General Software Discussion / Re: SQLNotes...what is it exactly?
« Last post by tomos on February 07, 2008, 03:07 PM »
hey, that worked
 thanks Pierre!

also figured out why stuff was missing from Billing grid -
the filter was on:-
duration >= 0  and StartDate is not null and BillingNo is null
and I had added some items without start dates

Now, I'm curious -
there's some items here where the job is finished so I've added invoice number to Billing number column -
I wouldnt have thought they'd show with that filter, but they do -
I'm wondering why?

Also wondering is this filter-speak/language something that's unique to SQL or is it something more universal -
and if there's anywhere I can get a few tips with it!!

hmm,
I thought it had been default -
was there maybe an estimate one and I just changed the name :-\
hey!
it must have been default at some stage - see screenshot here, same columns and name,
http://sqlnotes.wiki...es.com/Time+tracking
that one has "StartDate and enddate and Billing"
which doesnt work here..

gotta go now will try later or tomorrow

THe "journal" idea sounds good Pierre (I hadnt any other fields filled except some html notes on one or two of them)
will go try

that didnt actually work
(maybe I not using the date filter correctly - no I double checked - followed your instructions exactly..)
but I found them via the IDItem number, they were all fairly recent so it wasnt too painful

I have another problem now - I've lost the three most recent entries in "Billing" too :-\ so I tried the same thing
again without success - even though the missing things are visible in "Projects" (so they not "lost" as such..)
But my main problem right now is that I've changed the grid-source in Billing & want to change it back but didnt keep note of what it was...
Is one (=me!) supposed to keep track of that or is there some easy way to get back to last known or default source :tellme:

help...lost a few items from ToDo list -
I deselected box in inbox column
F5 gone

"ToDo or due or FollowUp or inbox"
cause they werent selected as done, I presumed they'd not dissapear!
There wasnt much but I cant remember what exactly they were so cant search..

speaking of ToDo, I'll bump this idea:
As part of the GTD implementation, new quick Add Item form is now available. CTRL-N to open it. A system-wide shortcut is also available to open it from anywhere (CTRL-ALT-N): (see attachment in previous post)

You can enter item text, decide into which folder to put it in (normally, the inbox) and put a due date if required
SQLnotes02.png
I'm trying to figure out what they are in the drop down list - are they all yes/no fields maybe/I think - yes, apart from "Adress" :-\
You call them folders (thought there wasnt any of them in SQL :P)

What I would love to see:-
want to organise my ToDo by Projects & maybe a couple of miscellaneous or whatever
If (in this Crtl+Alt+N box) I could save stuff in ToDo grid - but also choose an item (Project) and make the note a sub-item of this item

So then when I go in to ToDo I can look at a particular project or two, or naturally I can sort in some other way if preferred

Then, even better, if I could number them in some way that if I drag an item up the line the number changes
I suspect that's not likely possible - I'm trying to think of some way that I can easily change the order of the items - in order to make them show in order of importance. eg. new item that I want to slot into place three in a list of ten items
Then I could hopefuly show the top few from each project by filtering

This is very cool. Lite-On, known for being one of the top optical drives manufacturers, recently won the Red dot award for the "Best Design Concept" with its "Moldable Mouse" proposal, that just does what it suggests.

I'd go for it in a shot...
"covered with nylon and polyurethane blend fabric." -
wonder if it'll be machine washable too ;D - or maybe I should go for the waterproof inflatable one  :-\

Cooler Master
CM 690 ATX Mid Tower
...
Has anybody used one of these before? Did you like it?

no, but had a look at Geizahls.de - mixed but generally positive customer reviews - probably absolutely super at that price but not at full price (complaints about the details/finishing)

what I miss in most viewers is the option to zoom into a selected area of image
Oh, but MaxView won't let you down on that! Try pressing ctrl and dragging with left button! :D
ahhgh SUPER!! -I'm sold! :-*

and
@Perry, repeat continuously works nicely  -
I did like the warning in imagine but can imagine that [in imagine ;D] getting annoying too

Thanks for the review jgpaiva !!

I been using Imagine very briefly lately. as reported by Lanux

this came up in gHacks recently: Imagine. looks good but haven't tried it yet..

what I miss straight away in Faststone (compared to imagine) is that it wont go from last file in folder back to first ("Jump to the first file?" box pops up)
also miss the modifiable shortcuts..
but I'm finding Imagine either a bit buggy or else it has very strange defaults with regard to zoom - havent looked into it enough yet
[edit - what gets me most about imagine is no pan :tellme: you hae to use arrows - edit]

Faststone does give a lovely full view of images - no messing around with windows etc!
so think I'll try it a bit :)

what I miss in most viewers is the option to zoom into a selected area of image
e.g. in adobe and other graphics products:
-
Ctrl+Spacebar and click/drag to select area to zoom into - add alt for zoom out
Spacebar for pan -
(mind you thats all a bit broken in Acrobat 8 - changing from zoom to pan doesnt work properly)

« Last post by tomos on February 01, 2008, 04:43 AM »
OK, I'll attach a very quick wink of some editing in WikidPad. You basically just
1. Type your thoughts
2. Select the word/s that you want to become a link to a new page
3. CamelCase them or surround with square brackets (which will turn them into a link)
4. Access the link by double click (which will take you to a new page)
5. go to #1 and start typing again (if you think that's cyclic, wait till you see the wink  ;))
Perry: you're a star

Will go off now to find the infinite loop :)

can someone help me get going here!! (as said earlier I've no wiki experience :( so far)
-
I've created a new wiki
currently there's "WikiSettings" as a link in there

eh, do I just start typing or what :tellme:
help is alphabetical which might be helpful to someone but it's no quick-start-guide :D

I understand the basics of linking (I think) but dont understand how info is displayed -
are there different "notes" or "pages" - if so how do i create a new one?

thanks,
Tom
[edit] under plugins ;D I found "create new page" - I guess that's it ??

But GMail is https by default...

you got me there Lashiec - maybe it was written for when it wasnt
or maybe it's because of this: Even SSL Gmail can get sidejacked

IIRC there is a greasemonkey script that will switch to https for all sorts of sites from google. Maybe that can be extended to include your forums.

I have Better Gmail 2
https://addons.mozil...S/firefox/addon/6076
which allows you to force https for gmail

I think I got it via Lifehacker though :-\

For example, in the Coding Snacks board, ideas that have come to fruition and have sprouted fully-fledged, named applications (mixing my flora and fauna metaphors there) are still to be found in threads titled "IDEA: description of idea".  It would tidy things up a lot to rename these threads with something like "DONE:" and the application/script name.

GridMove (IDEA: drag window to edge automatically resizes it), TitleLog (IDEA: Very simple timeclock utility) come to mind straight away...

So, Tom, how are you finding DirectAccess, then?

ehh...
the last week I've been totally bogged down with PDFs that look and print perfectly on my machine but not on others (I've actually found a solution but now have to redo them) so I havent even looked at it - I saw it in the context menu once though :P

will reply again when things calm down !

I got "Dancing Alone" with a date of 28/11/2007 appearing as a sub item under the first individual in the first family. I found that item is in the Music Libray grid - and can't see how it got connected

going by my previous post,
you could try removing all items from tag list (again, in context menu its in with "add items to tag list" entry) and then try again

tried a couple of test items here -
when I clear the tag list, it works as expected
