Post New Requests Here / BETTER Spotify Playlist Editor
« on: March 31, 2022, 07:55 AM »
Hello all.  Long time member and dedicated lurker here.

I have a request.  Every Spotify playlist editor doesn't edit the liked songs playlist, and cannot sort by genre. I have a huge liked songs playlist upwards of 800 songs. For my family and I, music is life, therapy and more. I'll donate to a person that can do this.

  • I'm looking for an editor that can:
  • Edit the "Liked Songs" playlist
  • Sort by Genre
  • Allows multiple select to move a lot of songs at once to a new playlist

I'm trying to sort them into Genre playlists, for example R&B, Hip-Hip, Rap, Blues, Rock, Punk Etc. (Don't hate me I'm a 60's child)

It can be web based, I can host it, or native Windows or multi-platform (JAVA Etc)

ANYTHING.  Please?  It's utterly ridiculous that no one has done this yet.

Thank you, have a nice day and please drive through.

Hello.  I have an Alienware Aurora R4.  I have had no troubles with it, I love it actually. However, this morning when I started my computer the Alienware Command Center would not run. There is an error with d3d9.dll, same error for the thermal controller when I run it alone. This software is essential to control the fans, vents and lights. I am in serious need of help.

I have tried:

Repair install

Uninstall/Reinstall

Ran the .netFX repair tool from Microsoft

Tried to update DirectX

Tried compatibility mode with Windows 7 (I am running Windows 10)

Tried running all executables in the directory as admin

Ran DISM and system file checker

Ran DXDiag

No errors were found with any of the tools I ran. I am at the end of my knowledge.  What else can I do to troubleshoot?  I cannot seem to find the dmp files to examine them, but I do have the event logs.

Living Room / GoFundMe For A Lurker's Son
« on: March 04, 2016, 12:00 PM »
Hello. My son has been accepted to IUP, into their prestigious music program. He is one of only 8 trumpets accepted. He wishes to be a music teacher, so he can share the happiness and fulfillment he received as a student. I am proud of him, and find this a noble pursuit.

The one piece of advice he was given by the professor at his audition was to "buy a professional grade trumpet". We have purchased his previous trumpets for a few hundred dollars off of eBay, when I was working.

I had surgery in January, and have been unable to work since then.  My wife is holding two jobs to make ends meet, but there isn't a lot left over.

We have started a "GoFundMe", in the hopes of raising money to help us purchase a professional trumpet for him.  We know nothing of trumpets, but he has the advice of his teachers, the professor at IUP, and is using his knowledge of trumpets. He is not greedy, and knows the value of a dollar, and status symbols mean nothing to him.  He just wants/needs an upgraded trumpet so he can do well at college in his chosen field.

Any donation is very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Post New Requests Here / Idea For A Reddit Reader
« on: June 29, 2015, 09:03 PM »
I am a fan of Reddit, but I am overwhelmed by it's horrible web interface. My idea: organize it in an interface similar to Windows File Explorer.  Reddit is the root, each sub-reddit is a folder in the tree, a directory, each post a file.

\Reddit
    \sub-reddit
         \post

The program (reader) could have a preview pane, like Explorer, for media such as photos and videos.  It would also have a "Favorites" or "Shortcuts" section for subscribed Reddits. Possibly even a download function, although that may be questionable.

Simple, clean, easy to navigate, with a nighttime theme of light text on a dark background, or just follow Windows.

I would sacrifice a beer to Dionysus for this.

General Software Discussion / Help With A Solution?
« on: October 25, 2012, 06:41 AM »
I have an issue that is beyond my batch script capabilities.  OS is Windows (hold the snark).  I have a folder structure like this:

I:\WELLS HARDRIVE
|-######(random numbered folder)
   |-######(random numbered folder)
Usually about 30-50 more sub folders, each of those folders containing TIF files with standardized pattern names. four leading digits, a six digit account number, an underscore, then 3 trailing digits. ##########_###.tif  These files, literally hundreds of thousands of them in 480 directories each with 30+ sub directories and over a thousand images in those directories, need to be moved to another directory down the tree.  The directories are already created and contain a 3 digit prefix (430) then the 6 digit account number found in the middle of the TIF file name.  So we have a file named 1230123456_789.tif, then the directory it needs to be moved to is I:\WELLS HARDRIVE\BSI\430123456. They are on a networked drive mapped in Windows to the I: drive. The directory they need to be moved to is:

I:\WELLS HARDRIVE
|-BSI
  |-430######

I need a batch way (file, program) to read the file names for that 6 digit account number, then copy or move those file to the corresponding location under BSI, into the corresponding numbered directory.  If not, I am going to be sitting here all day just searching *.tif and manually moving them...it'll take days if not a couple of weeks.

