Farr Alias: Ixquick & Startpage Search
« on: March 12, 2012, 11:57 PM »
This is an alias to search using Ixquick and Startpage. They pride on being the most private search engines at the moment. To know more about their services, this post by Edvard may be helpful.

install info
download the zipped file and extract the contents into Farr's sub-folder '\AliasGroups\Installed' or into '\AliasGroups\MyCustom'. Windows 7 users might need to check in the "My Documents" folder instead of the app folder.

if Farr is running in the background, you may need to open the Options dialog once for Farr to activate the alias.

usage info
to use the alias, simply type sp, ix or ixquick followed by your query.

tip: use Ctrl+Alt+ Enter to open both websites at the same time.

credits
thanks to Edvard for the high-res icons.

Wonderful, thank you.

Would it be possible that when both are used for search (Ctrl+Alt+Enter) only one browser window opens with two tabs? Currently two browser windows open.

I thought they were the same - one is a company and one is a brand?

Startpage includes google searches while "plain" Ixquick doesn't.

Example:
https://ixquick.com/...lutionary+algorithms
https://startpage.co...lutionary+algorithms

@Attronarch: what browser are you using? i'm afraid this is a per-browser setting but i might be mistaken..

I'm using Palemoon.

Also, it is worth noting that both searches WILL open in one browser window if browser was launched before searches. If searches are launched while browser isn't, two browser windows will open.

I can provide screenshots if needed.

Bump for this great alias! Convenience of FARR and privacy of Ixquick / Startpage make it easy to search for anything without too much hassle!
