DC Website Help and Extras / Re: DC site often doesn't load at all...

It's been quite stable, though somewhat slow, since the Cloudflare protection was re-enabled, recently.

Yesterday I've posted a similar message to mouser on the Discord general-discussion channel, but he hasn't responded yet.
I've seen the same behavior for several weeks now, usually about a failed TLS handshake (HTTP 525 error) between CF and the DC server. I live in the Netherlands, Europe (CET).

And then there is also the issue that nearly all Taskbar related tools no longer work with the completely rebuilt (and severely broken) Windows 11 taskbar

Hm, the most recent version of Autohotkey is nearly a year old, so that's had enough time to earn some trust, and avoid being blocked by the regular AV packages.
I haven't used McAfee AV for about 10 years, the first thing to remove from a new computer when installed in fact, as it's not worth the money they ask for it, any free offering used to be better and lower on system resources, and currently MS Defender is leading the free offerings.

Any half decent AV package has options to exclude folders from (excessive) scanning, and that's where your AHK dev folders should be added (in fact, any development folder should be added there, to avoid all files being scanned at every compilation), so you can actually work on your software, without being bothered by unneeded and overzealous AV actions.

Unfortunately we can't access the internet and not have AV on our computers, though you can switch away from Windows, but that can be hard, I know. Most part of my development-life is on Windows, though for some parts I've switched to building on WSL2, as that's up to 5 times faster, compared to working directly in Windows. But I'm not producing Windows executables there, only IoT related stuff to be installed on microcontrollers ;)

Android Apps / Re: WhenLast (Android app) - v2.20 Beta - Aug 20, 2018

I still have it in use on my Pixel 9a, it transferred nicely with all other apps from my Pixel 7a a few months ago, after the 7a acquired the known battery expansion issue :tellme:
Didn't see it in the Play store either, though.

General Software Discussion / Re: Windows 10 End of Life: October 14, 2025
« Last post by Ath on September 05, 2025, 03:42 PM »
I'd love to keep using Windows 10, but that's not possible without giving up basic security, and Windows 11 isn't living up to expectations, as MS is removing long-living, and used, functionality from Win 11 (removing stuff from Explorer :o), so still contemplating switching to Linux (don't want to invest in way too expensive Apple hardware), but a lot of tools I'm used to are only available on Windows so still searching for alternatives...

Screenshot Captor / Re: Shortcuts not working with external keyboard
« Last post by Ath on April 29, 2025, 04:27 PM »
We need a little more technical information, as currently, any reply is a stab in the dark:
- Make & model notebook?
- Windows version/build & update level?
- Make & model docking station?
- Make & model external keyboard?
- Any particular cable/wiring setup?

Currently, the only way I see is in the right-bottom of ScreenshotCaptor where the hex color code is displayed, but that's not a color picker, of course.

I see it every time I refresh the page, only now and then I have to tick the checkbox to continue.

Maybe it is because there's still a huge number of guests online.
Between 500 and 1500 guests is quite usual, for this forum, as I've observed over the last 10+ years. Once it goes over 10000 it seems to be problematic for performance.

Well, the check will be visible until the DDOS protection is turned off again.

This was also the case, the previous time the site returned from the cloud-flare DDOS protection shield, we had the past weeks. Looks much like a DNS issue, probably still pointing to the protection server that's no longer in use :-\

General Software Discussion / Re: Problem auto-typing into Notepad??
« Last post by Ath on January 31, 2025, 04:25 PM »
has Microsoft done something bad to Notepad, of all things?

Well, starting with Windows 11 they for sure broke Windows Explorer, so why not notepad... :o

AFAICS, they let some new interns, probably all younger than Windows 7, rewrite both Explorer and Notepad, and dumped the first alpha on the general public. NB: I've refrained from using Notepad for many years, as it's totally useless compared to any alternative available.

PBOL / Re: problem with PBOL
« Last post by Ath on January 13, 2025, 04:23 PM »
Are those P: and O: drives local on your computer, or mapped to some network drive like a NAS and connected/available after PBOL has loaded?

placing the inis a system folder may help.
Have you tried this useful suggestion already? Or at least place the ini file, and the software, on your boot-drive (something like C:\Pbol would be a good choice).

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: What are Mouser plan for this tool?
« Last post by Ath on October 16, 2024, 04:40 PM »
I don't know (as I'm still on Windows 10) -- have there been problems with mouser's software on Windows 11 ?

Not with ScreenshotCaptor (used nearly daily) or any of the other tools, in ~2.5 years since I'm using Win11 (new laptop came with Win11).

In the Preferences screen, there's a page full of 'Post capture options' to choose from. Most likely you've set one of the options there that's causing this behavior, maybe a Commandline tool?

I have replaced them, on multiple M705, but only mediocre quality switches I could find on the interwebz, so, 6 months later the issue was back, and I couldn't find the motivation to replace them again

hoping that the modern "gaming" mice will be more resistant.
After years of using Logitech M705 mice, where newer editions started double-clicking when not intended because of poor switches, I've since then bought the Razer Basilisk X, and that has proven to be of better quality, and still big enough for my not so small hands, but not as bulky and pricey as the Logitech MX Master. Another reason not to choose Logitech again was several reports of their sometimes poor quality from other ppl (colleagues, forum, tech-news).