HELP?!

There is DC credits in it for anyone when I get paid on November 15th.

Did I mention I love you all?  :-*

Living Room / "Magic Pig Powder" May Heal My Wife
« on: August 14, 2012, 08:22 AM »
*TL;DR Alert* If you are one of today's society that cannot read, much less type an entire paragraph, hit your back button now.

My wife developed Cancer 2008. In November of 2008, I noticed a quarter sized bruise on her leg. By the time they removed the Sarcoma in February 2009, it had developed into an 8 pound tumor the size of a breadbox. 5 weeks after removal, they radiated the area. The space did not fill in, instead filling up with fluid and became painful, making it hard for her to walk.

On March 9th of this year (2012) the doctor went in and drained the large area, then put a wound vac on so that it would heal faster. The dressing and sponges (inside the wound) for a wound vac is required to be changed every 3 days. This should have been a same day surgery. We submitted for a take home pump to our insurance at 9:48am on Friday, by 5pm they still had not approved it, so my wife ended up staying in the hospital 4 extra days. During this time the dressing and sponges were not changed. On Monday, I finally called our insurance, 45 minutes later they "found" the paperwork, it took 18 minutes to get it approved after that. We went home Monday night. The nurse came to the house Tuesday and finally changed the dressing and sponges. When the nurse arrived, she pulled gloves out of her pocket, and did nothing to create a clean or sterile environment. Over the course of 7 visits, we had 5 different nurses, none of which even asked where the sink was to wash their hands. By the time I was finally home to see the vac changed, 2 weeks later, her wound had become infected.  The skin on the incision edges was black, necrotic, dead. There interior of the would was covered in a slimy grey goo, and the smell...it lingered in the entire house.  I asked the nurse if she thought that was alright, she actually said "It can be, due to the pump", I chased her out of our house.

My wife was admitted (each time is a 2 and a half hour drive for us) and they debrided the wound, re-installed the vac.  We hired a new nursing company to come to the home. My wife cam home 4 days later, the nurse was waiting for us.  She changed the vac and it seemed alright. 3 days later, the nurse came again, we opened the wound, the smell was there and the color had changed slightly. The nurse immediately called the doctor, and poof, we went back to Pittsburgh for a 3rd debridement. They decided to not continue the wound vac at that time.  By this time my wife is rarely awake, runnign 103 constant fever, pulse of 113-130 at all times.  When she is awake, she is screaming in pain. My wife has birthed 3 children, bitten through her tongue, had her collarbone broken, and been wrapped around a tree in a car accident. She has never screamed or cried out in pain.

We had her admitted to a skilled nursing facility for antibiotic therapy and wound care.  She was there for two months. I have been moist-to-dry packing the wound that long. She gradually improved with round the clock care, and was finally able to come home at the end of May 29. I packed the wound here at the house, twice a day, until July 18th at which point she went in for a skin graft.

The doctor had initially told us he would "roll" a piece of muscle into the open wound, the graft over it.  On the day of the surgery he announced that instead, he was going to take two prime rib sized chunks of muscle out of my wife's back, place them in the wound, then graft over those. He did so, leaving a 26cm (10 inch) incision down her back from shoulder to waist.

The graft failed after 96 hours. The flesh in the wound turned black and died. We think it was due to the fact that the doctor ordered the catheter removed to early, and since my wife was bedridden, the nurses had to roll her and move her a lot so she could use the restroom.  Re-attaching veins is delicate work, and they failed.

The graft was removed, we were sent home, back to step 1 with the addition of a 10 inch wound on her back and two donor site wounds on her leg. The liquid stitches failed on her back wound, it opened and became infected.  Back to the hospital again.  This time they power washed the wound with antibiotic solution, then used stress sutures to close it.  It has once again become infected, and yesterday I took her back up to the skilled nursing facility.

The point of the story is this:  While she was in the hospital, the doctor mentioned Acell, a pig bladder based powder/sheet that allegedly regrows fingertips, here is another example of a regrown fingertip, a Marine's thigh, and so much more.

