Clipboard Help+Spell / Stripping to Text Format
« on: July 13, 2015, 03:18 PM »
Is it possible to strip text (e.g. copied from web page or MSW) so that all formatting is removed and it will paste as plain text?  I looked both in the CHS help and in other comments here and didn't see anything directly addressing this issue.

Please tell me when I'm overwhelming with specific desires and I'll back off.

Sounds pretty good to me.

It's not essential to me, but allowing multiple passes through the explicit stack would also be desirable.

Reminder:  my goal is to be able just to paste with one key(combination) press per clip.

Extending that functionality would be great.
Why it's currently less than optimal is that it takes two steps for every entry, vs one step as I've experienced it.

Suggestion:
Since you've got the QuickPaste group on the left, I'd propose having it possible to put things in the quickpaste group by dragging or clicking,  Then one could order the quickpaste group as one wants and paste LIFO or FIFO.

I could get partway there by putting a number in ordering and then limiting what showed in QP to those clips with an order number.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Pasting From Stack - Questions
« on: July 13, 2015, 08:16 AM »
I'm still trying to make pasting from a stack as efficient and rapid as possible because I do it frequently.  I'm using as a standard what I was able to do in my former clipboard helper because it minimized the keystrokes necessary to paste a longer list of clips.

There I was able to
  •   Select a group of clips by highlighting them in the main windows
  •   Select whether I wanted FIFO or LIFO
  •   Select (optional) whether I wanted the cycle through the stack once or multiple times (I didn't use that often) - default was once-through

Once I'd selected those it was just a matter of repeatedly pressing Ctrl-V to paste the sequence of clips.

How close to this is it possible to come in CHS?

Clipboard Help+Spell / Update Comment on TechSupportAlert
« on: July 12, 2015, 06:53 AM »
One of my favorite sites for freeware is TechsupportAlert.com.  Today I posted this comment updating their 2013 review that noted as a deficiency the lack of image support.

Clipboard Help+Spell (CHS) has been markedly improved since the 2013 review date.  Now it's at v2.29 and HAS good image capability.  It can be used very simply or can perform complex useful feats with a reasonable amount of extra time spent learning its features.  One of its many excellent features is the ability to clean up clips in almost any ways imaginable:  removing extra lines; removing unwanted characters at the beginning of lines; find and replace; on and on.

I'm a longtime Clipmate user, one who never grudged paying for it because I used it so much, but CHS converted me - and inspired me to make a contribution to the totally non-profit, non-adware, DonationCoder(DC) site that uses only Google-analytics as a tracker for page views.  Note that Mouser, the creator of CHS has several other excellent programs on DC.  There are programs by other authors as well.

Yes, I'm attempting to use the "stack" feature to be able to paste a series of clips that I may not have clipped in the desired sequence.  I typically use this for form-filling in databases or web pages (which of course are database entry tools)..

Thanks.  Understanding the logic helps.

I got part of the way towards being able to make the QP group serve in the way I want.  I displayed the "ordering" column and then added SQL so that only items that had a number in "ordering" would display.   Great.
I then sorted the ordering (tried it in both QP and "new" windows and set the marker on the first.

Result:
The first item pasted fine.
The next in the QP group did not paste.  Rather the next clip ID pasted - no surprise, but not what I'd hoped.

Would it be possible to paste using the sequence displayed in the display grid rather than the clip ID?

It would also be nice to have a toggle to clear ordering so one easily could start afresh.

Along with that if one could Shift-click or some such so that the next order in sequence was applied that would be great.

I Understand that I'm pushing for my idea, which may not be what others would want.

OK.  Again, thanks!

Clipboard Help+Spell / Quick Paste Question and Suggestions
« on: July 11, 2015, 10:39 AM »
Question
What is the function of the quickpaste group in the navigation pane?  It seems as though it duplicates what's in the "new" clipboard without any difference.  In particular, deleting clips in QP deletes them in the main clipboard, which doesn't seem logical.  I'd think that it would be a location to identify and order clips that may be pasted in order.

Suggestion 1 - Following from above
Revise quickpaste so that one can add and delete clips here without deleting from the main clipboard.

Suggestion 2 - Allow identifying clips in main clipboard to be put in QP group en masse

Suggestion 3 - Make it possible to paste starting from top or bottom of clips in QP group

Suggestion 4 - Make it possible to cycle through repeatedly.

Suggestion 5 - Provide a toggle to automatically replicate new clips from main clipboard or not to QP group

Clipboard Help+Spell / Paste Directly from CHS Main Window
« on: July 11, 2015, 10:26 AM »
Is it possible to select an item in the Main Window and paste directly?  That would seem to be a natural option, but I couldn't find it.

