For those that might still prefer things in OneNote to emulate a "Diary" or a "Zettelkasten" , there are now two potentially useful OneTastic macros: (click on the links)

I am not recommending these, as I consider them to be largely superfluous for all pragmatic purposes, but if people wanted something like that, then they might be just the ticket.

^^Thanks!

Under what circumstances would CHS (v2.36) put files:
  • tmpin.txt
  • tmpout.txt
- into the CHS program folder?
I recall taking a clip of the contents of the first file, but there is no clip in CHS, so I may have subsequently deleted it.
The contents of the second file appear to be a very garbled version of the contents of the first file.

Odd thing here. Text is in the spoiler below.

CHS "hang" with unusual icon with a little green arrow, in the Systray.
Whilst messing about on 2016-12-15 (0429hrs) with testing the CHS "laggy" problem (not absolutely sure, but I think it was CHS v2.37), CHS hung (stopped responding), and I noticed that it had this icon with a little green arrow in the Systray. Since I had never seen it before, I took a screenshot, meaning to ask you what the icon signified. Then I killed the CHS process (in Process Hacker) and restarted CHS - and promptly forgot about it.

Then, with CHS v2.38 the same thing happened earlier this morning (2016-12-18) - CHS hung, the little icon was there, and I killed the CHS process (in Process Hacker) and restarted CHS.

I don't know what the little icon with the green arrow signifies. Could it be related to a CHS hang? Since I had never seen it before (previous CHS v2.36), I wondered whether you had introduced it in v2.37.

Cross-posted from: Re: Problem: CHS consistently very slow to display clips. Need workaround or fix.
This can definitely be flagged as "FIXED" now!
I have downloaded CHS v2.38 BETA Portable.zip and installed it, from
CLIPBOARD HELP+SPELL LATEST VERSION INFO THREAD - v2.38.0 BETA - Dec 16, 2016

Thanks a lot for doing this speed-up. Nice work. You raised the bar of CHS' performance.
CHS v2.38 BETA is blazingly fast - just like it should be. Out of interest, I was just comparing it side-by-side with CHS v2.36 BETA on another laptop. No contest!
And thanks also for improving the functional ergonomics of the Home/End keys. It's only a small ergonomic improvement, but, when one uses those keys as frequently as I tend do on a daily basis, then it can all add up so that even a small ergonomic improvement like that can make for a vast improvement over time, in terms of time saved.

By contrast, the speed-up is also an ergonomic improvement, but it's a big deal (massive) improvement for this user, and it changes one's whole perception of the ease-of-use of CHS. After this fix, one can now better use CHS for the sorts of things it should and could have been useful for, by design, but which one had avoided using it for, because it was effectively crippled by such a proverbial PITB. (Because of my critical view and high expectations, I am usually extremely impatient with computer software and can't abide "laggy" functionality in a GUI that I need to use.)

A much happier user now!    :)

Spotted on a message from the Yahoo! InfoSelect Group today:
Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.

Apparently, this is intended as an advertisement for an US$11,000 (or so) camera lens. I have always enjoyed taking mechanisms apart and putting them back together again (starting with an alarm clock when I was about 8 y/o to see what made it "tick" - much to my mother's horror) and later on I enjoyed working on CAD/CAM systems used to generate things like FEA, 3D solid models, CNC, and exploded component diagrams and the bill of materials for the components - so this video (below) is right up my alley. Beautiful stop-motion type of video simulating the component disassembly.