This powder was going to cost us $240(US) every other day.  I cannot afford that, period. So I called the company, and told them that they could use us as a case study, in return for treatment.  They have not used this powder post sarcoma or post radiation (that I could find). They agreed.  The rep emailed my doctor while he was repairing my wife's back, the doctor told me about it when he came from surgery, and I told him that I had contacted them. He said "That must be why they emailed me!".

Wish us luck, let's hope it is the miracle they say it is.

PLEASE read the links included, it is like science fiction.  My wife says "Doctor gave me a pill and I grew a new kidney!".  (Someone has to get that reference)

Living Room / Where Is Cody? Here!
« on: June 13, 2012, 08:12 AM »
Hello.  Cody is now visiting the Birthplace of the Oil Industry, Titusville, PA. He has been here a while, and has been very helpful. Sorry for the lack of updates, but you see, we almost lost my wife in late March. He took a back burner there for a while. He has sat here on my desk, watching over the computers and my house.

My wife is recovering and is now home after 4 months, so Cody plans on visiting the historic sites around our small town and reporting his findings.  Please bear with us as we get the ball rolling again?

Meanwhile, here is a starter on what Cody will be doing here:

General Software Discussion / Complaint: Freemake

Freemake offers freeware in the truest sense of the word: no feature or time limitations, no hidden costs. Download and use our Free Video Converter, Video Downloader, and Free Audio Converter!

Yet check out the attached screenshot.

The express install gives you the following wonderful pieces of 'software': The StartNow Toolbar and Dealply, as well as switching your search to Bing and setting your homepage to MSN.

To be fair, one can simply say no to this crapware, however, if you are going to foist your software as 'freeware', then should it not be truly free?

Maybe they should change their name to AdMake?

Here is how it works:  You can pre-order as many copies as you like of the full game, even for gifting, for $1(US).  If they make 10 Million pre-orders, everyone gets their $1 full game. If they do not, then however much was raised on the pre-orders goes to Amnesty International, and you can buy the game full price, minus $1.

Either way, I bought 3 copies. Win-Win if you ask me.

This project benefits US soldiers.  No matter if you approve of the conflicts or the politics, those men and women are in harm's way doing as they are ordered.

There are $80 worth of games here, for a requested $15 donation, although you can donate less or even nothing, and get the games for free.

I recommend the $15 donation which will send a care package to the soldiers.

Hello.  I am sure that a lot of folks have heard of Freemake's utilities, a video downloader and a video encoder/transcoder. If you are using the software, it installs a service without your permission or knowledge called "FreemakeUtilsService" which runs at system start and sits there in the background, occasionally transmitting data over the Internet, even when the software is not running.

The software is actually quite nice for encoding with a TON of features.

They state that it collects bug and crash data and then chooses the best time to send that data based on when their servers are least busy.  If there are no bugs or crashes, and even if the software has never been run, it still transmits something. (I installed it on my laptop but have not used it yet) The service can be deleted and the software continues to run. The next time you upgrade (and upgrades are frequent), the service is re-installed, set to automatically run, without the user's permission or knowledge.

Can someone help me check this service out and see what exactly it is doing and transmitting? Someone with more knowledge than me.

General Software Discussion / Advice Needed: Optical Storage
« on: November 22, 2010, 08:35 AM »
Here is the situation:

I purchased a game from Direct2Drive.  The game is 11.1gb on my HDD.  Purchasing another HDD is not an option, purchasing a portable HDD is not an option. Purchasing anything or more storage media is not an option.

I need to store this game on either regular 4gb DVD media or 8gb DVD media.

I would prefer to compress the files to one 8gb DVD.  If not, then I need a FREE or OPEN SOURCE program to split the files between DVDs and allow me to run setup from the first DVD then prompt for the second, or automatically split the files to span 4gb or 8gb DVDs for easy burning and I can copy them to HDD if I need to reinstall the game.

Any suggestions?

DC Gamer Club / Free Game-Near Perfect RPG: The Spirit Engine 2
« on: November 03, 2010, 09:49 AM »
This was once share ware and is now free. I am having an absolute blast playing this little game(210mb), so I thought I would post it here.  Be sure to donate, I did!  It is worth it.

