What environment? (desktop app, mobile, web), what OS?, what programming language?

3002
Though Windows seems to support Unicode environment variables, not all applications support them, and probably wont get that support until they are 'upgraded' to support Unicode from the ground up 8).

Any time I've had to define my own, I sticked with plain ascii characters a-z and 0-9, and sometimes an '_', anything else could turn up problematic in a batch file (where I use environment vars primarily).

If it's for use in your own application, and you want users to set them from the standard Windows configuration screens, I'd stick with things typable on a standard US keyboard, or else the instructions to set them could be awkward, at least.

^+1, but please feel free to share your adventures here ;D

Any chance of a x mins before fade warning ...
I'd go for the x seconds before fade warning, 15 seconds should be enough to press Ctrl-S once more 8)

3005
Actual batch file in use:

"C:\Documents and Settings\Pilgrim\My Documents\Received Files\Frameless\Frameless.exe"
"C:\Documents and Settings\Pilgrim\My Documents\Received Files\001_screenshot_1.jpg" 100 100

The exe path has spaces, so should be quoted as well. (corrected above)

The story continues, not with high dpi's but a 27" with lots of pixels combined with fine viewing angle and touch capability press release

That would make a huge smartphone  ;D

There's more 300 dpi coming to consumers, obviously, though this press announcement is 'merely' about e-paper, but it's cool, IMHO.

@tajuta Welcome to DC :up:

I like the way you pick up these issue-reports, great

I really like the way it's starting to shape up, but it's still quite buggy, unfortunately.
You did report that to the developers, I presume?

^+1, and we (NL) didn't make it to the final 20 contenders, again, this year :(

Two words (besides the obvious two): Axcrypt and Truecrypt:Thmbsup:

40hz already gave the 2 most obvious away  ;D

My mantra is always: "Wire if you can. Wifi if you must."

I'd expand that with: "Powerline if all else fails"

Only read about these adapters, and the current generation seems to be doing quite fine, but you really need good quality wiring, and no electric motors (or other distortion sources) running on the same wiring, to have a reliable connection.

For a SVN server solution, the free version of VisualSVN would do nicely if you have a local PC running some kind of Windows NT based OS (XP and up would suffice), and is probably a lot faster too. Not necessarily safer though.

check out the files it produces (in the root of the drive or in dir00001 style directories)
where do I find the files?

Try a chkdsk like operation, and check out the files it produces (in the root of the drive or in dir00001 style directories), sometimes you can find pieces of sourcecode there.

DirectX is usually faster than OpenGL because most hardware manufacturers only develop decently optimized drivers for DirectX and not (or at least much less optimized) for OpenGL, as most games support/expect/require DirectX. And .NET graphics' subsystem is optimized for DirectX as well (WPF only shines/performs well on video chips with Direct9c+ hardware support with the correct drivers installed).

Open standards are indeed better because they are open, not technically better in all cases. :-\

Living Room / Re: Intel Xeon E3-1275 compatibility.
« on: May 14, 2011, 08:52 AM »
Long answer: Going straight to the sources here (Asus) and here (Intel) give you all the specs.
Starting with the most important one, the socket LGA1155, they seem to at least physically match.
Next check is looking for what CPU's the manufacturer made the board for. There's no mention of this Xeon there, so I'm quite sure it's not going to work as you would like :o
Then try to find the matching Core ix processor, which looks like a Core i7 2600(K) would match closest.
Then look at the price of both Xeon $339,-; Core i7 2600 $294,-; Core i7 2600K $317,-
I'd ask: Why would you?

Short answer: No. Unless... (you can get your hands on both and just try without obligations)

This Tom's Hardware article explains why you'd want a real server-chipset for that CPU.

We can go to higher dpi's if anyone needs that: http://www.diginfo.t.../13/11-0097-r-en.php (4.8" @ Full-HD + 3D)

Just upgraded my Chrome from 12.something dev to 13.0.761.0 dev-m and I can confirm it is blazingly fast, WOW!

Just have to check if the some of the quirks, like password storage and listbox behavior, finally are unbroken (they've been broken IMHO since at least 9.x), so I can re-instate it as my default browser for all the Jira stuff I do in my daily work. :)

Probably the combination of the resolution more usual for a 30" monitor, combined with the 10.1" form factor of this display :-\

I suspect that Apple asked Samsung to make a 9.7" version with this resolution, but they couldn't produce them (yet), or didn't want to, to get an angle on the iPad with their own tablet. (But that didn't stop them before, AFAICS)

The iPhone 4 display is 330 dpi, higher then the first generation of laser printers @ 300 dpi...

You could contact your ISP and explain your problem? Can be a network issue on their side.