@Lintalist: Having just download and installed the FFS v8.7 setup (installer), I thought it might be useful or of interest to you - and others with similar concerns re Candyware - if I noted a few observations about the installation process:
  • The download itself did not cause an alert from the AV component in either WinDefender or MBAM.
  • When the installer was executed, it immediately triggered a PUP alert (re the Candyware) from MBAM, but nothing from WinDefender. So I set MBAM to let the installer run this once instead of automatically immediately quarantining it as usual (can't be too careful where children are using the laptop).
  • The installer ran, but it had a disabled "ZIP" install option button (it was greyed out). It had not been thus disabled in the v8.5 installer. This is presumably how the developers now control those users who want a "portable" install in the "$FREE" version. This functionality is presumably now only enabled for the $donation users, so the developers have thus deliberately reduced the value of what the $FREE suckers users get, in order to increase the differential of the value proposition for getting the $donate version. Shonky tactics.
  • The installer requested access several times through the firewall to addresses on the Internet. I run WFC (Windows Firewall Control) and have it set to pop up manual approval windows for any such firewall access requests from new proggies that have not previously been given access. So I just temporarily blocked each request as it arose ("block for now and ask me later"). The installer continued to run after each block.
  • At no time did the installer present me with an option to accept/reject any Candyware installation. (Was the same for the v8.5 installer.)
  • The installation finished normally and apparently without installing any PUP. (Was the same for the v8.5 installer.)

After making these observations, I would guess that, in pursuit of max "$monetisation", some developers may be treading a very fine line between distributing a sound and stable product and deservedly gaining the reputation for deliberate trojan virus-spreading. The developers for FFS are presumably in that bind and this is an example of that. It is what from some perspectives could be an arguably shameful use of Candyware and excessively frequent updates as a mechanism for incrementally marginally ripping people off whilst euphemistically calling the product "$FREE" or "$donationware" (though "$coercionware" might be more applicable).

The so-called "business model" for developers using sourceforge.net seems to have been broken in favour of something less than ethical.
At the moment, there seems to be no security "risk" (for me) to continue using updates to the $FREE version and as @x16wda indicates, no real advantage in, nor incentive for using the $donation version, since it seems at best to be nothing more than a temporary rental/licence.

I would usually consider buying a lifetime licence for a product that I liked/needed, but probably not for FFS now, after what has gone before. One might be able to get away with arm-twisting/lying/cheating/abusing and even stealing from people for a long time, but eventually the silent majority will say "enough" - e.g., (say) as US President Nixon learned, and as the more recent presidential campaigners apparently belatedly discovered. Given the chance, people will tend to vote with their feet.

There was an amusing cartoon of Nixon's head with a caption under it that said "Would you buy a used car from this guy?" Says it all really - though for a long time people evidently did buy into what Nixon said.
So, good as the product is, I'm not entirely sure that I'd buy a "lifetime" licence from the developers of FFS after their apparently relatively poor showing on the commercial front. Similarly for InfoSelect - another of my favourites.
As I have said elsewhere:

Mini-Reviews by Members / FreeFileSync - 2016-12-15 Updates to Mini-review
« Last post by IainB on December 14, 2016, 02:25 PM »
2016-12-15 0717hrs: Updates to the OP (Mini-Review):
  • Version is now v8.7.

  • There are a raft of new/improved features - now numbering 30+

  • The developers put a forced option on users - you either get FFS $FREE with Candyware, OR you start paying periodically recurring licence fee $donations (each time the "thank-you period" ends) - that gets you the temporary FFS Donation Edition with "bonus" (hah-hah) features including:
    • ad-free installation without Candyware
    • auto-updater
    • portable zip package

  • There is an introductory video (quite good) on the website.

  • I have copied to the foot of the OP (Review) above a review that I posted on the FFS website, giving them some feedback:
Review of FFS posted at https://sourceforge....reefilesync/reviews/
    by Slartibartfarst (5 Stars rating)
    2016-12-14

FFS is an excellent $FREE backup tool. It also has one of the most sound ergonomically-designed GUIs that I have come across. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for good, reliable backup software. Why would you NOT want to use it?
As a regular and committed user of FFS (FreeFileSync) since 2012, I wrote a very favourable mini-review of FFS at the DonationCoder.com Forum. That review is periodically updated. Only read it for the information it might give as an introduction to using FFS and/or especially for the comments from people on the forum, who are generally keen fans of using good and innovative software - such as FFS, for example.

