Excellent, thank, I didn't think of that

I run FARR inside a Dropbox folder so I need to close FARR manually before shutting down to give Dropbox enough time to sync the ini files.  So I wrote a batch script to close a few program including FARR via the taskkill /im command.  But I can't seems to close FARR unless I use the /f switch.  Why is that?  Admittedly, I am just lazy, I could got to the system tray and do the right click and Exit, but I would still like to know.  And I don't want to use the /f because settings are  not saved this way and could result in data corruption.

I would like to be able to enter numbers via the number pad and use the Ctrl/Alt/Ctrl+Alt number pad combo to launch actual items in the search list.
Or even launch items with the number row, and the ones with modifiers work with the number pad.  Or vice versa.

There is a program called Listary at this linke.  It has the ability to provide a search box inside Explorer windows and Save/Open dialog boxes.  It would be nice if FARR can that kind of integration too.
So basically, when inside an Open/Save dialog box, you can call up a stripped down version of FARR so search for files and folders, which I guess should not be limited to what is indicated by what is set in Search Folders.

I have UAC turned off already.  And even with the Admin switch turned on, FARR still doesn't save settings.  I'm considering wiping the folder and reinstall FARR without my old ini files.

Update: I did fresh install of FARR and everything is fine now.  Maybe it was just a corrupted file somewhere.

thanks for all the help.

I went through my whole C drive with FARR to see if there are any other FindAndRunRobot.ini files, and I can't find any other apart from the one in my FARR directory.

Ran FARR form a folder on the desktop.  Sam problem, refuse to save settings.
By the way, how many people are actually having this problem?  There aren't a lot of people in this conversation.

I just tried that, it didn't work for me.  those three lines go in ConfigDir.ini right?  I don't have FARR installed in Program Files either.

I just tried what you suggested, and my settings are still not being saved.
Should keeps the "CONFIGDIR = ." line next to "portable=true" line?
My FARR directory is in a Drobox forlder, so there shouldn't be any permission issues.  I run quite a few portable apps from Dropbox without issues, even the ones that wouldn't not run form a ProgramFiles directory.

My mistake.  When I said config.ini, i ment ConfigDir.ini.  I have the CONFIGDIR = . line un-commented.
where do i find this portable flag, it's not in FindAndRunRobot.ini from what I can tell.
Also, according to the properties page of FindAndRunRobot.ini, it has not been modified or accessed since I last udated.
I've also searched through my computer fo any other FindAndRunRobot.ini files that the program could be using, and found none, save for the one in my FARR directory.

I have my config.ini file set to set all settings in the FARR directory, but none of my settings are being save.  Not the search folders list, I had to go into the ini file to manually change it.  Also, There is BackupIni folder that hold multiple copies of identical files (with different version names of course).  My FARR directory is not in %programfiles%, so there shouldn't be any permission issues from Windows 7 (32bit version).

BrowserTraySwitch / customize default browser
« on: November 21, 2010, 07:16 PM »
I love the auto-detect feature, but I use Firefox Portable as my default browser.  Can I still specify the path of the browser I want to set as my default?
I will probably work if I edit the config file, but that sounds like a lot of places to edit in the file.

thanks

Find And Run Robot / Re: FARR V2 core alias tables
« on: November 20, 2010, 05:02 PM »
Has the addnote(s) and viewnote(s) aliases been removed?  Nothing comes up.
It would be great if the shopping aliases are editable, since not everyone lives in the U.S.
I love the igo alias, so handy, but it would be even better if it would move the window to the left margin of the screen by it self on top of auto-expand the window (move the FARR window back to where it was when you clear the search box).

Just some possible suggestions.

Find And Run Robot / help with FARR alias
« on: November 20, 2010, 12:24 AM »
Could someone teach me how to sue the built-in www alias for FARR?  I can't figure it out.  I thought it's used to launch websites, but guess not.
Even better, if there is an alias explainaiton list for FARR somewhere that would be even better.

thanks

Sorry for the late reply.  I sort of fiddled around with the code a bit.  I found that if i comment out the lines with oldtop, the issue seem to disappear, I'm not sure yet I need to test more.  So, I'm curious as to who the if statements with oldtop in them control.  While I'm at it, what does the i statements with wintop control?  I have not touch the wintop variable yet, but everything with oldtop has been commented out.

I can send you my system stats, but I'm not sure what servieces to use to get those stats.

Ok, I think this might be a minor bug,  but when I open the Options in Firefox, the while screen dims.  I can't seem to find other programs that has the same effect.  Just the options dialog for firefox.
Oh, and I think I noticed this from the last version but forgot to mention it, when the desktop is in focus, the taskbar becomes transparent or vanishes to be more accurate a sno mouse clicks get registered.

I feel I'm being picky, but for some reason, once the script starts, I can't minimize by clicking the taskbar icon any more.  I think the focus is being stolen before it cold minimize.
Sorry for being so troublesome.

thanks for the quick reply.  I can turn it on and off with hotkeys now, but it doesn't light up the active window, it just darkens the screen.

So I commented out Goto,LOOP, which I think there is only one in the script.  When I start it, the screen just flashes once and nothing happens.

But wouldn't that disable the loop.  And from what I can tell, that LOOP is the portion that re draws everything.

I was wondering how i would be able to enable and disable Ghoster if  hotkeys.

I downloaded the ahk script, and added the hotkey commands:

#a:: Goto, START
#s:: Goto, EXIT

but they only work once for some reason.  I can enable and disable, once, before they stopped working, unless I reload the script.
I even tried using Goto, DESTROY instead of EXIt

It's as if once the gui is destroyed, it can't start up properly again.  I really onfused.

some help would be great, thanks.

PS: Actually, I think some people might like it if the author would add the enable/disable function, so one can put this program in the startup folder and toggle it on and off

I would like the ability to have more control over what gets added to the launch history list.  Say don't ad any file from a specific dir and its subdirs
Also, the %APPDRIVE% variable doesn't seem to valid in the External Tools section.

thanks
