@f0dder: nope, not on Vista64. From the testimonials on this thread, I think it must be related to some software sri has running.
1177
That sounds very much like a "report".
I use XYplorer for this kind of stuff, but I guess other File Explorers can do that, and possiby there even is dedicated software for this task.

in Opera at the moment,
Win+S selects the "Greetings tomos" text in top-left of page :)
Which would be pretty much the same as pressing 's' only ;) ('s' and 'w' cycle the selection on links of the page)

Find And Run Robot / Re: Updates: Patches?
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 21, 2008, 10:52 AM »
I think that'd create extra problems: if someone doesn't download every single version, that person would have to download a few patches, complicating the instalation process.
Also, only a few people download every version, it doesn't compare to the number of people who download the software for the first time ;) (at least, that's what I think! :D)
It would make it easier for us, the ones who download it on every version, but I don't really care for a few MBs a day, and I think it wouldn't compensate the hassle it'd be for mouser to create several packages, etc.

GOE 2007 Challenge Downloads / Re: Evaluweight - GOE Challenge 2007 Entry
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 21, 2008, 09:32 AM »
A month or two after downloading, Symantec Endpoint protection notified me that my version contained W32.SillyDC Trojan. Heads up.
Jenxo: It most certainly didn't just "appear" out of nothing ;)
[rant] It's the usual false positives, originated by the use of autohotkey for programming the applications, combined with the antivirus developers being idiots. Please take the antivirus' advices with a grain of salt, recently more and more virus-free applications are being flagged by idiotic antiviruses  >:( >:( [/rant]

That's the stupid part, Tom.. It doesn't. The "sleep" is a synonym for "standby" in winXP, that's why I say it doesn't make much sense.
Also, when you change from "sleep" to "shutdown", you can't choose "hibernate".. lol

I wouldn't choose "hibernate" anyways, everytime I tried it in XP, something went wrong :) Oh, and writing 2GB of used RAM to disk also would take a while, I suppose :)

Here's an interesting article, written in 2006 by a guy who activelly worked in windows Vista.
It's interesting to see the whole process involved in making such a giant product, and how things sometimes don't come out the way they were expected.

To be honest, I actually like the feature mentioned in the article (it's Vista's shutdown button), except for the fact that it comes predifined to "sleep", which makes no sense. After changing it to "shutdown", I think it's a giant step better than XP's dialog.

Oops, sorry :)
You couldn't have known, the original thread ended prior to you joining DC ;)
Here's the link for the thread I mentioned: FARR version 2 - discuss the best way to handle 'actions'.
1184
herojoker:
That is VERY along the lines discussed in previous requests, specifically for "actions" to be added to farr.
This probably isn't the right topic to discuss it (previous talks quicky rose to a few pages of posts), maybe we should start a new thread or continue at the last ones.
1185
Oh, I supposed it was installed at your computer, or at your workplace.
If it isn't at any of those, could it be at the ISP level? Now that'd be surprising  :-\

[edit] If you can't download skrommel's apps, you can always press the green "h" to download the code, then go to autohotkey.com, install it, and double-click the code you downloaded, it'll run as if it was an executable :) [/edit]

Hello doonyakka!
And welcome to DC. :D

Could you be more specific about the software you're trying to download? Which program is it?
From the description of the throjan, that sounds like one more of those false positives on autohotkey, the language used to build some of the software on this site :(

Sorry for digging up an old topic.

I just bumped into this, and thought I'd see how things have changed in one year.
Here's the way DonationCoder is rated now:

Just compare it to the way it was one year ago:

Now I think they just calculate random numbers, based on the count of 'c' characters in the page's code  :tellme:

[edit] Ok, it's confirmed, it just gives a random number, based on the text on the page. I just tried getting the values of my idiotic page, and then changing "text" to "test", and the values changed dramaticly after the one-letter change..  ;D ;D [/edit]

Since this is a related matter, here's what happens when I type a non-existing file path:

housetier: the trick is that if you use that 'username+something' scheme, the mail gets in your inbox anyway. So, you can check the "from" field, and see which of the sites you registered at are sending you spam :)

Carol: I think mouser was asking if the army already had recursive acronyms, before the mid-eighties, not just regular acronyms.

PS: SNAFU is cool, I didn't know that one :D

Actually, you both are right. :)
From the wikipedia entry,
PHP (a recursive acronym for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor and the letters used to stand for 'Personal Home Page tools')
"Personal Home Page" was the previous definition, that was later changed to the recursive acronym.

PS: I wonder why all of my latest posts have been made on offtopic discussions.. lol

And for university times: because of some admin's idea to take off privileges from ANYONE (even IT students), it was impossible to do what you advice.

Well.. Judging from me and my colleagues (I'm in Computer Science), I think those are exactly the ones that pose more danger to the computers :) [/offtopic]

[offtopic] I am pretty sure there's a topic here on DC with a few text editors similar to the one 40hz just posted, I just can't find the topic :( [/offtopic]

That explains it! You shouldn't use low quality software :P

Just out of curiosity, are you running vista? :)

but since colon requires pressing the Shift key, i'd just go with the semi-colon.
The semi-colon also involves shift key here :P hihi

General Software Discussion / Re: Touch screen software for Windows XP?
« Last post by jgpaiva on July 17, 2008, 06:11 AM »
AFAIK, a regular computer screen can't identify the touch of fingers on the screen, so this is not possible to acomplish through software.

I think that using the space as separator can be annoying if you have a town with a space in its name :)
Why don't you use the collon instead? (':')

[edit] lanux: you left the icon path there, but it isn't included in the default install of farr. I also found out that using an alias with a non-existing icon results in strange happenings :) [/edit]