FFS is an excellent $FREE backup tool - BUT, the single biggest downside to the tool seems to be the Candyware approach that insists on installing PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs).
I fully understand that the Candyware is done out of necessity for funding and that it may also explain the high frequency of updates/changes released for FFS. However, Candyware is simply a huge PITA - it upsets the AV (Anti Virus) software and MBAM (Malwarebytes) - and rightly so. Goodness knows what CR#P it is trying to install.

Unfortunately for FFS, Candyware seems to be the single biggest negative reason that many potential and existing users have mentioned to me for NOT using FFS and for instead using some other (and possibly inferior) backup software. I just thought I'd mention that, because it drives users away, which is not a good thing and the developers would presumably know that - so it is probably all done with deliberate method.

So, FFS is an excellent $FREE backup tool - but the $cost?
Well, you either pay for it with your time and inconvenience from the repeated PITA of Candyware installs and then (say) stop using it because you get sick of that, OR you stump up a $donation.

I actually consider that having the forced option to donate and thereby getting a Candyware-less and also a PORTABLE ZIP installer that auto-updates is a relatively smart and sane way to go - so, all kudos for doing that However, no-one likes being coerced by having their arms twisted, and this will therefore probably antagonise some people (I know it does me) and may even put them off and who otherwise could be giving positive WOM (Word-Of-Mouth) advertising - rather than negative - about FFS - to their friends and relatives. This is reflected in some of the comments in the DonationCoder.com Forum.

I'm wondering whether there would be any use for this - or if it could somehow be repurposed.

Not "broken" per se, but simply doesn't seem to be able to be got working.

Device: FilmScan 35i (a 35mm Film Scanner - the Epson V330 scanner can probably do this better).
I saw this unbranded device had been thrown away in a rubbish skip, together with:
   • a plastic slide carrier
   • a USB cable.
   • (I discovered later that the device comes as standard with a 35mm negative film carrier as well, but that was not with this device.)

A duckgo search showed a list, the first item being a link to a blog article about the thing.
I dl, virus checked  and installed the file linked.
Installation seemed to work OK, but the device did nothing. Its USB connection was OK, and on first being plugged in, pressing the red button on top illuminated the lamp inside, but nothing happened. The lamp would not work after that, until the device was unplugged and plugged in again.

...I have been using xplorer² for years now. Since i don´t have a lifetime license i am still on version 2. And to be honest v3 has no feature that i really absolutely need at this point in time but for the half price i just swept in and bought a new license anyway. ...
___________________________

I too have been using xplorer² in various forms for years:
  • In 2004, I initially started trialling the $FREE 2xExplorer (which is still a useful piece of software), after being impressed with how well it worked in a corporate Citrix migration and set-up (for peculiar security reasons, we needed to avoid implementing the standard Windows Explorer for users).
  • In 2005, I trialled xplorer².
  • In 2006, I  purchased a licence for xplorer².
  • In 2009, I upgraded (purchased at a discount, I think it was) to a paid lifetime licence for the Pro version.
xplorer² blows Windows Explorer out of the water for anyone who browses multiple folders, copies, pastes, moves and searches the PC filesystem frequently
- LifeHacker review

I agree with the LifeHacker review - in daily use, one is constantly reminded with how phenomenally powerful and useful a file management tool it is. Of the various alternatives (and some are very good), I consider xplorer² to be second to none. All kudos to its developer.

It is also ergonomically well-designed, making it easy to use - my 15 y/o daughter and 6 y/o son have been using it without difficulty for years. For example, there's a very useful option to have error messages (that appear with an exclamation mark at the bottom of the display) spoken to you as well - in case you didn't see them (or couldn't read them).

Offer ends in approx. 18hrs.

