General Software Discussion / Re: Best free firewall for Windows?
« Last post by tomos on April 11, 2008, 06:05 AM »
... Isn’t giving a firewall a  because it’s not perfectly compatible with PS tray a bit… extreme  ?? ...

I have a license for Outpost Pro, so I don't have to tolerate any problems.  ;)

The Danes ruled certain parts of Ireland a thousand years ago, so there may be some Irishmen with Danish blood, but I am quite sure that I don't have Irish blood...
reading back in this thread I came across the above -
[possibly/probably off-topic] (depending on Curt's answer :P):-

:tellme: whats with the irish blood (or lack of it) Curt?
BTW I'm one of those irish with viking blood... also BTW, not looking to complain or anything about the rep of the irish, just curious :)

jeez
just trying jettico the last couple of days - it's too much
hundreds of clicks per day, many for software I've added to trusted zone or whatzever they call it (it's gone now I cant check)

not for me,
might try commodo or online-armor

I used use Fritz!Box router which came with a really nice software firewall but now have internet via cable (Kabel.de) and they charging 4€/month for their security "suite" - I'd be wary of it if it was for free :)

And the ability to see two directories side by side is a very key thing to me...

me too,
I often have to compare (esp by date) different versions/formats of files which are in different folders...

I dont know anything about this one myself but just thought I'd throw it out there -
it was recommended in the comments to

I havent tried Essential PIM but can recommend Agenda At Once -
very user friendly,
todo list, schedule/calender and notes can all be clearly visible at one time

General Software Discussion / Re: Magix (Xara) rant...
« Last post by tomos on March 30, 2008, 05:24 AM »
In Xara the term Extrude is a short form of Extra Rude.
So, for example, one click on the extrude-tool icon and the program
pops up a requester bearing an insult and then draws a vector image
on your screen representing a vulgar gesture. (What's really
impressive about this is the speed with which it can insult you!)

thanks for the clarification there cranioscopical ;D

even though I use gmail I still use thunderbird for actually working with my mails

Can you sort your mails by column - by date or by title in gmail ???
search is well and good but if like me you're often unsure exactly what you're looking for :-\

edit/ added emphasis!

superficial comments here only :)

Large (48x48) buttons keep everything easy to use at the top of the browser
No extra clutter - everything is at the top, with a *tiny* statusbar at the bottom.
-wreckedcarzz (March 29, 2008, 12:57 AM)

these seem a little contradictory ?!?
I think it would be nice to have an option to have small (or smaller) icons as well for once people get to know it

I can think of a few people I could recommend this to - I was trying to help someone figure out IE lately (dont know which version - the one without the menu - but I couldnt even figure the $&%§ thing out - I havent really looked closely at it in years...)

there's been a few recommendations for alternatives to Acronis True Image
if you do a search for Acronis you should find a good few threads and try the most recent ones (one looking for a discount i think)

People generally not so happy with newer versions
I bought version 11 and sorry I didnt get something else if only because of the size of it - it's a monster...

I'm just after ordering two KMP ink-packs for my Canon iP6600D
I get an extra ink in the pack that I cant use

It's a replacement cartridge for the Canon PGI-5BK
I dont know what printer it's for - not mine at any rate.
It's pigmented ink
KMP makes a very high quality replacement for Canon inks

You have to use the chip from the original Canon cartridge, but,
once you've done this once it's made very easy to transfer this to next (KMP) cartridge
So,
as of next week I will have 4 of these (2 lying around already) and,
will be willing to post them free of cost to anyone in Europe (only!)

send me a PM is easiest I guess :)

still available
any takers ???

It makes me wonder, though, has anybody here experienced something similar? Some euphoric, or peaceful feeling of being separated from yourself as an individual and whole with all around you? (I'm not asking for details of drug trips.)

I have.

mmm, me too (for brief moments)
if "separated from yourself as an individual" means seperate from the head chatter
and "whole with all around you" means being very aware of everything and feeling like part of it
combined with a feeling of joy (which I reckon at least partly comes from the sense of relief of seperating from all that ... stuff ... that goes on - in my head at least)

I'm not too impressed with "normality" as I know it :) and
I think/hope/believe there is (can be) a balance there - between left and right

not half bad
The "testdrive" is certainly going to confuse some people (=me :-\)

no noise reduction or control over how it sharpens
but some nice things like "fill lighting" and ability to change a selected colour
dont know does it simply save or offer an option of save as (you have to join to save)
once you're editing I liked the interface

hi Graham :) and saintsatinstain

@saintsatinstain, enjoyed your poem(s)
what's the latin ? -
I got an interesting (multilingual) translation from translation-guide.com
looks/reads accidentally a bit poetic too
Quae bibit,
to be dreaming;
quae to be dreaming,
not sin; quae not sin,
holy is;
on account of quae bibit holy is.

PS there's a bit of a haiku thing going on here sometimes - search if you're interested

wow, thats a list

great job Perry
but you havent voted yourself ? (I seem to have been the first..)

I use Dictionary.com when I look up a word (=not often - cause I a lazy beggar as opposed to haveing a huge vocabulary :-[)
It uses/quotes a bunch of other online dictionaries.
I've been so happy with it I've never bothered trying anything else

I voted "other" also because I mainly use German-English-German dictionaries.

These days I use dict.cc
Housetier recommended it here somewhere (I've wanted to make a post about it because they have a wonderful vocabulary "box"  - as you look up words you can add them to the box and learn them. This might prompt me..)
I used to use Leo which is also very good

 well it looks great :)

if you keep going at this rate we wont need to install any other software on our computers ;)
is the current beta or whatever at the main site -
or again I prob should wait a little ?
