It is very possible that when you update your bios, it resets to default settings and sata raid isn't typically the default setting. to be on the safe side, I probably call MSI and ask them if updating bios affect any raid settings.

The Z370 chipset supports sata raid. Updating the bios shouldn't affect the usability of it, unless as mentioned above, settings get reset to default. It would be very crappy move on the vendors part if they wiped out raid pertinent settings.

I can already see this from a mobo vender.. oh hey.. urgent update your bios to mitigate intel's latest cpu vulnerabilities.. oh btw your will lose all your raid configs.

I too dislike W10.. and purposefully haven't bought new hardware (using intel gen 6 processor). That being said,  5 months down the road.. you won't have a choice.

Is it worth the stress and headaches trying to make your hardware run an OS that isn't  "properly" supported anymore? I am not trying to discourage you, just food for thought.

Either upgrade to W10 or Linux (Mac is another expensive option), assuming you want your OS to be security patched and vendor supported (drivers and such).

Little OT.. What really ticks me off is that software now is being (artificially in most cases) written for W10 build specific (1607, 1709, 1809 blah blah).

It should be fine updating the BIOS. Modern motherboards are designed to support at least a generation or two of processors. Typically they are limited by socket type. Reading downloadable PDF Manual for your MB, it says Intel 8 Gen processors. If your current bios is v10.. yeah you would definitely benefit from bios update. Each version up seems to add/fix compatibility issues.

Mobo's generally aren't locked to just one processor, it's generally a generation or two (depending.. in the case of AMD.. they are pretty awesome in how many generations one slot type can support).

Yes.. different vendors play games with (sata operation) AHCI/RAID settings. Especially laptops.. had my share of games that vendors play. Machine has 1 HD yet.. one model has to be AHCI and the other RAID.

Disable HD sleep (Turn off HD after x minutes.. set to 0)
Set link state power management to off

Wouldn't hurt to see if there is a bios upgrade to your MB. From experience, I have had several quirky (USB issues, memory compatibility, AHCI) things magically fixed after doing a bios update.

Hm.. I am assuming print to pdf is a "driver", so when you start the program for the first time, it could ask the user if the user would like a pdf printer installed on the machine. Adding to context menu (assuming you mean right click menu) is a registry key, Winrar and 7zip do that on demand, add to context menu.

Basically hoping for a new breed of portable apps, especially the way Win10 is shaping up.

Another interesting thing I noticed with FF 51 is how stable it seems to be even when there is high memory consumption. Older versions, FF would stutter, pause, slow response etc.

FYI for Scrabble fans on IOS. It seems EA has officially dropped multiplayer support for their IOS version of scrabble.

Incredibly annoying. No rhyme or reason as to why. Found out about it from their forum.

Their answer to play multiplayer is.. use Facebook.

Good news.. I got klipfolio to work again! I removed my firewall settings for klipfolio and it all started working again.

Guess somehow the settings didn't import properly.

Yes, it's odd why Newzie is screwing up on my desktop like that. In my VM machine, it's all fine. I copied the folder and settings over to my Win7 and XP VM's and it all works. Conflict with another program would be my guess at this point.

Jump Desktop

Been using it for years. Works well and is frequently updated. Added bonus, you can seamlessly remote any desktop that has the agent running. Don't have to mess with firewall/router settings.

It is payware but it's worth every penny.

HMMM! Windows Update Change

Home users and desktops I see it as a big plus, but for Servers.. I am not sure.

Recently there were a couple security updates that broke several software services running on a business server. Vendor stated to roll back those two security fixes while they come up with a work around.

I am pretty sure the above is pretty common in large business environments.  Now with this single update change.. it's all or nothing.

Hm.. the Today view, is passable. So started to set my feeds up, then I ran into a bug I think. When I went to move the window, it would always shift more in the direction than I wanted to to.

Currently it is off then desktop screen..  heh! Uninstalled it, set everything up again and the movement placement bug crops up again. Oi... keeps wanting to go off screen whenever I place it near the edge of the screen. Can't seem to figure out how to bring it back short of uninstall and reinstall.

Thanks for trying to help. I will play around with it some more.

My bad.. was confusing it with another rss reader that has a similar interface. For whatever reason the other rss reader called the viewing pane a widget window. I guess it was a multi-functional area for that app.

Basically, Newzie seems to be using it's internal browser to display the rss article. Trying to avoid that. That seems to be what most rss applications do.

That was the beauty of Klipfolio rss, it just lists the headers of the rss page and when you hover over it, it shows you the first few sentences or paragraph and if you are still interested, click on it the header and then it launches in whatever browser you have open or associated.

There is something similar.. Snakr (snackr.net) but it runs on Adobe Air... makes me shudder. I avoid Adobe plugins, causes more security holes than anything out there.

It seems there really isn't any RSS reader out there similar to Klipfolio's layout.

Bit like a floating RSS ticker (vertical) that floats on the desktop. I loved the simplicity of how Klipfolio would allow you add an RSS feed and you just hover over the headline and would show you the details, or click on the the headline and it would open in your browser.

I have attached a screenshot of what I am talking about.

Unfortunately Klipfolio is very dated.. and it's showing it's age by not being able to do SSL RSS feeds.

I would be happy to donate towards any author that would be kind enough to consider this task.

Zip and Jaz drives were totally rad when they first came out. And they were a welcome (and much more reliable) replacement for all those old Quantum tape drives that always seemed to backup your data just fine but often stumbled severely whenever you tried to restore something.

Yep.. was totally psyched with my first zip drive and set of disks.. until 2 months later.. click of death.. pulled the metal sheath aside to look at the media.. ring of scratch...   

With that being said.. the speed was amazing compared to floppies. For some reason the the 5 1/4 floppy seemed to hold up better than any of the hard shell equivalents.

Probably applies to most touch based apps out there as well.

Lately it seems apps have gone full throttle with scrolling up the wazoo to show tidbits of information per scroll page. What's wrong with edge touch to go to the next page instead of having to waste time moving your hand/finger across the screen and then having to stop the scroll just so you don't miss that info. Classic example would be the *newly* updated The Weather Channel Max. The older version you could retrieve key info one touch away from the home screen, the new version.. good grief, you have to scroll to kingdom come to get the same info. The user reviews say it all.

I have emailed some of the app devs and the read between the line response is that people like the whole scrolling experience. Umm.. respectfully, I say BS!, just means you can put more ads.. tidbit of info.. more ads.. and when you scroll users are unable to determine how many pages of ads they have just seen. For paid apps, just means endless scrolling. Yay for improved user experience! *coughs* bullshit *coughs*

The other pet peeve, help support within an app, majority of them rely on you using IOS apple email app. Would it kill them to do a simple builtin send mail within the app itself. I am sure there are a lot of people that use other email apps and not just the default.