Yes, I saw that in the AddictiveTips blog feed about 5 hrs ago, but I recall reading about it elsewhere a day or so ago. I don't recall where though. That earlier article recommended not doing the update until the 100% disk usage problem was fixed, so I blocked my Win10 update with the WUMT Update tool and am waiting to see if MSoft correct the update.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Scrolling crop as a standalone tool
« Last post by IainB on December 12, 2016, 01:32 PM »
I use remote control sessions quite a lot - and take screenshots while on those sessions.
This introduces 2 limitations:
  • Time - I collect screenshots to preserve time, and have a 'local view' of what I saw remotely.
For this reason I have SC setup to save the capture automatically without interfering or asking what to do with the capture.
  • The 'object' of interest is remote, embedded in the local 'remote session' window.
This means that SC can't 'pick out' the region out of a 'flat image' (which is the remote session).

Interesting.
This might be of use:
As to the first point - Time: Though I have no need to do it remotely, when working on different client devices, I avoid taking notes and I too "save time" (and especially I record data) by collecting appropriately useful screenshots with text in them as a record of what's happening. I mostly use MS OneNote for that, since it screen-clips and automatically saves the screenclips to a predefined location - e.g., (say) a cloud-based common Notebook - where the images are OCRed and the text is indexed, ready for search.

On the second point - Inaccessible screen images in a 'remote session' window: Though I have never experienced that particular problem, I have occasionally been able to get screen clippings of things that were perhaps not easily accessible for screen clipping, using ScreenCapture ($FREE) from http://limelect.com/...oads/screen-capture/
It uses the program handle to catch  the screen.
This allows hidden screen to be saved.

By the way, in a separate discussion thread some time back, I had suggested consideration be given to building-in OCR functionality to CHS (Clipboard Help & Spell) for when it captures image clips. This could be enormously useful as CHS seems to pick up any image clips that are happening. I suggested this after Microsoft released their proprietary OCR API for application developers.
1368
Just remembered to add this into the Index: (a potentially very useful hack)
(Fixes long filename/file name or long path problem.)
@Shades: The article How To Enable Paths Longer Than 260 Characters In Windows 10 mentions that Win10 Home won't permit access to the GPE (Group Policy Editor), but it does allow access to Regedit (the Registry Editor).
I presume it would be correct, but out of interest I shall try to remember to check it out next time I am working on a Win10 Home PC (like you, I am not usually using Win10 Home - I use Win10 PRO).
1369
I noticed that:
  • The metadata - the AS-IS clip size - as displayed in the bottom RH corner of the Memo pane display is not just the size of the image file, but seems to be a sum of the components of the total clip data size - i.e., the Clip Text component + the Clip Image component.
  • The former - the Clip Text component - includes the fixed meta-data text string. In the above example in the OP, that string is:
    C:\UTIL\Windows utilities\FindAndRunRobot\Plugins\Clipboard Help+Spell\Database\Files\2016\12\12_915x396_1431CF73.png | 915x396  (24.16kb)
However, the Clip Text component also would include any other text that the user has added as notes  - e.g.,I sometimes add extensive notes to an image clip).
  • The the AS-IS clip size seems to be dynamically re-calculated prior to the display of the clip in the Memo pane.

I wondered whether that - the task of dynamic re-calculation of clip size prior to the display of the clip in the Memo pane - might somehow be a contributory factor in the CHS S-L-O-W/stuttering display problem that I have outlined in a separate post.
1370
This request is made on the basis that, for data stores, meta-data integrity is arguably as important as data integrity.
Note:
  • The image below has been sharpened for improved visual clarity.
  • The full text of the image has been copied into the spoiler at the bottom of this post.

