Living Room / Re: Tony vs. Paul - The Coolest Stop Motion Video Ever Made
« Last post by Deozaan on December 02, 2006, 05:02 AM »
;D It's curious, i have the exact oposite problem. I can stream videos from youtube flawlessly, but most of the time, i can't stream videos from google video :(
I guess that must be related to our ISPs having better or worse connection to each of them.

I have a friend who lives on the opposite side of the country who also shares my hatred (which is actually a very strong and exaggerated word in this scenario) for YouTube for the same reasons. It doesn't stream fast enough for us while most all other YouTube-like sites are fine.

I really like this idea. I don't know how much help I'll be--I stopped watching the news five years ago and never looked back for this very reason!--but I'll be on the lookout for happy news stories.

I don't really know any current events other than what I hear from word-of-mouth, but sometimes ignorance truly is bliss!

I hate YouTube! Their compression sucks or something because the videos never stream fast enough. I rarely have a problem with other similar video streaming sites like Google Video.

Google needs to kill YouTube. They bought it, now put it to sleep.

Awesome video, by the way. I saw most of the techniques used in a video several months ago, but the music was great too!

I just found this website which lets you pick specific requirements you want from an engine and it will list all of them that meet that description. Right now they have 260 engines in their database:

I like how when you mouse over the headline it shows a thumbnail of the site it links to. That's cool!

Oh, and trackballs have to be controlled by the thumb for me. The ones under different fingers are also just awkward to me.

What I want is a trackball with the side scroll option, back/forward buttons and a SMOOTH scroll wheel (You know, instead of feeling like a "click" when scrolling on it).

I need to feel the wheel clicks. Scroll wheels without them just feel weird to me. They do have smooth scroll wheels out there, but I don't know if they are on a trackball.

are there any double-ball trackballs?  one for cursor and one for scrolling? now that would be interesting!

Double trackball would be cool for 3D stuff. One ball for the cursor and one ball to move the camera or an object in 3D around on its base axis.

I got a trackball years ago for precision in graphics editing. Back when optical mice were still fairly new. I was tired of the ball sticking, ruining my line drawings. So I got the trackball (optical!) and loved everything about it except that because it still uses a ball, it will still get gunky and stick or slow the movement down.

Sadly it was eventually stolen and when I tried to replace it I bought one from Logitech's website (three years ago) but the ball doesn't seem to move across the screen very fast. In windows I can change the speed, but in games it seems to revert back to the same old slow speed which means I have to move my thumb a lot to get the cursor across the screen (1280x1024). Eventually I bought Logitech's MX1000 Wireless Laser mouse, which is great, except that I have to move my hand again, and since my desk space is very limited right now, I'm actually using my trackball anyway.

I love trackballs--the only thing I don't like is that the ball's track can get dirty.

Logitech's Canada site lists some trackballs: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/productlist/CA/EN,crid=2141,categoryid=6

I got a 13. For the first time in my life I'm normal! It's interesting that just a couple years ago some of my answers would have been much different and my score would have been higher. I guess that's a sign that I've become more mentally stable. Hooray!

The question about whether or not I was fascinated by dates was tricky for me. I wasn't sure what kind of dates it meant. I am truly fascinated by dating--the act of going out with/getting to know better a member of the opposite gender--but not so much with the edible dates or dates on a calendar.

I figured it meant calendar dates, but it was amusing to consider answering the question for the fruit or getting-to-know-you types.

This one looks cool because it's just under a cubic inch in size and holds up to 2GB. It has radio fm/am and voice recording and plays MP3, WMA and WMA DRM. Connects to PC via USB and is just like a flash drive. You can store any kind of file on it.

Color screen, but only one color. :)

Those games are awesome. I like the shark one better than the guy shooting people one, and I never played Typing of the Dead, but I remember when it came out.

Maybe robbers try to steal Cody's coins and you have to type words to have the police catch them or something like that?

Cody the Bounty Hunter!

I'm currently working on a Flash game and I've come across a bug I'm not sure how to resolve. I'd like to have someone help me look at my source and see if we can track it down.

Please send me a PM or come into the IRC channel and we can talk about it.

Thanks!

Too slow. Music is annoying. Sound effects are annoying. Graphics are jaggy.

Define recent... Four years in Korea left me a StarCraft nut (1995?) and I love the three Combat Fligth Simulators by Microsoft (last one released in 2003).

I still play StarCraft. Spent a few all-nighters with my room mate recently. Fun stuff.

Recent? I haven't been too impressed with recent PC games. I'm waiting for Spore to be the next big thing on PC.

I really like World of Warcraft (but that came out in 2004 if I'm not mistaken) but there seems to be a fundamental flaw with MMOs that keeps me from staying interested in them for long, so I've quit WoW. The game I've enjoyed the most that has come out this year for PC would have to be The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Why? It's like a medieval Grand Theft Auto except you can actually do good things as well as bad things. Totally open gameplay. You don't need to do the main storyline. You can go around and kill just about anybody (if you wanted to) or steal just about anything (if you wanted to) or you can obey the law and still enjoy the game. I've played the game for probably a cumulative of over 120 hours and have barely touched the main storyline. It's fun! And everything I didn't like about The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is fixed in Oblivion.

Only place I can remember seeing photographs so beautiful and serene as this one is as the background for the Flash version of VAST's website. Each section of the site has a different beautiful background with subtle animation. Plus the music is incredible, too!

Hooray for VAST!

am i the only person that played halo that thought it sucked?
ps.
next time vrgirl is online, ask her to tell you about the Halo joke i played on her when she was working at Microsoft.  ;D

I don't think it sucked, but I don't think it is as magnificent as every other Xbox owner, apparently. I liked the coop mode, though. More games need that.

if there were enough interest to use unreal tournament i'd make the effort to make a 3d version of cody to run around in the game - maybe a mod could be used that ties in with chasing cody around the maps or cody chasing everyone else?

Yeah, we'll go around shooting Cody stealing the donations back!
