General Software Discussion / Re: Anyone familiar with AnVir Security Suite?
« Last post by tomos on January 28, 2008, 07:33 AM »
[edit] thought it antivir - seems it's something else altogether - sorry bout that [/edit]

do you mean antivir in general or what Lashiec (i.e. what is this "it" you talking about :tellme: :))

Anti-Vir anti-virus is supposed to be one of the best although it has a reputation of finding a lot of false positives
The rest I dont know about

[edit] thought I'd just leave the post anyway cause I'm sure lots of people think the anvir is just a typo! [/edit]

Living Room / Re: Mini How-To: How to make your PC go to silent standby (S3 mode)
« Last post by tomos on January 24, 2008, 03:40 PM »
I only discovered that myself lately - I was using hibernation on my last machine cause I didnt realise I could change this.

I changed it in the bios -
all I did was change S1 to S3

but my computer wont wake up with the mouse or keyboard - even though it should
In device manager:

    * under Keyboards
          o Properties on Microsoft eHome...
                + Power management TAB
                      # Make sure 'Allow this device to bring..." is checked
          o Properties on your keyboard
+ Power management TAB (if exists)
                      # Change setting based on your preference
    * under Mice and other pointing devices
          o Properties on your mouse
+ Power management TAB (if exists)
                      # Change setting based on your preference
from your link above mouser (these all selected)

but I'm happy enough, oh, forgot to say, it wakes up when I press the power button :)
(on the other hand the power button is set to send it into hibernation :-\)
I might try some of the other stuff he did - registry, other bios settings
or
then again maybe not -cause as I say I happy enough - no fans quickly if I select standby

That's a joke, right?

Or isn't there any safe torage requirements for guns in the .us?
Yes, but aren't there also people in your location who ignore such laws?  There are here.

another thing too is that very few people over here have guns in the first place
(I guess that's a generalisation about Europe :-\ I wouldnt be sure about lot of countries here but I think it's fairly much the case)

I never play flash games -
well, except for that spell trying to get the plane out the window :-[
(How far can you throw a paper airplane)

so I cant be very critical but I enjoyed this

I was doing some research on Arial versus Helvetica and came across this

Living Room / Re: 40+ Free Professional Fonts from Smashing Magazine
« Last post by tomos on January 22, 2008, 04:17 PM »
Smashing presents a critique of over 40 free fonts, all professional quality.  Examples abound, so it's incredibly easy to spot the ones that really kern your descenders.
I came across this page again today via google
and thought -
that looks very familiar....

Recently I’ve been browsing through the Net searching for the best license-free fonts which would fit as a serious heading for a serious online-presentation...

more bleeding ripoffs I was thinking ... until I saw it's from the same author :-[

they really are a super collection
and there's a bitmap list which I havent really loooked at..

15 Best License-Free Pixel Fonts

Some weeks ago I have written about 25 Best License-Free Quality fonts
...
I decided to publish an article about the best quality pixel fonts: working on my last project (it’s not online yet), I needed something serious, official, good-looking and readable. The results can be found below.

Actually, pixel fonts can be used in every project and fulfil different purposes. I prefer to use them for small buttons such as “sign-up” or “log-in” images together with marvellous FamFamFam Icons which can breathe a new life in a “too” official and serious text presentation. Nevertheless, pixel fonts are still a trend, so, i.e., most “Creativity-Inspiraion-Idea-Generation”-sites
(images are very small actually not sure when this was written - have screen resolutions gone too high for them :-\ )

General Software Discussion / Re: What's your preferred File Manager
« Last post by tomos on January 22, 2008, 08:13 AM »
I have the context menu problem in DOpus 9 as well but completely the reverse of J-Mac's problem (which is odd). If I disable Windows Explorer entries from displaying in the DOpus context menu it takes up to 15 seconds for the Context Menu to appear. If I leave the default settings in place and have both appear, the context menu appears instanteously.

is it possible to have something in DOpus context but not in windows context menu - and that *it* could be causing the problem?

I've heard of the slow context menu J-Mac - had it to a certain extent on my last computer (the longer the install the worse it got..) but never that bad
Would drive me mad alright :tellme:

Re changing filenames for a series of files, a good trick in DOpus is:-
Select file
Press F2
Name part gets selected - rename
DONT press return -
Press down arrow and next file is selected, editable and ready for rename
and so on down the list

I presume you know that when filename is editable, that right arrow brings you to end of name but before the dot, for adding suffix:
Filename|.ext
Left arrow brings you to beginning of name
*********

That problem with images is extremely odd - all images ??
Have you reported it as a bug?
What's your default viewer? - have you changed it lately ?
(I ask cause I had problems after setting ExifPro as default viewer :-\ - but not like that problem..)

wonderful looking stuff - I wonder about the malware choice too  -
or maybe it was simply a comission from messagelabs
I wonder what e.g. FARR would look like..
maybe we should commission him :)

or do viruses etc look so nice because of their nature to hook into things (says he with absolutely no notion about viruses)

hi f0dder or anyone
I found a use for this - or should that be the other way round :-\ do you have any recommendations for the password?
I presume it would be the usual recommendations
have a number or two, maybe a symbol or two, and maybe a break in it

again presume you use the same password for all/any notes on the one usb stick?

I keep reading it as "Brandin IMP"!

the the "i"PRODUCT name-craze i guess
