Max Mosely has been fruitlessly pursuing the removal of so-called "not actually a Nazi orgy" photos for years.

If that's not what you're after, PSPad, in column mode, can do what you want.
PSPAD for the win!  Thanks.
Jave was laggy and behaving weird on my computer.  But PSPAD is perfect.

I'm searching for a MicroEd-like (for Bat users) text editor where I can position the cursor in any blank space regardless if there is a space or tab there.  I'm sure the ASCII art creators have something like this, but I can't find one.

Looping back: Wolfram - New kind of Science. Sometimes stuff "just needs to be processed".

Looping back: Wolfram - New kind of Science...hmm...sometimes it's helpful to read up on what's been happening in your field for the last decade or two instead of wasting time independently rediscovering and re-articulating topics in information science that had already gone mainstream (and been discussed to death) about 10 years before your "new" science opus was published?

Both words mean "capable of burning".  No other real difference. In the US manufacturers are required to use only the word "flammable", but any products already labelled with "inflammable" do not have to be changed. It is really just an instance where the prefix "in" is really out of place. "in" as a prefix has two meanings: 1) 'not' or 'lacking' as in inedible, illegal, implausible, irreverent.  2) 'into, in, on, upon' as with income, intake, implant. Most of the time the difference is fairly clear, but not so with "inflammable".

Thought this was funny:

Er...here's an odd thing or question:

Since I previously had a Windows Phone 8, all my contacts were perfectly synced on it.  If I login to the Windows Live site on my computer, the same perfectly synced contacts show up.  Now, one would expect to be able to link those contacts to my desktop Outlook 2010...but such an option doesn't seem to exist!  What the Fu--!  Microsoft won't even play nice with itself?  Geez.

Hehe I was actually glad none of the crap in my MSN/Hotmail/Live account cluttered up my Outlook ... But I know what you mean. Seems like I did find a way to bounce stuff between at one point, but I think it involved the Zune (or whatever it's called) software and individual .vcf contact files.
So how do you keep track of contacts on your phone/computer?  What if you manually add one on the computer?  What if you manually add one on the phone?  Do you keep exporting/importing them with csv files?  What about profile photos?  What about info changing on facebook or linkedin (emails, numbers, etc.)?

For our operation (we have Exchange in-house) The Exchange side keeps everything synced between devices, and I just ignore the MSN/Hotmail/Live account that clutters up my phone. I should have tied it to my work live account, but had a stupid moment and plugged in my personal account instead ... And I never got around to flattening the phone (a requirement that truly does suck) to switch accounts.
Could you describe to me what you mean by flattening the phone?  because my instinct is also to plug in my personal account rather than tying to a work account.  i guess it makes it harder to manage centrally?

Not that long ago, there was a freebie on the BitsDuJour site called: FlowHeater

That software uses the concept of adapters that can make applications "talk" to applications/files that normally are not able to do this. This concept sounds to me like an answer. I downloaded the FlowHeater freebie, as I have played with a trial of Microsoft's BizzTalk (2006) before and liked it. Couldn't afford it though, not for my use case anyway.

The FlowHeater software is also available in a (limited) freeware version, so you could try to see if this concept could work for you or not.
That is actually a really interesting and unique application, I'll try playing around with it.  Thanks.

MS hosted Exchange: $4 per user per month - with a 1 user minimum - and it will sync everything with anything (Android/iLife/etc.) on the fly.
Where can I find more details on the features?  I'm checking out their website, and the lingo is so stupid and corporate bullshit.  How do the contacts get on the android?  is it integrated, or is it a separate app?  How does it work with desktop outlook 2010?  Photos from facebook?

You are seriously being way too kind. It really is total shit. ;)

If you can give me a day or so I can setup a demo acct for you (we're an MS cloud partner) so you can play with a live copy to see if it really does what you want.
THANK YOU!  That would be really awesome of you.

I don't even know what that is.  But it might be worth it!  $48 a year?  I'm in...I've already spent several hours on this.  i think I'm worth a few bucks an hour, no?

Ever since getting an Android phone, I've become obsessed with properly syncing all my contacts.  All the comapnies are fighting each other for properietary control of your life, so they just aren't playing nice with each other.  I've been trying all sorts of apps, hacks, imports/exports, desktop software, plugins.  I'm like 70% of the way there, but still a long way to go.

The goal:
Have a central place where all your contacts are managed.  This place sends (syncs) the information to wherever...Android phone, google contacts, outlook contacts.  All information...meaning profile photos from facebook, business numbers from linkedin, normal contacts from google, etc.

Here's the issue:
Facebook has the best profile photos.
Linkedin has business info other places don't.
Google contacts needs to get the final version of all the info because that's the most reliable way to get it on your phone.
Outlook is a good place to manage things centrally since it's on the desktop and has a rich featureset.
Problem with Outlook is that the scoial connectors to facebook and linkedin aren't really working.
So maybe you can get a third party tool that works with all of them, set it up, sync it to outlook, and outlook syncs it to google.

There's a good google-to-outlook sync.  So if I can get everything in Outlook, that would be great.  This is where I'm currently stuck.

Another more difficult option is using an app on the phone that will sync things, and then getting that information back on the computer, fixing little details there, and sending it back to the phone.  The problem with this is that the apps that do this, do it in a weird way.  They don't necessarily sync the details...it's more like they allow you to see them on the same screen.  In other words, the google contacts still shows just the google contacts info, but on the phone it looks like you have more info because it's reading things from the facebook app.  It's just a trick.

