is https access of the forum working now?
It does seem to work a lot better now! I'll keep testing for a short while...

Edit: HTTPS does seem to work OK now, tested on Windows (FireFox and Edge), Android Phone (FireFox) (tablet is on the charger, I'll test that later), and iPhone (iOS8 Safari).

Now switched to Windows, and Firefox on Windows only started behaving somewhat decent after disabling Avast WebShield HTTPS scanning, as it inserts a fake root certificate, probably unacceptable to Mozilla.

The Donationcoder.com StartCom SSL certificate does support both SHA256 and SHA1 encryption, and SHA1 (with expiration after January 1st 2016) is declared unsafe by Google (first) and Mozilla (hours later), even though it should be accepted with expiration date until January 1st 2017 :'( (See SHA1 Deprecation)

Another funny fact:
The recent list shows the original title of the thread, instead of the title (subject) of the last post of the thread (testing this now by inserting 'your' in the subject)

Edit: Confirmed.

NB Could the http/https issue be a webserver setting? All links, like the Reply button switch over to http when startjng off on https.

Advantage to me is that https refreshes the page when backing out a thread to the Recent list :-[ Very useful when on a tablet.

Hm, have to take back some of my words:
Funny fact: When accessing the forum using https, the recent post links at the bottom connect over http :o (https wasn't available/tested in the trial conversion)

Looking good so far, though Firefox for Android doesn't like the https site much yet, but other browsers seem to work fine.

General Software Discussion / Re: 'create Restore Point' question
« Last post by Ath on August 30, 2015, 05:03 AM »
Sounds like some of you guys really think I should pull my CPU cooling fan & fins and give them a fresh cleaning & silvering, so I'm thinking about it.
Yup, and, like shades said, be sure to apply the silvering paste very thin, as it is only needed to flatten out any air-pits and minor irregularities in the contact surface between the cpu and the cooler.
In the most optimum case the surface-contact should really be metal on metal, as the paste can work as heat-insulation when applied too thick!

You might need to check if the cooler is properly mounted on the cpu, if it's not firmly and exactly mounted on top then it won't cool good enough.

Now I come back to JSON
That should be JBODw as 4wd said, JSONw is totally unrelated to harddrive/NAS technology. (And mixing & mingling threads is a real no-no :()

The update from Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 are free for the lifetime of the system, new systems will need a normal, bought, license. They will be included with new PC's like Win7/Win8.1 have been, but then they are not, and have never been, free! There will also be Systembuilder licenses for the home-building croud, just like previous Windows versions had.

Maybe Lintalist (Announcement on DC) is worth investigating for those searching for a FOSS tool?

Wait for the migration to smf 2.0, planned for September 1st, then it might also get Tapatalk support added/enabled (though that's not finally decided yet), so you/we won't need to write a html parser .

Or put the current number of posts in your profile summary, in the forum-header? Like the number of PM's in your inbox.

Aha, the FlightSim context was missing from your OP, but I still wouldn't have known about the if/els structures :-[
Could have made an assumption, knowing that you're a 'flight-sim guy', but you know what they say about any assumption...  ;D

Doesn't your story just confirm that Goldmine CRM isn't yet tested/updated for Windows 10? That should have probably been your first investigation, before taking the deep-dive into Win10...

For now I'd suggest to revert to your previous Windows (8.1), and wait for an official update of Goldmine to get Win10 compatiblity; the free upgrade to Win10 is available up-until July 2016

XML does not have any 'programming logic' by itself; as Shades already suggests, an XML processing-tool, like XSLT is required.

I've been enormously helped in the past by the XSLT processing features of NetBeans IDE  as it has both code-completion and ofc. syntax-highlighting.

Do you really need 3 threads in this forumsection to ask 3 times the same question? :(

Oh, and the other 2 already have been answered properly, too...

it was (is!) very difficult for him to explain what the program actually does. His homepage: http://spli-stuff.blogspot.co.uk/
All I can find on that site is a cr#$@load of videos. Not even a simple feature-list :o
I'm also in that camp of ppl that shy away "if there's no text describing what it does, it must be unworthy looking any further"

Are the Acer power-management tools/drivers/add-ons installed? They caused similar behavior on a slow Acer laptop I serviced few weeks ago, where this happened when the Acer-'enhanced' power-setting was enabled. Switching to a standard power-scheme fixed it for me.

Does anyone have even 1 useful/compelling argument for using a non-free zip-file 'manager'? As I have been unable to detect one. (this isn't sarcastic!)
Actually, yes. WinRar. If you're into the rar-format and it's advantages, that is.
Well, that's the format I avoid using, as I have to distribute stuff to some that are limited to Windows' builtin unzipper .
And for all others I'm using 7-zip as it does pack dense enough and in package-types (tar.gz, 7z, zip) that can be unpacked on HP-UX and Linux.
The only reason for rar would be the error-correction options, but most material I pack is reproducible, so recovery isn't a requirement per-sè.
And winrar has a dumb-founded unpack dialog that lets novice-users easily make wrong choices >:( but I wasn't asking for that ;D