Spoiler
Required change to CHS (Clipboard Help & Spell) to maintain meta-data integrity for changed/edited image clips: 2016-12-12 2003hrs
      1. I use CHS to hold image clips captured from screenshots, and then, by clicking the image edit icon in CHS, I edit the images thus saved using SC (ScreenhotCaptor) - having previously set up SC as the default image editor for CHS.
      2. The edited image (AFTER) is then saved over (replacing) the original image (BEFORE), in the CHS database file store.
      3. Below is an example - two images, BEFORE and AFTER.
      4. Notice that the image dimensions and file data size meta-data, as shown in the CHS Memo Title, are the same for both BEFORE and AFTER images: 915x396  (24.16kb), and this same meta-data info is also displayed in the bottom LH side of the Clip Image tab (it is also given in the Clip Text tab for that CHS image clip).
      5. irfanview reports the BEFORE image as being:

      6. However, the AFTER image is in reality now of different dimensions and data size -  irfanview reports it as being:

      7. Also, notice that in the bottom RH corner of the Clip Image tab in each screenshot, CHS displays the correct AS-IS file size.
      8. What I would like is for CHS to verify whether the meta-data AS-WAS (recorded)  for each image is the same as the actual AS-IS current meta-data, and update the former to AS-IS if they are not the same. That is, if an image in the CHS database has been changed/edited, then CHS updates the AS-IS meta-data to reflect that change.

BEFORE: This is the original image captured in CHS:
      Clip Text tab: C:\UTIL\Windows utilities\FindAndRunRobot\Plugins\Clipboard Help+Spell\Database\Files\2016\12\12_915x396_1431CF73.png | 915x396  (24.16kb)

Living Room / Stuff Breaking Faster Than It Used To - planned obsolescence
« Last post by IainB on December 11, 2016, 01:39 PM »
I've bumped this discussion because it has an appropriate title for what I wanted to mention - deliberate and/or planned obsolescence.
There are quite a few references to "planned obsolescence" in various DCF discussions.
For example, I had a bit of a rant about the HP ScanJet 3400C scanner:
EPSON Perfection V330 Photo Scanner + ABBYY and ArcSoft software
...Yesterday I bought a new flatbed scanner (EPSON Perfection V330 Photo Scanner) to replace the HP ScanJet 3400C which I have been obliged to throw away as HP do not support this scanner in Windows7 (they only barely supported it in XP). Its HP drivers and software made it an excellent scanner under Windows98, but it is not good for much now. A case of new and better technology (hardware and software) replacing the older, obsolete technology. ...
________________________________

...though  am extremely pleased with the EPSON V330 flatbed scanner (and especially the bundled software), HP's strategy annoyed me no end as it seemed to be quite deliberate forced obsolescence by HP. "No upwards compatibility. Tough luck if you don't like it."

The hardware was great and would probably last forever.
The software (HP Precision Scan LTX or something) was excellent.
The scanner resolution was a bit dated by modern standards - max 1200dpi - but good enough for most stuff.

HP decided to cease support/upgrade of the drivers and LTX software a while back, so those things wouldn't work in XP, and I had to rely on Microsoft drivers - which worked just fine, but I lost that useful LTX functionality.

Reminded me of the '70s book by Vance Packard "The Waste Makers". ...

I also had an excellent HP DeskJet 3740 A3 printer that was similarly deliberately made "obsolete" through its drivers not being updated by HP.

I was reminded of this today when reading an interesting old post in my bazqux feed-reader, from the ashampoo.com blog:
Ruthlessly calculated failure

One day, my printer acted up. With my blood pressure spiking, I went on Google and quickly discovered that I had just been the victim of what is considered a classic error that would appear roughly after two years on the dot. I phoned the hotline and spent about 30 minutes in hold music limbo until I finally reached a noticeably tired support agent. In these moments, I like to remind myself not to blow my top but to stay calm and explain my situation with facts. Maybe it was because she was so tired but she was surprisingly blunt and honest. "The error occured in the warranty period? That's not supposed to happen!" ...

Earlier this year, there was the HP scam (so it seemed to be) where, by means of an online Windows software update, or something,  HP deliberately locked-up the printers in "fail" mode" if they had non-HP ink cartridges loaded.

By the way. in the ashampoo blog post, the author refers to ifixit.com as a useful source of reference, so I went to look there for some help on fixing the blocked print-head on my Brother multi-function printer-whatsit, and found the very thing I needed:

@mouser: I have drawn a blank.
Despite all the fiddling about, the problem persists and is inconsistent.
I was able to eliminate the problem by reducing the database to 14 clips!!!
(So the problem may be related to DB size.)

