Just really getting into GridMove and loving it, but I'm having one issue:  Is there any way to modify GridMove such that I can activate grids with Middle Mouse click/drag on only the title bar, and not anywhere on the window?

Problem is, I use software (PACS) that relies on middle mouse drag for other functions, and then it conflicts with GridMove.  In addition, I end up activating it accidentally all the time on routine middle mouse clicks (i must drag a bit).  I see on the forums that other people have similar issues, and there are a few workarounds, but they diminish the clean simplicity of GridMove.

I know there are other ways to activate the grids, but I gravitated to middle mouse and used it exclusively on the title bar until I realized it worked for the whole window.  I have years of habit in going to the title bar to move windows anyway, so it feels pefectly natural to just shift to middle mouse.  Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Screenshot Captor / Can't always copy screenshot to clipboard
« on: September 25, 2009, 12:45 AM »
I have an issue which I don't think is specifically a Screenshot Captor issue (as I get the same problem using the generic XP print-screen functionality), but I thought I'd ask here and see if anyone had any idea what's going on.

Running xp/sp3 with 4gb memory and a dual monitor setup (1920x1200 each) on a Radeon 3850 (512MB), when I take a screen shot, it doesn't always capture to the clipboard.  When I use XP's native prtscrn and try to paste it into various programs (paint, paint.NET, GIMP), I get various error msgs ("Error getting clipboard data", or "There is no image data in the clipboard to paste").

Interestingly, when I use Screenshot Captor, it successfully shows the thumbnail version, and can save the image to file, but copying the image to the clipboard and trying to paste results in the same error msgs.  Sometimes I get an extremely grainy black-and-white version of the screen shot.

I have a vague sense this might be a memory issue, because despite having the maximum memory possible installed (on a 32-bit XP install), I do always have a lot of programs running, and (1920x1200x32bits) x dual monitors = lots.

Any ideas?

General Software Discussion / advice wanted re: software bounties
« on: October 09, 2008, 05:16 PM »

do you think a bounty for software can work?

there's an app that a community has been clamoring for for, literally, years, that just hasn't been fully implemented.  it's been attempted at least twice, (one open source, one closed) with ~90% functionality implemented.   After the initial rush of coding, what remains are tiresome boundary cases, that never get around to completion.  I thought if people pooled into a reasonable bounty (a few hundred $, max $1000), it might sweeten the pot and lure out programmers already interested in the project.

I use donationcoder programs (desktop coral ftw) and I initially immediately thought about posting it up as a donationcoder idea, but ultimately felt it was too big/unwieldy.  Ironically, though, i came across a post on the donationcoder forums (https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=503.0) which pointed me to fundable.org, a site which could manage the fund-raising portion of the bounty.

But I still have doubts, especially after reading about a disastrous $30,000 bounty involving the GIMP project (http://dneary.free.fr/gimp_bounties.html).  I think the big critiques of bounties is it that they create a mercenary feel and take away the fun of coding a project, which is a problem because you're still reliant on programmers being naturally interested in the project unless you can raise the obscene $ to pay for an actual contract programmer.

Finally, if this goes live, would there be any objection to posting about the bounty on donationcoder?  I know for a fact that people would be interested in the topic as donationcoder already has one program directly related to it.  All the other community-oriented bounty sites are dying/dead, and sites like rent-a-coder are too commercial.  Besides if cash is to be spent, it may as well be spent among friends :).
