Living Room / Re: Yea, I won't be getting an iPad anytime soon

I can't see the 'netbook killer' concept in this.  If positioned as a e-book reader (with a lower price), then I could see it in that market.  Otherwise, it has all of the disadvantages of a MID and none of the advantages.  No multi-tasking in a device this size?  Yeah.. right.

iPad = Newton for the 21st century

that looks good -
do you know are you also easily able to printout invoices &/or save them locally in some usable format ?

Was there supposed to be an *if* in there somewhere?  If so, then yes... just e-mail it to the client and copy yourself- it includes a PDF copy.  You can also e-mail it to yourself only I suppose in order to get a copy- I'm not sure if you can get a PDF copy directly from the site.

The odds of have the correct version of .Net on a random machine (Internet café, at the office, etc) are quite small.

So you consider 80% to be quite small?  I've never tried to run a .NET 2.0 app on any machine and not had it installed.  Even for 3.0 56% is decent penetration less than a year after release... I remember when VB6 had been out for about the same time and had less penetration.

They don't go for very much on eBay... some smart aleck said something about an inexhaustible supply.  They said that about oil back in the day, though, so I'm sure with global warming, there will be a call for extra GUIDs someday...

While cool that you have that, the reason that I as a developer like plug-in systems rather than the ability to add tools is the fact that I don't have to develop a whole framework around the function that I want to add.

I think that's an indication that there is no way.  The most indepth rundown of GMail Tasks I've seen is on http://lifehacker.co...-keeps-it-too-simple

Understood, but I guess I was just thinking of your plugin model where all the post-processing could be moved to the plugin, and this added.  I know, I didn't say that, but I am amazed you can't read everyone's mind  :D

Ooh... screenshot captor would be sooo much better then!  I love software I can extend! :)

Plus it can generate truly portable apps, something C# and VB.Net cannot do

For all intents and purposes, .NET apps are portable as long as you are at a certain iteration of .NET on the machine- which depending on what you're using, it will be.  I'd rather deal with the OS having the framework installed rather than the "DLL Hell" I had to endure with VB6 (shudders).  And the idiosyncracies of the language... the only thing I dislike more is Crystal Reports (double shudders).

I did some more testing, and it appears to be an extension conflicting with the functionality.  The Firefox extension Verify Redirect borks this functionality when installed, even though on other SMF sites, this is not the case.

I'm using a really old version of Xilisoft DVD copying software, and have received no upgrade e-mails, and the software is lean and mean, and just works.  I guess they've changed...

Use aerosol cans as a flame thrower with matches to light up army men (I still remember the trouble I got into for doing that one!)

It took a second to realise you weren't from Northern Ireland  :-[

I guess I left out the word "plastic".

I did several interesting things with fire:
  • Light pinestraw on fire and throw aerosol cans in the fire
  • Mix egg and gasoline in a container, light it, and throw it on army men (I love the smell of napalm in the morning!)
  • Use aerosol cans as a flame thrower with matches to light up army men (I still remember the trouble I got into for doing that one!)

Ok... I guess I was a little obsessed with fire when I was younger...

Ouch.  That was worse than the original joke. :)

DC Website Help and Extras / Mark Selected Read not working
« Last post by wraith808 on January 26, 2010, 10:36 AM »
I make extensive use of the Mark Selected Read function.  I check everything off, and the topics that I want to read, but don't get a chance to, I unselect them as I page down, then when I get to the bottom click Mark Selected Read.  However, it's not working as it used to anymore.  Now it's marking all topics read.  I've seen it a couple of times, and thought it was me, but I just verified this morning that I clicked the right button and had some topics un-selected.

Also check out Portable Application Wrapper in the case that the executable is not in the root directory.  It basically launches any other program when it's launched- very useful when the menuing system you use for portable applications adds apps that are in the root of the apps directory.

Yes!  I get it now... thanks!  The examples aren't as clear as what you've shown (especially since they omit the comma after the method name). :)

Maybe... so the percent sign-space combo to change the method from traditional to expression based goes in front of the first variable that would be affected?  Or all variables?  Or am I missing something still?  I was under the impression that to change the method call to expression based, you added the percent sign-space combo after the method call name (which is apparently wrong), but I'm still not 100% sure I understand where it is to be placed...

I was trying to use expression format, i.e. (from the documentation)

By contrast, the expression method omits the percent signs around variable names, but encloses literal strings in quotes. Thus, the following are the expression equivalents of the previous examples:

Code: AutoIt [Select]
  1. MsgBox % "The value in the variable named Var is " . Var . "."  ; A period is used to concatenate (join) two strings.
  2. CopyOfVar := Var

I already changed it to the manner which you gave after seeing it would work, and getting around my need for expressions in that case.  But why didn't using the expression method work?

Developer's Corner / AHK Help
« Last post by wraith808 on January 21, 2010, 01:04 PM »
I need a little utility program to automate use of some third party software, so I thought this was the perfect time to learn a little AutoHotKey.  But, I'm running into a bit of a problem.  Can someone tell me where I'm going wrong with the following snippet?  Using the latest AHK downloaded from the AHK site.

Code: AutoIt [Select]
  1. ; Variables
  2. _InputDirectory := "\\snlwebtool3\apps\TranslationRepository_test\"
  3. _OutputDirectory := "\\snlwebtool3\apps\TranslationRepository\Incoming"
  4. _PDFConverterPath := ProgramFiles . "\AnyBizSoft\PDFConverter\PDFConverter.exe"
  5.
  6. ; Script Start
  7. FileSelectFile % _SourceFileName, 3, _InputDirectory, "Select the file to be converted.", "Adobe PDF (*.pdf)"

I get the following error:
C:\Dev\.NET20\Document System\SNL.DocumentTranslationService\Scripts\PDFConverter.ahk (21) : ==> This parameter contains a variable name missing its ending percent sign.
     Specifically: % _SourceFileName

It works if I take the % out, but then it's not using the values of the variables, but the variable names.

Thoughts?
