Post New Requests Here / Re: editors
« on: July 16, 2012, 03:55 PM »
I should redefine my needs as,
text folding (primarily),
-gtrur3476433 (July 16, 2012, 03:50 PM)
Sublime Text 2.

font size change (even just globally (like notepad.exe))
-gtrur3476433 (July 16, 2012, 03:50 PM)
Sublime Text 2. (Only globally and per-file, not by paragraph.)

and past in jpg, png, bmp (perhaps icons) for reference
-gtrur3476433 (July 16, 2012, 03:50 PM)
This is not related to text editors, is it?

BTW:

If any know of an editor that is lighter and/or focuses on text folding and features above then posters can still holler.

I'm pretty sure Vim can do simple text folding too. I just think it's not made for you.

Sublime Text 2 (free to try, nag screens when saving files) allows text folding by simple indentations.

At least, "les horribles" is perfectly fitting.

I'd vote B.

I'll buy some Macbook just to say "man I hate this Macbook".

Also, I think I'll get some HP 635 for PC-BSD.
My Windows machine works, no need to buy a new one yet.

Don't you feel silly still having learning wheels attached to your car?

Why do people want to use Linux like they use Windows? What is the case with all these graphical installers?

Maybe you would best go with openSUSE or PC-BSD and their one click installers. :D

BTW, someone posted a comment their was no equivalent to the Windows Task Manager, there is - it is the "System Monitor", found under "Administration".
Depending on your desktop environment.

EditPad is ugly!  :P

NoteTab doesn't get much love in this stronghold of coders, but it's still a good editor if you aren't a coder.
If you aren't a coder,
1. Notepad will work for you,
2. you won't pay money for a text editor.

1537
Requires advanced understanding of technology though. :P

Your OS does not necessarily have to perform a proper shutdown when pressing the Power button. Only if it is set to.

1539
"Turn off" = shut down OR just pull the plug. This is the difference.

1540
Actually, what's the big deal? Thunderbird works.

« on: July 06, 2012, 01:12 AM »
I recently "tried" Unity (I needed to do some quick boot sector recovery and had no Debian live CD with me). Conclusion: A bloated, ugly version of the lovely WindowMaker with a bad "look" and no "feel". Ridiculous DE.

We still have nothing to import them. :(

1544
"Turn off" is not the same as "shutdown".

Vodka. Blergh. Some taste like nothing, some taste like the coat of your tongue after a long night. Vodka is for those who want to adulterate their good alcohol. I hate those people. They even drown good Czech beer in cheap coke.

1546
Easiest way to turn off your computer is to press the power button!
-Carol Haynes (June 29, 2012, 07:50 AM)
Ever did that while the system was writing into critical files? Hint: Don't.

1547
Since I had found the FindAndRunRobot (and replaced it by Launchy now  :P), I have not really used the start menu anymore. ac'tivAid has been providing my shutdown dialog (Ctrl+Q) for years anyway.  :D

It just looks weird down there without the start button.

Ask in their forums.  :P

Hmm, we Nightly users can't see as much progress as expected, it seems. Now let's see what the next version will be. I hope, not 3.0.  :D

All players which use native system codecs and don't bring their own ones, presumably.

VLC's major problem is the overdriven audio output IMO, but also video has worse quality than Media Player Classic with ffdshow. Interestingly most problems are gone when I tick the checkbox to "use system codecs", but VLC's only advantage is gone then.

Although VLC is so mediocre in terms of video/audio quality? Respectable.
