I like the pay per use idea for software, to be honest

For example when I ran a web development agency, we had to buy software that we used only occasionally. Now we solved it by having one PC that had things like Flash Pro, 3D software etc.

But a pay per use would have been a better option

I don't know about you guys. But i can see Microsoft trying to catch up with Google by offering "pay per search" to users in US/Canada. They're trying their best to attract more search users with paid searching and rewards program (Note: that program is for IE users as it installs plugin on IE and rewards are only for US/Canada users right now.)