I realize it's possible to copy an item to the clipboard and then paste it, but that's a two-step process.

12
I believe CHS (2.29.0) has a minor, but annoying bug.

One thing I typically like to do is remove all blank lines from a clip.  I found that "Trimming and Wrapping"  with "extra lines" and "even between par" does exactly what I want - hooray.
I see in the preview that it looks the way I want and click accept.
I then immediately use Ctrl-Alt-Q to bring up the dialog and paste that item.  It pastes in the original form rather than in the form with line breaks removed.  Bad

If, however, I copy something else into the clipboard between cleaning up my text then what pastes is cleaned up.

BTW - Clipmate has long been my invaluable assistant, but so far (first day) it appears Mouser has performed his usual magic with CHS.  It caused me to donate again.

Tried it this morning after reading the above descriptions.  It is indeed a fine interface.  In particular I like the simple filtering tools you've built in that make narrowing easy and fast.  I've replace Search Everything with MasterSeeker thanks to the interface/capabilities.

A welcome addition would be the ability to export the found set to a text file so that one can work with the results.  I'd have a toggle between full path and file/folder name only.

14
I was going to give the free version a try, but Web of Trust gave the site a bad (2/5) rating, with comments indicating malware.  Does anyone have information?

I suggest that you take a look at an online solution.  I serve on the board of a small nonprofit and did a search for them to address what sounds like similar problems.  I was quite impressed with Zoho's CRM solution.  They haven't yet chosen to put it into play so I cannot testify to how well it works in practice, but my test drive (free) impressed me.  It's free for three users and $12/user/month above that:  ZohoCRM Pricing.

More on converting to Excel Timestamp.
I found, somewhat to my embarrassment, that AM/PM and the fact that noon is labeled as 12:00PM not 00:00 PM exported info fouled up my prior Excel timestamp.  The following does work (I know it's ugly, but it's necessary), assuming that the exported timestamp is in A4.

=DATE(LEFT(A4,4),MID(A4,6,2),MID(A4,9,2))+ TIME( IF( AND(RIGHT(A4,2)="PM",VALUE(MID(A4,14,2))<12),MID(A4,14,2)+12,MID(A4,14,2) ),  MID(A4,17,2),MID(A4,20,2))

It would be MUCH cleaner to export the time in military (24 hour) units.

Suggestion for others who want to import this to a database.  I'm adopting a convention that I'll put my "category" at the beginning followed by a "-"  That way I can easily parse the category in Excel.

e.g
Soccer - Watch Arsenal go down to Manu

What a great use of a Saturday night (for me)!
Yes, it works splendidly.

For documentation purposes here's the formula that produces a timestamp, assuming that the date output field is in A1

=DATE(LEFT(A1,4),MID(A1,6,2),MID(A1,9,2))+ TIME(MID(A1,14,2),MID(A1,17,2),MID(A1,20,2))

Many thanks indeed.

No line breaks please, one line per record
I think a header line would be nice although my memory is that most csv and tab outputs don't have one.

You're amazing - it's Saturday night and you should be out carousing.

Sure.
You might have to help some people with the documentation on how to make the conversion.

If you can provide an output in CSV or Tab form that gives:
Year (4 digit)
Month
Day
Hour
Minute
Second

then it's easy to use the Date & Time formulas to create the timestamp in Excel.

Thanks for the quick response and willingness to try and push it further.

The date stamp algorithim in Excel is the days since January 1st, 1900 + Military Hours/24

e.g.  40198.5291666667  is 1/20/2010  12:42:00 PM

Like most here I was most impressed by what I saw, but won't be using it till I have the ability to export readily in either CSV or Tab format, ready for analysis in a spreadsheet or DB.  My quick review didn't show those capabilities - apologies if I missed them.  My suggestions specifically:
- Export option in CSV and/or Tab format - single line to allow importing each record
- Timestamp output option compatible with spreadsheet (Excel) import

Enhancements I'd love, but not as important
- A project field - with pull-down and ready editing - with default persistence of last project

DcUpdater / Re: Dcuppdater.exe crashes multiple times daily in W7...
« on: December 09, 2009, 09:09 AM »
I just discovered the same problem on my W7 machine.  It works if I start it individually and then use it, but I'm getting the same multiple crash warning that forces my "reliability" index to 1.

I had the same problem and had to unininstall and reinstall to get it to work.

It made me realize how much I depend on it.  Thanks again Mouser!
