General Software Discussion / Re: Help needed with computer problem
« Last post by mouser on May 24, 2013, 05:46 PM »
I'm always suspicious of RAM with these kinds of symptoms.
Sometimes it's just a matter of removing the ram and re-seating just one stick at a time.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Portable mode
« Last post by mouser on May 24, 2013, 11:45 AM »
not braindead -- your original points are still valid -- i should add some variable replacements to refer to the current drive for portable use.

it's just that on a new default portable install it should come up with "Screenshots" as the screenshot folder which is exactly what you wanted -- you just confused it when you put in your full path explicitly.

In the portable mode try just setting screenshot directory to: Screenshots

Please do install the new version, and let me know if the problem remains.
9405
I see what you mean.  I don't think it's a new thing.. I think it has to do with CHS starting the focus in the search/filter edit box, and it must have behaved like this for quite some time.

Can you give me a little more background? Is this your first install of CHS? Or did you just upgrade and you're suddenly getting this error?
Are you using the portable version or the installer? What operating system?
9407
A big thank you to Jesper and Hamradio and others for helping me test the new version and track down CHS bugs.
9408
Bugfix update -- could be important for anyone using an app that has not behaved well with CHS (or other clipboard tools) in the past.

v2.18.01 - May 18, 2013
  • [BugFix] Several bug fixes to try to handle applications that CHS has had trouble capturing from in the past (Zim Desktop) and that generate excessive clipboard messages, and to avoid delayed captures in Open Office / Libre Office due to a bug in those programs.
  • [BugFix] Fixed disk-not-in-drive error and error creating initial database lock file that could happen on some startups.
  • [Feature] Added option to check for updates at startup.

Is this a good time for me to plug the new background Patch tool in Screenshot Captor?

The control I use for my toolbars and menus (at least in Screenshot Captor) is Toolbar2000 (Screenshot Captor is written in C++ Builder).

General Software Discussion / Re: Desktop Coral position keeps moving
« Last post by mouser on May 22, 2013, 12:15 PM »
It may be that it's just not saving the settings on system shutdown.  Try changing dock position, then exiting Desktop Coral, then restarting.

I think it should be up to each person to set their targets -- but everyone should come up with something concrete they so don't cheat.
Write down your 30 day exercise plan and keep a checklist to keep you on track.

Thanks, I'm adding those and a couple of other guidelines now.

If I review the screenshot in SSC it shows the shadow but the selection box is around the image, not the image + shadow. I assume this is why the shadow gets stripped off.

you may have found a bug -- let me check and try to fix.

I agree we could use a "Forum Guidelines" topic somewhere.. Though there is so much info scattered everywhere on the forum and so much to read, i'm not sure we would benefit from yet another sticky post that people need to read before getting started.

Still, it's an excellent idea to have a thread somewhere where we can point people to when a question arises, that summarizes all guidelines..

I've started one here: https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=34981

Site/Forum Features / Some guidelines and rules about posting on the forum
« Last post by mouser on May 20, 2013, 08:25 PM »
This post will be update with forum guidelines and rules as they evolve.

Basic rules of the forum:

  • Be respectful to everyone, even if they don't return the favor.
  • Do not post any spam advertising.  If you want to tell us about a program or product that you personally are involved with, that's ok, as long as you disclose your relationship to the program/product and do not simply copy and paste some info being posted on other places.
  • When including URLs, do not use URL shorteners; if you really want to use an affiliate link, state that you are doing so clearly and why.
  • Don't link to external images.. instead, ATTACH the image to your post -- that way it won't get lost if the original site goes offline.
  • Controversial topics of politics and religion should be avoided on the forum unless it is an issue directly impacting technology.

A few more guidelines:
  • Avoid the use of colored / largefont text except in rare cases where you feel it is really needed -- colors and large fonts can be distracting.
  • If you feel compelled to use a signature that is added to every post you make -- make it as minimally tall as possible to avoid creating a distraction.
  • Try to choose good topic titles that will help others identify the contents of your post when searching.
  • Avoid "flooding" the forum with a large number of posts all at once -- if you have several "news" or "technology" items to tell us about, consider combining them into one or two "news roundup" threads.
  • Attached images should not be too large; 800x600 is a good limit unless there is a real reason to use larger
