Find And Run Robot / Re: Farr is not very responsive when it is searching
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 24, 2008, 05:53 PM »
I think i agree with macs, although it works in the easiest way possible, there isn't anything suggesting that the list can be reordered. Maybe the arrows up/down would make sense even though drag+drop exists.

They wouldn't be able to market it under that name in Denmark :)
Good thing farr now can translate danish to english :)

The idea that Curt is asking would be similar to pinky basket, but instead of having "paste file(s) here", it'd be "create shortcut(s) here", from what i understand.
I'm not a fan of shortcuts (i only rarely create one), but i can see the usefulness, i've used pinky basket in the past and it's a pretty good idea.

Reminds me of a girl friend of mine, that constantly refuses to install any new programs on her Vista because the pop-up says it could be dangerous.
On the other hand, if she doesn't understand why vista says that (which is what leads her to accept its advice), she probably shouldn't be installing the software to begin with. Thus, that specific warning in that specific situation actually makes sense. (on any other situation, it's just plain anoying :))

Could it be related to the C# sdk? They both are programmed in c#.
Does FarrTunes also cause that behaviour?

:D It's always great to hear good things about gridmove!!
(even though i think it's unfair to compare it to the perfectness of farr :P)

I think there's another important issue here: bartolome may have downloaded SC from a site that is modifying people's software.. I really wouldn't like to see that happen. Thus, if it's possible, could you try to find out where you got SC from?
1359
bartolome.simpson: I'm sorry, but you must be doing something wrong. I just downloaded the latest version of SC from its page and sent it to http://virusscan.jotti.org/ but no virus was found on any antivirus...

[edit] looks like app beat me to it

bartolome: Something serious might be happening in your computer, most possibly, it is infected with some virus and generating these wrong results..

Not really, the game has to contact the central servers to update your medal counter and compare it against other people's results, obtaining the ranking which you can see above the race selection menu. It must been using a tiny amount of bandwidth, but it's being used.
Ok, that would make sense.. But either that list is REALLY big, or they are downloading a HD movie displaying a bright medal spining, because that wouldn't account for 300MB of bandwidth after a few hours of single player gaming :P

Actually, after further investigation, i have found out that the p2p network is used for distributing the avatars, the custom paints and cars, etc etc.. Thus, it is as active when your playing the single player game as when you're playing the real game. Nevertheless, i think it should have a warning somewhere.
1361
I love this game, but i just want to warn you about something: Recently, i've been having bandwidth problems (going over the ISP established limit). From what i understand, this is related to trackmania.
Potentially, this happens because i had p2p on, although i think it is stupid for TM to use bandwith even when playing single player (which is what i've been doing).

Carol: that's just ff2's default behaviour, it's supposed to work like that.
On ff3, that isn't the default anymore, but it's still available as an option.

Find And Run Robot / Re: instead of launching programs farr opens notepad
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 20, 2008, 07:32 PM »
Ok, there definitelly is a sever problem there. I've just tried opening the shortcut to calc on notepad, and the result was very similar to that.
Can you try making a shortcut to a file and open it by double-clicking it? (outside of farr)
Something with the association of shortcuts might be messed up.

Also, please try something else: go to farr's options and toggle "Always launch shortcuts directly...", maybe that helps.

How about for other file types? What happens when you open an .mp3 orr a .wav file on farr?

Thanks a lot for taking the time to sort this out, hopefully solving the problem for you will help solving the problem for other people suffering from the same issue..

thom0522: Could you try launching the calculator? Does that still happen?
My doubt is if it happens for all file types or only for some. Also, when it opens the notepad, does the notepad have any file open (any text)?

Most probably this topic: Gemx-Missing in Action? is relevant for your choice of buying gemx products.

PS:I have nothing against/for gemx, i didn't even read the thread, i just thought i'd link to what seems like the largest thread about gemx here on DC.

Impressive!!
Try typing '1', and then adding '1's to the end(or the beggining :P). This way, you'll see all the stuff they have, it's pretty cool to see all that variety :)

« Last post by jgpaiva on June 19, 2008, 07:04 AM »
I don't know about the first thing you mentioned, but i can answer about fcalc:
Have you changed the default name of fcalc? Because it always acted like that, when you press enter, it saves the expression, clears the entrybox and types "fc" again, so that fcalc is launched again. Possibly, if you have changed the name from "fc" to "fcalc" or something like that, it types "fc" but that isn't a match for fcalc again.

General Software Discussion / Re: FARR in PC World's "Tips and Reviews"
« Last post by jgpaiva on June 18, 2008, 08:53 AM »
Another benefit of FARR--one that makes it different from SlickRun and other favorites--is that it comes from a developer at donationcoder.com, an active site for software developers. The forums there are lively, but not too busy to keep up with.
DC really getting some love.. Nice! :D

From what i've noticed, there are quite a few major extensions that still haven't been updated :(
The browser is great, though (even though i hate how it acts when it gets to a page who's certificate has expired)