Game Web Site: http://www.thespiritengine.com

Features(From The Author):
  • An extensive plot spanning nine distinct chapters. History is unravelling in the once peaceful state of Lereftain. Murderous cults are running unchecked through the streets, parliament is bickering, tension is building with old enemies in the west and the country's inhuman rulers seem to be losing control of the situation. Three citizens who find their paths crossing in an act of charity one dark night will find themselves burdened with the responsibilty of not only defending the nation but deciding whether to save civilisation as they know it.
  • All new and improved original graphics. Simple yet effective new effects, including parallax scrolling and screen-shake.
  • The introduction of something sorely missing from the original - difficulty levels! Play at a level to suit you and either lock it there or feel free to change it as and when you like.
  • An improved real-time combat system which builds upon the simplicity of the original. With an improved interface, greater control over characters, combat speed options and action synchronisation controls to make battles more tactical and more fun.
  • New game combat mechanics such as automatic character recovery, party chains and combination strike damage bonuses.
  • New, varied character skills to play with, including targetted attacks and debuffs, and a whole host of crafty, unfriendly creatures to use them on.
  • A vast stock of equipable items with new abilities.

Age Recommendations(From the author):
  • The Spirit Engine 2 contains themes and written dialogue that may be unsuitable for young children.
  • The in-game depiction of violence is bloodless with a few minor exceptions.
  • Any swearing is mild.

Also, scroll to the bottom of the downloads page to grab the text editor and item viewer.

From Frostclick.com:
Labeled as one of the "near perfect" RPG games in town, The Spirit Engine 2 definitely can stand on its own. The game is a 2d, side scrolling RPG game created by Mark Pay.  The original Spirit Engine was released in 2003 and this version is a more improved sequel. It features great gameplay and great storyline, much improved from the original. TSE 2 also features great soundrack and cool pixel, anime type graphics. The Spirit Engine 2  has been praised as having a great storyline...

Here is my issue.  I have been backing up my .pst (email) since Windows XP.  It has grown and I have emails saved from...well, forever? Always importing and then backing up, blah blah.  I have them saved in a folder structure, SAVED is the root, the under that there are 6 sub-folders.

I need a rule that will run on the main folder and all sub folders, moving all mail that is older than 2008 to another folder, or archiving it, automagically.  I am trying to clean the PST, it is around 900mb.  I would like to create a separate PST of all this old mail that I can then put on CD or DVD in case I ever need it, while reducing the file size of the PSt that I actually use.

Any takers?

Living Room / Motherboard Advice Needed
« on: December 10, 2009, 08:25 AM »
Hello all.  I am looking for a new motherboard.  Here is the story.

I have(had?) a Dell Inspiron 530.  I removed the guts from it and put everything in a shiny new case.  I have upgraded and modified it by adding a 9800 GTX+, 4 GB DDR2 800, 2 1TB HDDs, 1000w power supply, and 3 fans.
I am still running the stock motherboard that came with it however.
I would like to upgrade that board.

The board needs to support the Intel Q6600 Quad Core, DDR 2 or 3(backwards compatible to 2) 800 and above, SATA, PCIe, Realtek HD (like ALC888 or so) audio on board, On board LAN, decent amount of USB ports, lots of places to plug in fans, 2 or more available PCI slots, 1066 FSB.

I know what I want but am having a hard time searching for it.

Any help is appreciated.

I won a copy of Need for Speed: Shift on Twitter, for the Xbox 360.  problem is, I don't have an Xbox.  I have a PS3.  The contest did not specify which system and I wanted PC.  I emailed a few folks, and they sent me the PC version and let me keep the Xbox version.

Anyone want it?  $25+shipping Paypal.  I am verified and all that and will gladly give my address and so forth and mail it as soon as payment is received. I am not sure about export laws for shipping to other countries so I can't ship anywhere except the US.

Post New Requests Here / Req: Taskbar Extender/Spanner
« on: September 05, 2009, 10:01 AM »
Well is seems that Microsoft, in it's infinite wisdom, changed the graphics architecture in Vista and Windows 7 so that monitor spanning (one huge desktop out of 2 or more monitors) is no longer available.

I am requesting a small program that will span my windows taskbar over 2 (or more) monitors.  It should show the program's taksbar entry on the relevant monitor's taskbar.  If i have Firefox open on monitor 1, then it's taskbar entry will be on monitor one's taskbar.  Then if I have Explorer open on monitor two, it's taskbar entry will be on monitor two's taskbar.

I am hoping that will be all it does.  No wallpaper management or anything else.  Just a small resident or non-resident program that can be run at startup then hidden and will only appear in the task manager list.

There are a few programs that do this that are shareware but include a ton of other features I am not even interested in.

Thanks in advance.
