DC Gamer Club / Re: Free Game on Humble Store

After watching gameplay, I wasn't prepared to even spend $1 on a steam key.  Maybe it gets more interesting.  But the Let's Play on Twitch was more boring than watching paint dry.

So this is strange.  Jalopy is free on Humble Bundle for the next couple of days (1day 22hrs at this point).  When you redeem, you get access to the DRM free download.  But you have to pay $1 to get the steam key.

fSekrit / Re: FSekrit 1.40 Error Saving File

Yeah, I have it intermittently too; I just figure it's because I use fsekrit in a dropbox folder.  As that accesses the files to sync/check them, I could see there being an access problems.

I did check and do see some stuff there, but not all.  I'm not sure what they use to determine, as some Stripe purchases from my local coffee shop are there, but not all Stripe purchases.  It seems that they'd have to get permission for this, but I checked in my privacy settings and didn't see anything that would apply.  And I don't see how this is useful for the consumer, as there's no search for your purchases.

General Software Discussion / Re: WinPatrol appears dead
« Last post by wraith808 on May 18, 2019, 01:37 PM »
It's still working well for me; I get alerts for the things that I need to get alerts for, so I hadn't noticed about the site.  PLUS information on the processes still works, and has appeared useful.  I know that he'd (Rui?  The guy that bought them) had been working on the ransomware protection more than WinPatrol, but it had never really bothered me, as I have it set up to block everything unless I OK it.  In fact, I just got an update right before this as Onedrive set up an update to start after reboot.

As far as the site, I'd try to contact him if worried before pronouncing it dead.  Not sure why yours would have stopped giving alerts; are you sure it's running?

Anyone else catch a whiff of canned pork-product here?

Maybe.  Not sure considering other factors.

Developer's Corner / Introducing GitHub Package Registry

https://github.blog/...ub-package-registry/

GitHub Package Registry provides fast, reliable downloads backed by GitHub’s global CDN. And it supports familiar package management tools: JavaScript (npm), Java (Maven), Ruby (RubyGems), .NET (NuGet), and Docker images, with more to come.

Looks like an interesting proposal.  Signed up for the waitlist for the beta.

I'd second Deo's recommendation of Trello, though I actually use something else to keep track of things in sync with my other work- Notion.   It has a lot of features that let me get a great bang for my buck and the ability to expand it with templates and integrates with the browser for clipping and imports Evernote.

They have a free version, but I pay for it so that I don't have to worry about limits and to support the platform, though I'm in no danger of hitting the limits as they're pretty generous. You can see the pricing at https://www.notion.so/pricing.

Is this true for anybody else?

It is for me on DuckDuckGo.

Me too.  So maybe that's just doing a search?

Living Room / Re: Need Video Doorbell Options
« Last post by wraith808 on May 09, 2019, 06:09 PM »
Understood... I've heard good things about the Ring devices (that's the one with the 6 month battery IIRC), and they will push the video to/through Alexa or dump it on an onboard SSD.

I thought all of the ring devices had to be hooked up to the power line.  I'll have to take another look!

We use Ring at our home. The doorbell camera comes in two versions. One uses the doorbell’s transformer power, the other is strictly battery powered.

It works with your existing doorbells and it’s been very reliable. Decent range of user selectable settings. Decent latency for a web type surveillance cam too. Has an optional swarm feature that allows you to receive updates about alerts issued by other Ring users in your area.

Thanks for that info!  And good to see you around, stranger!  Hope to see you more, and that everything is going well with you!

If only they'd figure out what was wrong on my middle click on browser tabs, I'd use it full-time.

Just got one off Friendica that I tried.  Very good!

Instant Pot Lemon Chicken

This simple recipe is quick and delicious. The chicken comes out juicy and tender every time.
photo from a batch that just came out of our oven.

Ingredients

➤ 2 pounds of organic drumsticks (or wings)
➤ lemons (for juicing)
➤ avocado oil spray
➤ garlic powder
➤ salt
➤ pepper
➤ dried parsley

Instructions

➤ spray Instant Pot with avocado oil
➤ put raw chicken into Instant Pot
➤ sprinkle chicken liberally with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and dried parsley
➤ pour in one cup of lemon juice
➤ pressure cook on high manual 5 minutes
➤ preheat oven to 500 degrees
➤ manually depressurize Instant Pot
➤ remove chicken and place in single layer on oil sprayed cookie sheet
➤ bake for 5 minutes at 500 degrees or until golden brown
➤ while chicken is baking turn Instant Pot to saute and reduce left over sauce for a glaze
➤ pull chicken from oven, top with glaze, and serve

NOTE: I changed this up to use boneless chicken breasts that I cut in half, and reduced the lemon to 3/4 cup.

I think you have your answer as well as can be expected.  You get what you pay for.  Do you trust the manufacturer?  That's why I go with SanDisk and keep everything backed up too.

I don't know what would be good for use.  I purchased this one: https://smile.amazon.../product/B0758NHWS8/

If you get a high-speed SD card, it's pretty good.  I use one in my surface and XPS, as on both of those I can't upgrade the hard drive or it's the largest capacity.  I don't notice a difference in most day to day tasks.

General Software Discussion / Re: What Android Apps Do You Use?

I've never used it, but it looks interesting in concept.  Not sure seeing the comments about cloning an app if it requires multiple instances of apps and just partitions them into different user spaces.  I see a few others apps for the same thing; not really sure what the difference is, but would be interested in seeing others' responses to this query.

All you whiners. Just do it and keep it to yourself. No one really cares.

For instance no one cares that I am sticking with FF.

Isn't that the purpose of a forum?  :-\

Ghacks is a good site, but a bunch of people in the comments section there tend to be weirdly, toxically negative against all things Mozilla/Firefox.

Stay out of the comments.  Always stay out of the comments.  The reporting itself seems to be spot on, though, so I wouldn't hold it against ghacks.

I currently have the Sennheiser RS 185 RF Wireless Headphone System and a Blue Yeti.  The headphones are good enough to roam the entire house with the added benefit that I don't have to remember to mute when I walk away as the mic doesn't travel with me.  But it's good enough to be heard in my whole office even when I'm at one of my other computers or the whiteboard.

Wow, those look very nice! I wish I had $500 to spend on headphones and a microphone. :D

Maybe I'll go for one of the lower model Blue microphones, such as the Snowball iCE and just use my CozyPhones. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Keep them on camelcamel or something.  I paid a little over $180 for the headphones after waiting for a while and $120 for the mic.

Technically that's still 2 ports. It's just that the charging cable comes with a mini, 1-port USB hub for the dongle.

 :P

I also have the Logitech G930 headset. But it frequently disconnects and reconnects, even though the dongle is a mere 2-3 feet away, with an unobstructed line of sight. And every time it does that (which can be every few seconds), it seems to forget that the microphone should be muted while it's in the up position. And the battery has bit the dust, so I'm basically tethered to my desk anyway because it only lasts a minute or two when it's not plugged into the charging cable. And, like mouser said, the pleather earphone covers have been disintegrating for the past couple of years, covering the area around my ears, and my clothes and chair, in tiny black flakes.

I've never had that problem with disconnects.  I also replaced the cover- they have replacements on amazon really cheap as I found out, that work even better than the included padding.  The only reason that I changed was because of the fact that I wanted better fidelity for my headset.  I do miss the shortcuts on the headphones though, but the tradeoff is more than worth it.