In a DB of (now) 600+ rows, CHS can sometimes be scrolling very fast, and then - Whammo! - it's back to the stuttering 1 to 3 second delays in screen display - and that's scrolling over new stuff it hasn't scrolled over yet and re-scrolling over stuff it's already scrolled over. Very frustrating.

Are you any nearer to making a debug version - as you mentioned above - that reports how long it took to "load" each clip, so we can see what kind of pattern we are looking at?
(Thanks.)

2016-12-11 0317hrs: Update.
I have not observed this error happening since installing CHS v2.36.0 BETA - and that is despite my hammering CHS in terms of editing the Memo Title field - where I would have noticed if the problem had not gone away.
So, it's probably safe to call this FIXED now.

General Software Discussion / Using OneNote as a daily journal.
« Last post by IainB on December 07, 2016, 09:31 PM »
This follows on from the immediately preceding post, and poses the questrion: How does one use OneNote as a daily journal?
The implication was that the defunct OneNote 2007 PowerToy called DailyJournal enabled OneNote to be used in this manner.

However - and by way of background - that PowerToy may be redundant:

There is an old question (from December 2012) on the MS Community forum that applies to Office | OneNote | Other/unknown | Office 2010:
Using OneNote as a daily journal
CR Craiglea asked on  December 3, 2012
Hi.
I've recently been upgraded to Office 2010 on my work PC and think it may be time to retire the daily journal I've kept in Word for the last few years. My issue with the Word version is that I previously used macros to create new entries, format text etc, all using a specific template that added a custom toolbar for these tasks. I generally use this to record actions, estimates, include images and tables and occasionally embed data such as Excel or Visio diagrams.

I reckon OneNote should be a better tool for this job but I've not found any easy way to create a new journal entry tagged with the correct date and with space for a title. Ideally I would want to do this automatically or from a trigger. I've tried the "Daily Journal" PowerToy but could not get this to work with OneNote 2010.

Do you have any advice on how to achieve what I am after?

When you click New Page, the page is automatically created with today's date, the current time and a space for the title. Is this what you want or is there more to your template that you want?

The question related to something that is discussed earlier in this discussion thread (above), where I had mentioned the "Daily Journal" PowerToy 2007 as something that I missed - it was "broken" by later versions of OneNote and is now defunct, and no downloadable links for it seem to be available on the Internet or via Wayback or other public archives.
This PowerToy is mentioned here: OneNote Tips - PowerToys, where it says:
Daily Journal for OneNote 2007 - Another great tool from TabletDev.  NOTE: If you're using OneNote 2010 you'll probably have to leave the notebook you're using the Daily Journal add-in with in 2007 format in order for it to work.

However, we don't actually need the DailyJournal PowerToy, or even a OneTastic macro for it, now - if we ever did. I mean, we might have thought we needed it, but, as it says above: When you click New Page, the page is automatically created with today's date, the current time and a space for the title.

In any event, I have long used an AutoHotkey macro that, on pressing Ctrl+Shift+D outputs the date/time string - e.g., 2016-12-08 0832hrs - and I use that as a bulleted heading prefix for every single entry that I make in OneNote, with the actual entry indented below that, so it looks something like this on a new page with a blank title:
_________________________________________________________
(Blank Page Title)
Date/Time page was created.

>2016-12-08 0847hrs: text summarising this 1st entry:
  • 1st line of entry details
  • 2nd line of entry details
  • 3rd line of entry details
  • etc.

>2016-12-08 0850hrs: text summarising this 2nd entry:
  • 1st line of entry details
  • 2nd line of entry details
  • 3rd line of entry details
  • etc.
(and so on.)
_________________________________________________________

The title of the page can be changed to be a holding summary page for the relevant year-month, and the entries can be collapsed, thus:
_________________________________________________________
Diary: 2016-12
Date/Time page was created.

