Even if it is real (and I can say with full confidence that it isn't), it's not a mermaid. It's a merman.

I saw this several months ago and it was great! The music selection was very good, too, though if I remember correctly a lot of it was from the Lord of the Rings soundtrack.

Good stuff, thanks for bringing it back to my attention.

Ha! That's great, even with no audio! So funny when he realizes he's turned black and starts dancing and stuff.

I don't have any audio at the library so I didn't hear anything, but that woman judge looked stupefied the whole way through!

I agree with nudone. Time Machine.

I filled out a form for a similar website that was supposed to e-mail me in the future.

The e-mail never came, but I've been getting more spam lately. . .

Sorry I didn't submit anything. :-(

I can't even listen to the latest podcast because the school computers won't let me download anything! I understand (but still despise) not being able to download .exe and .zip files, but .mp3? That's ridiculous.

So far the only thing I've found I can download are Office documents (including PDF) and images.

I might have to take a trip to the city's public library and try my luck there.

And as for people not liking the sound of their voice recorded? I don't know anyone who does. I've worked in a call center where the calls are recorded for QA and everyone has to review a few of their calls each month with their manager and it took me a few months there before I got used to the awful sound of my own voice recorded. I never liked it, but I got used to it eventually, at least in that setting. I still cringe at my own voice when it is recorded for anything else.

I have a question about the filesize of the podcast. It says that this month's podcast is 18 minutes and 20MB. Last months podcast was 40+ minutes and is 20MB. . . How is this possible?

As for switching to OGG, there is a great benefit to the people who distribute music: If they distribute music in MP3 format, they have to pay licensing or royalties or some kind of fee to use the format. Since OGG is open source format, it is free. I have heard that it has a better quality/filesize ratio but I can't personally testify to that. If portable electronic equipment would support OGG, then I would have no problem switching to that format. Unfortunately at this time, OGG is not widely supported away from a PC (to my knowledge) and that leaves MP3 as the next best thing, since it can be played almost anywhere and while it is proprietary it doesn't necessarily have the DMR to prevent it from playing anywhere else.

In other news, I start a new job in a few weeks so maybe I'll get the internet at home again at that time. !yAy!

The topic is our favorite program, right? I have lots of favorite programs depending on what I use them for.

For instance, The Elderscrolls IV: Oblivion has been one of my favorites lately.  ;)

But I also like lots of others for other purposes. I guess I'll try to summarize a few of my most used progams. I'll try to submit the file by Friday at the latest.

What an enjoyable game for a first attempt.  :)

Thanks for the link to Game Maker, Mouser. I'm downloading it. Looks fun. This is probably a lot more complex, but there is a program out there called RPG Maker (Hey, they have a new version! Cool.) designed specifically to make RPGs in the style of SNES and early (2D) Playstation RPGs. Cool fun if you ever take the time to learn how to use the scripting language. The last one I tried was RPG Maker 2003 which had a someone involved scripting language, but from the preview video the XP version looks like it could be much more intuitive.

What's the status?

I saw this one a long time ago. A white couple made a website about how all the black people love them:

I love this one:
Johnny is generous enough to remark upon how "articulate" I am! That makes me feel good!

Best Music Service / Re: Napster not good for casual music purchasers.

I recently read that the latest version of Napster is free and lets you listen to every song the whole way through nine times. No more 30 second previews.

Cool, but AllTunes.com is all I need now.

Heck yes! I'm downloading this.

I'm not one who usually has computer-related anger issues, but trying to download the Vista beta I've found myself storming out of the room a few times wishing I had a full unlimited warranty on everything I own so I could smash something to pieces.

Grr!

A great place I go to practice my Regex to see if they work is Allen's ReReplace. Just enter in some sample text (e-mail headers) and try out the regex and see if it catches all of them.

If GameJackal doesn't work, GameCopyWorld.com should.

Living Room / Re: Do we care about HD-DVD/Blu-Ray?
« Last post by Deozaan on June 08, 2006, 11:30 PM »
Let's just skip to the holodeck already!

I read today in the June 2006 issue of Popular Science magazine about the new 3-D Film capabilities. Apparently it is so much more amazing that previous technology, with no distortion that hurts your eyes or weird colors that your body rejects, and has so much more depth of perception that some famous directors (James Cameron, specifically) have promised to never direct another film in 2D again.

Strangely enough, the magazine had some links to their website which don't seem to work. In fact, the website says the current issue is May 2006. I did a search on the site for "3d movies" hoping to find some shred of evidence to back up my claims and all it returned (that seemed relevant) was this article from March 2005.

There was also something else cool about some strange rain in India in 2001 that was red, and some scientists believe there are cells that don't have DNA in the rain, suggesting that it could be alien life! Sadly, the link in the magazine also does not work on the site. What's the deal?

(also cool is that they made sunglasses for a housefly and a camel fit through the eye of a needle)

Weird... this is the 2nd time I've had rendering issues with Firefox

That happens to me rarely, but when it does I just refresh the page and it's better. It's as if the CSS doesn't load properly or something.

General Software Discussion / Re: A Warning about Thinkall.com
« Last post by Deozaan on June 08, 2006, 01:33 AM »
I didn't notice this thread until just now (I keep trying to tell you that the Unread Messages link isn't working properly) so I typed all this up and didn't want it to go to waste, so I'm posting anyway.

I just tried it out myself (except for entering in credit card information) and nowhere does it say anything about the subscription. There isn't even a clear and easily visible link to the TOS throughout the ordering process. Where it has the checkbox to say you've agreed, no link to TOS even there. You have to go to the bottom of the page (I have to scroll down at 1280x1024 with a maximized window with minimal toolbars) and click on the TOS.

Very shady practice.  >:( >:( >:(

What kind of software is on those CDs? ThinkAll brand? They all have such generic names, and it looks like some of them are freeware anyway, like Thunderbird E-mail, GIMP image editing, and OpenOffice.

Does the Internet BBB actually do anything? Is it worth reporting these guys?

Another interesting thing I noticed is that all of the navigational links at the top of the page do not work on the final page where it asks for your credit card number. They do not want you leaving that page.
9525
Here's another one. My brother actually made this. It's kind of like Air Hockey but with three paddles. The red team actually has more complicated AI so it should score higher.

Preview it first.
