Using here 'Registry Key Jumper' - tool suggested by MilesAhead above.

An excellent tool that also I think is "sounds like what you want".

Also you can have a list of keys (that you can add) to quick acess.

I'm using TTM since some years ago without issues. It works very well and is useful if a user want try an app. for some days and after to revert the system. Also I use it even with TTFreeze on and none issues.

Using Win 7.

Never had such warning (Warning: selected invalid function), however.

HOW do you know is a software is perfect portable after install ?
I track their actions with Snapshot feature in 'System Explorer' - easy and quick to use.

For software installers I use 'ZSoft Uninstaller' (x32 installers only) and 'Soft Organizer' from ChemTable Software (x32 and x64 installers).

General Software Discussion / Re: Best (free?) Sandbox?
« on: July 11, 2013, 05:03 PM »
  ~ Freeware ~

Surfing:
- For surfing 'SecuBrowser' is an option [works with IE and Firefox only]. It is not so strong like SandboxIE, but does the work; I installed it in some friends PC's that had problems with some Ransomware and it handle with them well. I moved their sandboxed folder to a RamDisk with a junction in original folder, between others changes in default instalation.

Trying out programs:
-  Applications that don't need to reboot - 'Toolwiz Time Freeze' is an excellent choice.
-  Applications that need to reboot - 'Toolwiz Time Machine' is a very good way; it is stable and in a non-beta state now. It has also a Time Freeze feature.

Analyzing programs:
- Using 'System Explorer'; their snapshot feature is useful and does the work.

Anyway: If you buy SandboxIE you are doing a very good choice and purchase/acquisition indeed!

I'm not impressed, and will probably end up switching to Chrome some time in the next ~6 months. :-(

I switched to Maxthon; really nice browser.

General Software Discussion / Re: Redo Backup and Recovery
« on: May 11, 2013, 01:35 PM »
@ ewemoa, thanks a lot for the thread link! It clarify the issue.

Like said there "Previous versions of Redo did not write the MBR after a restore"; in fact it "completely overwrite your MBR and partition table using data from the backup image" and "ALWAYS written to the drive at the beginning of a restore".

So the MBR is always restored even with olders versions; no problems indeed.

Thanks again!

Also from 1.0.3:

Restore now overwrites MBR and partition table upon completion

Hi ewemoa, what that really means? I thought that when Redo restored a image it restored also MBR [useful if MBR was changed by some rootkit meanwhile].

General Software Discussion / Re: Go to the folder in the registry (key)

Nice to see it is like you need.

I would an utility to go directly to those keys.
Hi Contro, it seems that Eusing Free Registry Jump is suitable to your request.

It's a stand-alone tool.

General Software Discussion / Re: Software install monitor.
« on: December 22, 2011, 07:07 PM »
Successful real-time monitoring makes more sense, as long as it works.

In general it can't handle well when installer needs to reboot. One serious disadvantage with these real-time monitoring app..

Keep in mind that automated reversals can have "issues". Say a .dll was overwritten during the install to a newer version, then if it was not saved in a special hold area to come home ... you can not simply delete the new one.  What does Revo try to do ?

Here the fault is from the installer and/or their own uninstaller. Snapshots based uninstallers don't have any action to modified files - and don't should do that in fact (they aren't backup applications).
ZSoft Uninstaller and Total Uninstall authors always adviced to uninstall firstly using the owner uninstaller. Such step avoids annoyances.

One thing Revo suggests is to run the newly installed program for the first time while the tracking system is still active - not something normally done with snapshots - so it can track changes initially made by the software after installation.  I like that .

With snapshots based uninstallers is always highly recommended to do that also - the uninstall is then exhaustive.

Two tiny app. that work well with Windows Firewall Control Panel (Win 7), are Windows Firewall Control (Free and Paid) and Windows Firewall Notifier (Free). They deserve a try...

Unlike Windows 7 Firewall Control these app. are "GUI/frontend for the built-in firewall" in fact.