>2016-12-08 0847hrs: text summarising this 1st entry:
>2016-12-08 0850hrs: text summarising this 2nd entry:

(and so on.)
_________________________________________________________

Subsequent entries for 2016-12 can be made on new blank pages, and these can periodically be copy-pasted, or dragged and dropped, or moved to the holding summary page for that year-month, so that at the end of the month, all the entries for that month will be on a single page called:
Diary: 2016-12

All this note creation has been taking place in the Quick Notes section of my main working Notebook. If required, the holding summary pages for each of the 2016 year-months can at some point be moved to (say) the Journals Notebook under (say) the OneNote Section named "2016".

So, all of the entries are treated as Journal entries, with precise and unique date-time flags (could be used as Zettelkasten index keys!). No content can be lost/buried, as material within the entries is fully indexed and may also have been tagged and hyperlinked. Sometimes I may wish to (say) pull together all those entries that relate to notes I have made about Malwarebytes having quarantined PUPs over the year. I can do that by locating them with a simple search for such notes and then moving (or copying?) the relevant entries to a separate page in a Malwarebytes section in another Notebook, with the date-time flags intact/unchanged.

So you can have the Daily Journal by default - literally have your cake and eat it. There is some icing on the cake as well, in the form of the seriously useful OneTastic add-in OneCalendar:

Here is the OneCalendar display:
08_1011x548_523C8F20.png

Now, look what happens when I hover the mouse over the calendar entry of 8th December for "Diary: 2016-09" (it's actually the year-month title of an older diary page that I was working on, on that date) - see how a mini-view of the contents of that page pop up?

Somebody recently asked me if I knew where to download some of the PowerToys that would work in OneNote 2007, specifically:
 * DailyJournal
 * SearchReplace
 * WordCount

These and other PowerToy files and MLO (My Life Organised) files can be downloaded from here (click on link) - file names and sizes as below:
  • OneNote 2007 MLO - DROE tool v04 beta (not much good).zip   (610.8kB)
  • OneNote 2007 MLO - DROE_Tool_Source_Code.zip   (1.9MB)
  • OneNote 2007 MS Labs - CanvasForOneNoteSetup (not all that good).msi   (4.2MB)
  • OneNote 2007 PowerToy - DailyJournal.1.1 (excellent).msi   (446kB)
  • OneNote 2007 PowerToy - SearchReplace (works well).zip   (396.1kB)
  • OneNote 2007 PowerToy - SortPages (not tried).zip   (317.8kB)
  • OneNote 2007 PowerToy - SortSections.zip   (355.3kB)
  • OneNote 2007 PowerToy - TemplateManager.zip   (3.6MB)
  • OneNote 2007 PowerToy - WordCount.zip   (329.2kB)
  • Send To OneNote 64bit XPS Print driver install - XPS2OneNoteSetup.msi   (962.5kB)

Note:
  • The DailyJournal and other OneNote PowerToys apparently can only work on OneNote 2007-formatted Notebooks. The DailyJournal has not been replaced by a OneTastic macro (but see post about this, below).
  • There are a Search & Replace and a Search & replace in hyperlinks macro in the current OneTastic set of macros, but I am unsure whether they will be backwards compatible for OneNote 2007.
  • Similarly, I suspect (though I am not sure) that there is (or will be) a OneTastic macro for WordCount also.
  • Most of the other PowerToys will probably have been replaced by a OneTastic macro, and these macros are currently under steady development/support.
  • The PowerToys are apparently no longer available (original website is defunct/scrubbed and there seem to be no Wayback or other public archives that have them).
  • The MLO tools are still available from the blog at http://manage-this.com - though the blog itself generally seems to have fallen into disuse a couple of years ago, apart from a more recent post (difficult to establish the date) giving the DROE Source Code (script for an interesting and potentially useful tool for a Daily Record Of Events, using AutoHotkey and Visual Basic).
