots

The  best proggy I have come across for searching through and indexing image files by text content in various fields is still Picasa.
The Picasa "Sunset" version, availability and download links are described in the DC forum thread, here: Re: Picasa to be 'phased out'

I tried Picasa: am I missing something -- it seems to have very basic search (Ctrl+F, version 3.9.137), it didnt find any comment text.
I can try Agent Ransack at some stage but dont have it installed

but I guess at this stage the question is where this information is stored
1394
must have been fun to work there, before that all came out
1395
Hmm.. Anyone know any other image-comment-searching tools to test with?

I opened the 'Comment' column in dopus, it's not showing anything for these files:

Screenshot - 2017-04-25 , 17_18_17.png

is that the column the text should be in?
1396
^ I'll see what I have installed here . . .

PS for my last post mouser, I wanted to take a screenshot showing the text in the comment field in SC - as soon as I press any of the SC hotkeys, the field would go blank.
No big deal -- just reporting

the free and excellent XnView program can search inside image comments.

I had reason to try this today --  unsuccessful for me with XnView (portable) current version 2.39
Double-checked and did a test: I could see the files I was looking for in XnView as thumbnails, but search still couldnt find

couldnt find:

Newly updated beta includes a new customizable hotkey to toggle clipboard capture on and off, which might be useful for scenarios like this.
thanks for this mouser, will make use of this

my ideal would be (I think like Chessnia is requesting) a hotkey that would copy selected but not save it in the CHS database. Not sure how, or if, that could be implemented.
