Wouldn't Switzerland or France be a better name for the kitty who doesn't want to fight?

Ouch!

France? I don't get it
Switzerland is known for its neutrality, but France has been involved in many wars in the 20th century alone, and many more along its history
I'll have what she's having

I guess winning is the key...  :D

Then I guess you'd rather choose a country which was on the losing side on both World Wars during the twentieth century, like Germany for instance  ;)

But this is getting ridiculous, not to mention increasingly off-topic (mind you, Deozaan introduced the geopolitical subject in this thread). Is a country who refuses to wage wars, like Switzerland, worse than a country that is more war-friendly, like the USA?  :-\ Come on!
I just don't think that willingness to wage wars per se is a particularly fine characteristic in a country.
Just my  :two:

I guess I should emphasize that I'm neither French, nor German, Swiss or American. And i don't have particularly close ties with any of those countries.

And also I hope no one from the mentioned nationalities takes any offense from all this  :)

Hey - I didn't start all this.  (I just jumped on it with both boots!  ;D   Lovingly, of course)

I didn't intend on being political or offensive. It just seemed to me that France has been a country that has been hesitant to engage in "conflicts" over the past several years. But as you said, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

And I suppose what I was really getting at, in a roundabout way, is asking why he would name the nice kitty Persia. Isn't Persia now called Iran? This is probably becoming political now, but Iran isn't exactly known for its kind, peaceful attitude.

I apologize if anything I posted about France offended anyone here.

For a long time four of my co-workers were French and two were Italian (meaning born in France and Italy - not just their ancestry), and we all used to "insult" each other with jokes/slurs about our respective country's history or heritage. All in good fun, of course!

I just didn't think we had such sensitive ninnies..  er... members here in the Living Room.   ;) 8)

Me too. I usually don't spot many ninnies here in the Living Room forum. I guess they're all in the "Shareware Discounts for Members" or some other section ...  ;D

As for me, I guess you did read the part when I said that I'm neither French nor do I care particularly for that country, didn't you? I mean, you can insult France all you want ... just make sure you do it for the right reasons  ;)

Ok, back to cats it is  :D

is asking why he would name the nice kitty Persia

I'm obviously not sure, but I guess it's because Persian cats are one of the most common breeds of domestic cats. See: Persian catw

By the way, I didn't know there are so many different breeds of cats

Anyone know if there's any history between Sparta and Persia? I was thinking maybe it was a direct attempt to be the "opposite" of Sparta. <shrugs>

Probably, because he likes to travel around with his cat.
Surely you've heard of the Persian car pet!

Not half - never heard of Thermopylae?

My cats were very offended by this thread. They are cousins to royalty, after all - the lion is the King of Beasts - so you have all annoyed four members of the royal family, who also happen to be very dangerous predators. ;D

I'm guessing that's what the movie 300 was about?

Aware that they were being outflanked, Leonidas dismissed the bulk of the Greek army, remaining to guard the rear with 300 Spartans, 700 Thespian, 400 Thebans and perhaps a few hundred others.

Looks like it.  Not exactly standard Hollywood fare, though?  They all get killed in the end; it was one of the most famous last-stands in history.

Can't speak for everyone, but for me the movie 300 was all about Lena Headey:-*;D

I was just sent this by a friend:

The following message  was sent to Hewlett Packard about one of their new printers.  Read the letters then  look at the video

READ THE MESSAGE BELOW TO THE GEEK SQUAD AND THEIR ANSWER BEFORE LOOKING AT THE VIDEO!

Dear Geek Squad

I recently purchased an HP printer and when I stay in the room when
it's printing it works perfectly. However, nearly every time I leave the
room while a print job is in progress and come back a bit later, I find all
the papers come out wrinkled, sometimes even shredded, with blurred ink.

If I re-start the print job and baby sit it there are no problems.
You can imagine that this has been very frustrating and I would appreciate
one of your technicians coming out to fix whatever the problem is.

Thank you
Dave Larson

----------------

Dave

Thank you for contacting the Geek Squad. As you know, one of our top
technicians was dispatched to investigate your printer problem. His
initial findings mirrored your experience so he set up a hidden camera to
document what was causing the paper disruption.

Please review the attached video, and thanks again for your business,
and for the laughs we all had upon discovering the source of your
problem.

The Geek squad

Video attached in WMV format.

I have also added a DIVX version for anyone who can't play WMV but I had to ZIP it as DIVX is not a permitted file type.
