Today the update advert ^ was installed on my laptop (and it won't exit),
Have you tried this? How to block Windows 10 Upgrade notifications in earlier versions of Windows
I have followed this instruction:
Wasn't Windows 10 supposed to be free?
http://www.techsuppo...g-how-get-rid-it.htm (regarding KB3035583) "All About the Windows 10 Upgrade App Including How to Get Rid of it"
Uninstall KB3035583. The next time Windows Update will promote KB3035583, just hide it.

It came as a chock to me, but it seems Real Life can be different from what the teacher said!  :o

I removed KB3035583 all right, but somehow the icon from Windows 10 Upgrade App is still showing up in my "notification area" (Win 7):

2015-06-06_095846.png

- but will disappear when my mouse comes close! Weird, isn't it?

It's not "comes and goes", but it stays away until next time Windows has booted.

Do "you" know where I can expect to find (and delete) this icon? this icon that really isn't there? that isn't there until next time I start up Windows?
 :tellme:

-----------
Modified several times:

in "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Notification Area Icons" I clicked hide, and at first the icon went away, but after re-boot, it was back (and goes away when the mouse pointer gets close). So, the icon is hidden, but is still visible, without being there. This is getting confusing!

you may like WhiteSmoke: http://www.whitesmoke.com/

However, they are merchants, not saints: Many people will not come anywhere near WhiteSmoke, because of their sales department's gangster reputation. But the program itself is fine. Expensive (of course), but fine. Or at least it used to be fine, when I was using it some years ago; I have not used it for more than 3 years.

By the way, I am sure PC/hardware manufacturers are thrilled MS is giving people reason to keep their current systems
I'm sure most companies will simply upgrade all their old stock to Windows 10 and try sell it as something new and fantastic to people who don't have a clue
-Stephen66515 (June 03, 2015, 01:51 PM)

-that's what 'they' did to me some years ago: "This is a new computer", they said. No, it wasn't, it was an old computer with some updated parts. Unfortunately it took me so loooong time to understand how I was cheated, that the shop no longer existed.

# "All About the Windows 10 Upgrade App Including How to Get Rid of it"

Today the update advert ^ was installed on my laptop (and it won't exit), so I gave them my email address, because I expect this to be one way they will leave me in relative peace, until the end of July. The advert specifically said that the upgrade to '10' would only be free for a limited period of time: [advert]*Yes, free. This limited time upgrade offer is for a full version of Windows 10,[/advert] It will be interesting to see what they actually mean. Also, I am anxious to see how Cortana, the Personal Digital Assistant, will work. If it works like I fear, I will also like to know if it can be killed and buried. Otherwise I may have to learn how to use Linux, Mac or whatever. I am scared of Cortana!

^ SoftMaker Office 2016 is so expensively priced that I feel certain there is no free update from 2012, no matter how late you bought it.
that would be very unusual, so doesnt seem like a logical conclusion.

At the end, '2012' was sold for less than $20. Surely you don't mean such price should qualify for a FREE upgrade to '2016' - which was the question here. No, you and I just misunderstood each other.

In my opinion, the normal upgrade prices to '2016' are unexpectedly expensive. I upgraded anyway,,, but my default programs are still MS Office 2010 Pro.

i need to add this feature to Screenshot Captor.

I feel as if you took the words right out of my mouth! I promise, if you include this feature, mouser, I will purchase a license for your program...
yes, I was trying to be funny!  :-[

Personally, I like the idea of a see-through magnifying glass better than the solid type; it makes you see more of what's important: I think the above versions all are hiding too much of the surrounding areas.

see-through:

The screenpresso magnifier glass is fine! Different from what I want, but fine. Well, at €30 / $30 it has to be.

many copy-programs have "keep formatting". Uncheck this option, and paste as text, like tomos said.

so, the problem here is not Word, but your clipboard.
995
It has been a mystery to me since long ago: Everybody likes when screenshots include the magnifying glass zoom effect, it is good looking and makes things easier to understand - and yet the feature is not available in any screnshot application for Windows! How can this be? Or do you know one, please? Not even mouser's Screenshot Captor seems to offer this feature!

You are of course already aware, that I am not talking about any magnifying, crosshair selection tool, or magnifying areas in general. And I am not searching for something to be operated with two spreading fingers on the microscopic monitor on a tiny smart phone either, but a program for my desk/lap-top. I am not asking how to magnify, but what application can EASILY create a screenshot like this:

text-in-magnifying-glass.jpg

Please don't tell me about various manuals for doing it myself; I want my screenshot capture program to easily do it for me!!

I am not looking for this GIMP style:

16.jpg

-besides looking wrong, it takes half an eternity to create.

No, this is the kind of result I am looking for:

Magnifying-Glass-Old-l.jpg

Does such a feature exist in any screenshot capture application for Windows? Please, surprise me!  :tellme:

This is Microsoft, so don't think undo is called undo; that would be much too obvious! Maybe it is called "Reverses the most recent action"?

Note about using Disconnect with other filtering add-ons like Adblock Plus:
Disconnect is compatible with other filtering add-ons, but if you want Disconnect to show blocking info, first uninstall then reinstall any other filtering add-ons you have (i.e., Disconnect must be added first).

In Office 365 you have to create those hotkeys yourself:

Somehow the ctrl-C, ctrl-X, and ctrl-V shortcuts were unassigned in Word. I went to file>options>Customize Ribbon, then clicked on the customize button in the lower left where it says "keyboard shortcuts". The category was Home Tab, and the commands were EditCopy, EditCut, and EditPaste. I entered CtrlC, CtrlX and CtrlV respectively.
