If you have run it at room temperature, and are going to try freezing...you should also try putting it in the oven...for comparable test data  :Wizard:

Cash Shop Games (Which are usually free to play) are a huge business model purely because you entice your fan base onto your game...get them hooked...then reel them in.  It's very simple.

One of the reasons that I never got into World of Warcraft was the fact I had to pay up front for a game I potentially wouldn't play enough to be able to validate the amount of money spent each month...same with EVE Online and a few others...yet on games like Forsaken World, War of The Immortals, Battle of The Immortals, Tera...and more...I was able to get into the game BEFORE handing over any cash...and because I was lazy and impatient...I headed over to the cash shop...took out my credit card..and spent some money.

I didn't really mind spending the money purely because...well...those people have to eat as well!  They don't charge for their game...they don't throw advertising into it...so where the hell else would they make their money?

Plenty of games publishers noticed a HUGE increase in profit when they moved away from Pay2Play to Free2Play (Cash Shop) mode...it's a simple matter of math........Go Pay2Play and attract maybe 10% of people who would otherwise want to play you game (For whatever reason...maybe they can't afford $10 EVERY month....or maybe they just don't WANT to pay that)...yet..go Free2Play...attract the other 90...the 10% who paid will then spend that money on cash shop items because they are used to paying you...and even if only 45% of the 90% remainding actually spend money...the developer is already earning more...the more people that play, the more people know about their game...word of mouth gets out...youtube videos get uploaded, more people register and login, which means more people spending money...even if they only spend $15 ONCE...that is $15 they otherwise would never have got...pretty simple to figure out which is the better option really ;)

Great Obit by Russell Brand

http://www.theguardi...madness-broken-world

Is it melancholy to think that a world that Robin Williams can’t live in must be broken? To tie this sad event to the overarching misery of our times? No academic would co-sign a theory in which the tumult of our fractured and unhappy planet is causing the inherently hilarious to end their lives, though I did read that suicide among the middle-aged increased inexplicably in 1999 and has been rising ever since. Is it a condition of our era?

Russel Brand never ceases to amaze me...I used to think "Wow...just another drug crazed 'funny man'" and yet, his insightful and intellectual comments make me realize that I was a complete asshole for judging a book by its cover.

On the main note:  Robin touched many generations and was an amazing actor and comedian and will be sadly missed by a LOT of people.

Rest in Peace dude, and I hope you are up there making all our lost loved ones laugh.

Site/Forum Features / Re: Google ad test
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on July 23, 2014, 12:40 AM »
Kind of wanted to bump this topic for a couple of reasons.

I didn't really look at this thread last year when this all happened, but as for blacklisting those big download button ads and such, they can all be blacklisted pretty simply through the Google control panel.

On another note, a better way to moderate what ads would be available on the website, is to not use such operators as Google.  Instead, one could simply be more selective by having an internal Ad Panel, where members could pay $X for Y Impressions/Clicks for their banners.  These ad accounts would be setup through DC itself and moderated by the DC Gods.  You can also then choose how, where, and when these ads appear.

As an example of the above, this is how I would see that happening:

1. A user visits DC for the first time and would see (instead of an ad), a little banner saying something like "Advertise on our website"
2. They then click-through to see what is involved, and they notice that they can choose literal sections for where they are shown, or be allowed to be shown anywhere on the website.
3. They may also see that because the ads shown on DC are very selective and must go through an internal approval process before being shown, they know that their legitimate ads won't be shown against unscrupulous advertisers.

Those 3 steps alone would be a big selling point for most companies.

If you then offered promotions for people to advertise their offerings, such as "Place a link to us on your website and earn $X in impressions" and such things, then this would also improve DCs backlink quality, which obvious improves things such as Page Ranking.

You could give Supporting Members the option to disable ads on their account so they will never be shown, which would then give people more of a reason to donate to get that tag on their account, which would then mean that those who don't want ads, have already donated to the site, so their possible ad revenue from clicking things, would no longer be something to worry about.

Seeing as DC already has an internal currency system, I don't think doing something like this would be too difficult to do as advertisers could use DonationCredits to purchase Advertising Impressions/Clicks around the site...and unlike other advertisers...they don't have to purchase a specific amount of credit...instead they could simply deposit $100 for DonationCredits, and if they don't feel the ads are doing very well after $30 of spending, then they can withdraw the remainder...donate it to other developers....or donate to other people on the website.

Living Room / Re: The Web Never Forgets

Tbh, web browsing habits being tracked is such an old topic now, I don't honestly think there is a single person left online that isn't completely aware of it...I mean...even opening up an Incognito Window in Chrome proves that it isn't completely "Stealth" as it still serves up ads that you see in the normal window based off your browsing habits.

To be honest though...I see this as somewhat ideal, as I am only being advertised things that I might find remotely useful..which on a couple of occasions...I have.  If I didn't want ads, I would simply install ad-block.

Tracking as a whole really isn't "evil" as you say...I mean...Google have to make money somehow seeing as they don't charge you a penny for anything they host...not a bad deal really..."Use this for free so long as you let us show you a couple of adverts"...seems fair to me.

A lot of the time, on certain websites, I will purposely click an advert purely based on the fact that it helps with the running costs for that website...much like Imgur...I clicked ads there before upgrading to pro...just to help support them...If DonationCoder had ads around the website...then I would also click them, because the more people that do...the more money the website would earn...simple as that.

If TV channels could tap into "Targeted Ads" then it would be a perfect scenario...as I would see stuff I might actually give a crap about rather than a constant stream of stuff I will quite probably never buy/use/want.

Was just thinking about this whilst making a coffee...

What about having the option within ones profile section, or possibly a button somewhere on the website which would allow those links to show a bigger version of the images, or the original ones retrospectively.  (Eg...... (+) (-) buttons).

Alternatively, I am pretty sure SMF has mods that check what platform/device a user is using, and could be used to show X for one device and Y for another.

Just my 2cents :)

Every night for the past three years, a junkyard dog in Brazil has made an eight-mile journey along dark and dangerous roads so she can retrieve a bag of food for her friends – another dog, a cat, and several chickens.  At first she left home to feed her puppies, but now she still makes the journey so she can feed her friends.

Hello Mr. S!

It's been too long since you graced us with your company. Glad to see all is well.

Nice photo too. There can never be too many redheads in the world AFAIC. (Got one of my own many years ago and never looked back!) And such a noble dog!...(Got one of those too!) Life is good. :)

Haha cheers for the kind words :)  Katie isn't naturally that colour and currently has black/blue hair...I'm fairly sure (but not 100%) that she is naturally brunette...but who the hell knows these days haha

Munch is completely insane and does this kind of thing all the time haha:
