Google, destroyer of ecosystems.. And what he describes in Google's MO is startlingly familiar.  Quite similar to what MS used to do.

Agreed.

Looks pretty cool from the trailer.

One last thing -- with your folks approval, and once I get these last new features running smoothly, I'd like to take release the official non-beta release of SC as "Screenshot Captor 4.0".

It's been over a year since version 3 came out, which is a reasonable time between major version numbers (though it took more years to go from version 2 to 3).

Just tried the new image uploader...very quick and easy.
Great, that's what i was aiming for.

One question about using pixlr's imm.io:  The FAQ on the site refers to Remove and Rename tabs, but they don't appear to be available when auto-uploading screenshots via SC.  Is there a way to delete the photos on this site once they've been uploaded by SC?

Afraid not.  Using Imm.IO (at least through SC) means you don't have to provide any username or password or key, and you don't have to sign up at their site, BUT the consequence of this is that once a file is uploaded, it's out of your control.

HOWEVER,
If you download the latest Screenshot Captor beta you will now see you have an additional choice of upload service; in addition to Imm.IO, you can now use ImageShack.  With ImageShack you can provide a username+password, or cookie (your registration #), and optionally your own api key (not needed, will fall back to default one if not provided).  IF you choose to specify those values associated with your ImageShack account, you can manage your screenshots there after you upload.  And I must say it's worth the effort because it's a nice interface and you can delete anything you upload by mistake.

Let me know if you have any trouble with the ImageShack uploader module.  One tip to look out for is that ImageShack seems to fallback on anonymous upload if there is something it doesn't like about your credentials.  So after you put in your username+pass (or better cookie), make sure it really is uploading into your ImageShack account, and not anonymously.  The LOG tab can also help here (look for <uploader> info).

I'm anxious to hear how you guys like the new uploader.  It's been something I've wanted to add for a long time.  I think for the next NANY event I'll make the uploader a standalone utility and make it easy to add (plugin) support for tons of uploading services.

TIP: when you sign up at ImageShack they send you an email that tells you your registration COOKIE; its the #s here "http://imageshack.us/setlogin.php?login=#############".  That is probably better to use than username+pass in the service configuration.

ps. I expect the new built-in image uploader may have some rough edges; let me know what bugs you find.
9807
New version is up and I could not help but sneak in a MAJOR new feature -- a new built-in image uploader.

SC will still happily tie in to ShareX or any other tool, but it now has it's own for super quick and easy screenshot uploading and sharing without having to install an addon.  I know it's something people have asked for.

Note that I'm currently using the imm.io service, which has nice usage terms and seems stable.

As this is a brand new feature, I'd appreciate bug reports.  Let me know what you think.

ps. I'll be adding more image hosting sites to the built-in system soon.

General Software Discussion / Re: MagicRAR Drive Press - worth anything?
« Last post by mouser on March 17, 2013, 11:19 AM »
Hi Zatronium --

I've spoken to the author of Comprexx and he is in fact teamed up with the MagicRar folks -- so that's why you are noticing that it's the same underlying system.  They are created by same author.
9810
Interesting theory..

If you're planning on using WebDrive to do file synchronization with a remote server, I can no longer recommend it.

For reasons completely unfathomable to me, last week WebDrive decided that it would redownload EVERY file EVERY time it connects, rendering it completely unusable as a file synchronization tool.  Your mileage may very but the app went from essential to useless for me overnight.
9812
I'm thinking of making some more short how-to videos for Screenshot Captor, to show how to do certain things efficiently.
Does anyone have any requests for specific how-to videos for SC?
(existing videos are here).

New version is up, with two substantial improvements regarding Object editing.

First, the undo handling is improved, especially for modifying object properties and text.  You should find it does a much better job of letting you undo changes to an objects properties, and better feedback in the status bar when doing so.  The right-hand panel in the status bar now shows you how many undo buffer steps are available when working with a modified file.