General Software Discussion / Re: The Cache?
« on: January 31, 2011, 06:17 PM »
You are right some backup software about, Bamse. Last acess disable related. Like to uncheck "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching" couldn't be good if the user needs to search for files very often. However I think that, in general, there hints could be good for the system performance.

MyDefrag about: their defaults scripts don't use the "LastAccessEnabled" action; users can do their own scripts with it though.

CleanMem cleans file cache system like CacheSet (by Systernal) does.

To disable 'Last Access' files feature could avoid many file accesses in System:

In command line:
fsutil behavior set disablelastaccess 1
OR set to 1 in Registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem -> NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate=1

15
It seems that the problem is with OEM encoding (and DOS...).

This info could be useful: http://stackoverflow...age-is-cmd-exe-using

16
Sorry but seems that I don't understand (the boxes that comes out are in screenshots).   ::)

What I do is (in .bat):
TestCmdLine.exe sike.exe "mçfilè.txt"

Output:
-[0]|2
-[1]|sike.exe
-[2]|mþfilÞ.txt

In start > run > cmd :
TestCmdLine.exe sike.exe "mçfilè.txt"

Output:
-[0]|2
-[1]|sike.exe
-[2]|mçfilè.txt

If this isn't what I should to do please give me an example (english isn't my native language....).   :stars:

17
As for the batch file, what kind of error do you get?

No error at all. It just doesn't copy to recycle bin only.

  • TestCmdLine

Bat file with:TestCmdLine.exe sike.exe "mçfilè.txt":

Bat file with:TestCmdLine.exe sike.exe "my.txt":

  • All-round

If I use a .bat file I need to use this to work well:

@echo off
for /f "tokens=2 delims=:" %%a in ('2^>nul chcp') do set cp=%%a
>nul 2>&1 chcp 1252

sike.exe "mçfilè.txt"
>nul 2>&1 chcp%cp%
exit

If I use only «sike.exe "mçfilè.txt"» it doesn't work.

Hope this help.

Hi MilesAhead,

FYI, it doesn't work if the filename has some uncommon characters, like: á - ô - ü

E.g.: "mçfilè.txt"

EDIT: if  use it in a .bat file doesn't work - if I use it in a command prompt no annoyances...

19
A very useful info, Nod5. Thanks for that.

General Software Discussion / Re: Anybody Know About DiskTune?
« on: May 06, 2010, 03:12 PM »
Yeah I understand your point indeed, sajman99, and whenever there are annoyances it's always good to have fixed updates. Maybe the developer doesn't know a needed speed improvement in their defrag yet...

General Software Discussion / Re: Anybody Know About DiskTune?
« on: May 06, 2010, 12:55 PM »
Since app. has no bugs and/or too many annoyances, it seems to me that there aren't reasons to do too much updates.

Puran Defrag e.g. is a very good defrag that no needs to be released always. To DiskTune is the same. I don't upgrade ever MyDefrag - even the oldest versions are reliable and effective.

22
There is very little reason to remove a few extra bytes, because of the increased risk.
I agree. E.g. to delete all .bak files could mess with your Office.

I use:

- To clean: 1. CleanAfterMe in a diary base (command line: CleanAfterMe.exe /clean CleanAfterMe.log, shortcut in quick launcher); 2. Eusing Windows Washer; 3. Eusing Registry Cleaner.
- To  track installations and uninstall: ZSoft Uninstaller, that does an excellent work.
- To search: RegScanner to registry; SearchMyFiles to files (both from NirSoft).

23
BulkFileChanger by NirSoft is useful and interesting also:

  • BulkFileChanger is a small utility that allows you to create files list from multiple folders, and then make some action on them - Modify their created/modified/accessed time, change their file attribute (Read Only, Hidden, System), run an executable with these files as parameter, and copy/cut paste into Explorer.

24
Similarly, System Explorer (found at Gizmo's site) looks like a useful Task Manager replacement. My biggest dislike so far is that I can't get its information window to stick, which is occasionally useful.

You can do:

View > Always on top
You need restart the application then.

System Explorer has a nice tray icon'tolltip.

I use Snapshot feature in System Explorer - System Snapshots for easy finding of system changes.

You can see several app. about in:
