i've read elsewhere that Internet Explorer 8 will be supplied on a separate CD with every copy of the retail euro Win 7. making the situation all the more annoying and completely pointless.

also, when you think about it, MS can't provide installs or shortcuts to other browsers as there will be browsers that are neglected. these missing browser companies could then claim some kind of unfair anti-competitive blah blah. so the cycle begins all over again.

right, it was probably just a matter of time then. i must have been lucky up until this point.
Glad to hear someone's lucky, I've been sending you upwards of 50 emails a day and never had a single response!

Living Room / google mail spam crazy
« Last post by nudone on June 12, 2009, 03:35 PM »
anyone else getting loads of fake "cannot be delivered" spam in their gmail account?

everytime i check my mail (about every ten minutes) there's about 50 new spam messages - all claiming to be undelivered emails.

they're all in the spam folder, so no big deal. it's just a bit alarming that they've appeared out of nowhere.

Also, nudone: It seems that in UAC-enabled OSes, ie. W7 and Vista, non-privileged programs can not send Windows messages to privileged programs. I'm not sure if you can, or if it's sane at all to set FARR to run privileged, but if you did that, it probably could communicate with Everything.

i can confirm that running FARR "as administrator" allows the Everything plugin to work correctly. So, i'll probably just use this method.

thanks.

Living Room / Re: What's your favorite drink?
« Last post by nudone on June 12, 2009, 03:25 AM »
Monster Ripper energy drink (with the yellow M). also known as Monster M-80 in the US. though, as i said to mouser, i think it's rotting my mouth away.
1335
thanks, i'll also try the Selectively disable UAC for your trusted Vista applications later. got to go out now.
1336
okay, here's the method to run any program that usually requires UAC activation at startup.

http://blogs.techrep...ow-on-windows/?p=616

to make Everything work with this method you also require the "-startup" switch in the path for Everything.

(does that make any kind of sense?)

heheh. it's nice that it does tell you that something is wrong.

looks like i'll just have to keep Everything and FARR separate. not a real problem i must say.
1337
right, must the service thing then.

i'll dig out the method it requires and post back.
1338
i'm late to the party on this one. i didn't realise there was a FARR plugin for everything (fantastic idea, akx).

just wondering if i'm doing something wrong...

i use Everything under Vista with UAC turned on, which requires the run as a service trick to get Everything to load at startup.

here's a screengrab of what i mean:

snap019.jpg

as you can see, if i type "ev..." i don't actually get a list of results matching the search term. (there are several "new folders" on my drive.)

do i need to configure the plugin somehow.

anyone have an idea?

edit:
Everything is constantly running on my machine by the way, but it looks like the FARR plugin can't see it.

aha, i was probably thinking more of lanux128's suggestion rather than nosh's. i've used Dshutdown - i didn't realise it did pixel monitoring - but it can't be specified? how does that work then?

i'm pretty sure this program exists. sorry, can't say more but i'm confident it's been mentioned on this forum a while ago.

someone is bound to remember it.

good point, Deozaan. i never thought about where Cody should go - it could be very complicated.

maybe Cody could just attend the DC member gatherings when they take place - or, at least, those events would have to take priority for Cody's attention - perhaps.

how about sending the baby cody around the world to visit all the DC members
Yes we actually could do that -- we could even use the ToyVoyagers thing to help facilitate it.
i must have been thinking of that toyvoyagers. i knew i'd seen something like it somewhere.

ooh, that's nicely done. all the right features are there. i'm impressed.

how about sending the baby cody around the world to visit all the DC members - each member taking a photo of baby cody at their location. sightseeing or getting into an adventure or something.

they then post baby cody onto another DC member until he makes his way home to mouser.

if i press the "copy or print" link it shows a new window which i can copy out of perfectly.

try:
1. using a different browser
2. pasting into a different text editor.
you're right. sorry, i never thought to check browsers. i'll try and figure out why maxthon isn't working with it.
1349
i was trying to copy an ahk script that czb created and posted on the forum here (4th post down): https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=12935.0

that is, copy and then paste it into blank document. but no matter which editor i use to paste the code into, it does it as one long single line rather than the formatting seen in the code box. (it doesn't make any difference about the settings of word wrap in the editor - the formatting is still wrong.) clicking on the "copy or print" link above the code box doesn't retain the formatting either when copying from the new page that opens.

i've solved the problem by "quoting" the code box in a reply post preview and then simply copying the script from there - this provides the correct formatting when pasting into a blank document.

this seems a strange process, so i'm assuming i'm doing something wrong. surely, you can copy from the code boxes and the formatting stays intact?

i probably should have mentioned that i haven't tried them.. :)

heheh.

well, maybe they could, at least, serve as a starting point. i'll try and look through the scripts to see if it makes any sense to me.