I still advise all serious SC users who are editing a non-trivial screenshot with lots of objects to train themselves to occasionally use the "Save+" button which quickly saves a new version and lets you keep working on it -- it's the best possible way to give yourself some safety if you mess up and want to go back to a previous version.

Second, I noticed that in previous versions if you did some manipulation to the files entirely within the thumbnail browser (like dragged+dropped them to move them between folders), the hidden .object files would not follow -- which would result in a loss of the editable .object files after such actions.  This is now fixed and SC will pick up on any such move/copy/rename/delete operations and make sure the .object files follow the files.

Thanks again for all the testing -- I'm hoping to go live with a non-beta on monday.

UrlSnooper / Re: Installation failed
« Last post by mouser on March 15, 2013, 04:43 PM »
I think i see a mistake in my installer that might be causing this problem.  It may be that the installer is launching the WinPCap installer explicitly with non-administration rights.

I've uploaded a new version of UrlSnooper installer (same url as normal) -- can you give it a try? (just install on top of old version of url snooper, no need to uninstall first).

Let me know if it works.
9815
Ha.. those are funny  ;D
Is it from a tv show?

I'm happy to have a discussion on any such issues -- but most such discussions should probably take place in a different area of the site -- probably the site features area or general section?

I can see that there may be a need for a place we people can discuss the hiring of coders who hang out at DC for custom work, but..  I'd like us to keep this new forum area very tightly focused on the needs and concerns of companies who are interested in commercial licensing of software produced by DonationCoder.

Again -- I think we should have the discussions you are talking about -- just in a different area (at least for the time being -- who knows maybe we will decide that such discussions should be absorbed here at a later date).

If all goes well that means this will be a pretty quiet area of the forum -- but one where current or potential commercial site license holders will feel comfortable posting.
9817
This new section of our forum will focus on questions and answers related to the commercial licensing of DonationCoder.com software.

If you are interested in licensing or deploying any of our software for company-wide use, we'd be happy to answer any questions you might have.
Or perhaps you would be interested in hiring us for custom software development?

You can contact us directly using the contact form on the website, or via email at [email protected], or just ask your question publicly in this section.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Screenshot Captor keeps saving PCX files
« Last post by mouser on March 14, 2013, 10:58 PM »
I need more information.  I can't figure out what you are saying happens..

So you go to options, you change that drop down list to JPG.
You exit SC.
You restart SC.
You go to options -- what does it show in the default file save format box? JPG or PCX?
Is it saving other options changes you make?

Is it that the options are showing JPG but its saving new screenshots as PCX? or it is that the options are reverting to PCX? Or is it something else?

Are you saying it works fine until you restart SC? Or are you saying it NEVER saves in jpg?

Just walk me through exactly what you are doing and seeing please.

I need some clarification on what you say is happening -- are you saying if you change that to JPG that it doesn't obey this when creating new screenshots?

In other words, can you walk me through exactly what you are doing, what you are seeing, and what you expected to happen in contrast to what actually happened.

ps. unless you are in an alternate universe, no one should be using anything but PNG for screenshots.
9820
Just a mistake in my part in not updating the version here -- the latest version is 2.17.1

Screenshot Captor / Re: Mouse follow option - idea
« Last post by mouser on March 14, 2013, 06:10 AM »
Using it would mean that every screen capture would only take pictures for the screen where mouse is at

um... doesn't SC already work like this?
it does for me -- this is exactly how "capture screen" works on multimon setups.
9823
Sorry, you are right 'c' and 'p' do the same thing -- they do what the "capture+" button does -- that is, they take a very quick snapshot and save it and stay open -- and bypass any post-capture options.

The 'S' key does a Snapshot capture, which closes the webcam dialog, and does whatever the normal post-capture options are (show post-capture dialog, print, upload, caption, etc.).
9824
Sorry about that, please redownload.
Ps. from the Webcam capture form you can hit 'c' and 'p' to do the two different kinds of captures.
9825
Standby, maybe i broke something.