Anyway, ugh.
966
I think Deo is right, the google voice way is the best option currently.  I was trying to basically have my computer use my cell phone service inside the machine, but that is not possible.  the best i can do is receive alerts and notifications from my phone visible on my desktop, and then use google voice to make the call.  i can also do certain hardware things like pair my phone inside the house with a bluetooth adapter that links it to a landline, which then can be connected to the computer and do some additional voip stuff or google voice things.

I would like either "flammable" or "inflammable" removed. Both mean the same thing, which is downright silly IMO. So dump one of them, please! Inflammable is too often misused for nonflammable. Stupid, confusing words!

yea, i agree with this one too.  i even remember having at least 3 conversations in my life plus at least two instructors in school going over this.  lol

"Security through obscurity" is not an effective strategy. Backdoors are only workable in closed systems.

You're probably facing a sysadmin that has invested an entire career in the systems and OS you're currently using. These types will fight tooth and claw to keep anything they don't already know out of the place they're working rather than upgrade their skill set or think outside their box.

Good luck with that crowd...  :-\

Boy...I have been tweaking away on the android.  I have such a sweet setup going currently.  Lots of great previews of emails messsages, etc, all over the place, quick access to contacts, shortcuts for controls.  Man, I miss tweaking.  If Windows Phone allowed this kind of tweaking it would be even better, but sadly they won't anytime soon.  Also, all these things are available because so many people are using android.  So windows has a loooong way to go.  I'm even using a couple of hacks not in the official store, stuff like that is amazing.
970
edit...
I just tried google voice.  Again, if you go on the website with your pc, it will dial a number, but it dials it through your actual android phone.  So I click on dial, then my phone starts ringing, then I use my phone to talk to the other side.  basically, it just dials my phone for me.  big deal.  I want to talk through the computer.
971
Hmmm...I've been playing around with Google Voice, but it's not exactly what I want.  I'll explain...

A bluetooth headset connects directly to the phone and you basically talk through the headset using the phone.  I want something a little different.  I want to speak through the mics connected to my computer and hear the other side through the speakers connected to my computer.  Is there such a thing?  I just want the computer to know I have a cell service and the computer is the headset instead of the actual phone.
972
I'm not having any luck finding this:
I have an Android phone, and when I'm at home, I want to answer calls and make calls from my desktop pc (Windows).  Is there some kind of hardware/software combination that will allow me to do this?  There are a lot of apps for remote access to the phone, so they can dial the phone...but you still have to put the physical phone to your ear (or use it's speakerphone) for the actual calls.  I want to use the mic on my desktop as the phone (with the speakers or headphones).

Good to know. I like the idea of getting a Nexus 5. Problem is my Nexus S is still holding it's own. Only just but not bad enough to justify upgrading.

Seems to be true.  A friend of mine has an 18-month old nexus (samsung?) and it is still very fine.  These Nexus phones really hold up well over the months compared to some other android devices I've used.  And the geek community develops so many things for them, so there's all these fixes for things.

Living Room / Windows Phone 8 (lumia 920) vs. Android 4.4 Kitkat (Nexus 5)
« Last post by superboyac on November 10, 2013, 06:22 PM »
So I've been using the lumia 920 for the past year.  I have my posts on it here in the forums.  Overall, it has a couple of nice features but very underwhelming.

So the nexus 5 came out and i got it.  If anyone is interested in comparisons, let me know.  Here's what I've noticed so far:

Of all the interfaces, I like the Windows one the best with the tiles because they have a lot of interactivity to them.  However, hardly any apps take advantage of them in any kind of helpful way.  The best is probably facebook with the grid of pictures it shows.  But it would be nice to get more useful stuff there.  Windows also has the best integration of contacts of all the other phones (ios, android).

But Android as you all know is the one that lets you do the most with the phone, and just they way you want it.  Android has widgets which is what tiles do in windows.  The widgets are not as smooth as tiles, but there are so many kinds that you'll find something satisfactory.  I can also use all sorts of apps, transfer files, root, customize...way more than other phones.

The Nexus phone is fast and light and awesome.  The biggest headache so far was spending hours getting all my contacts organized properly with all the services.  After that, this thing is a joy.  Windows is far too locked down to have fun with it.  Iphone is the same, but still much more open than windows.

Anyway, that's the update so far.  It's a nice phone, I don't miss the lumia at all.  in fact, it's quite liberating.  MS needs to get it's ass in gear, cmon.  Android is providing the windows experience that we are all used to, and MS has gone completely the other direction in making the most restrictive, over simplified phone operating system on the planet.  Geez.

Might be really cool to do a collaborative antimalware info resource for the community here. There's enough of us at DC that either regularly need to deal with this for clients, or are individuals with some serious real world experiences gained from fixing their own PCs. The DC hive mind should have a lot of good vetted info and tips to share in a more organized manner than just random forum postings.

Ideally it would be a small wiki since it would need to be editable and expandable without it becoming a three mile long thread with dozens of unlinked posts, many of which will become outdated fairly rapidly.

Thoughts anybody?
Would it be similar to this idea I had a while back:
https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=25200.0

I wanted to make a DC-approved list of software for keeping the computer secure, using as many freeware tools as possible.  No BS, no marketing hype...just specific software and the specific type of protection it is the best for.
