... but it's nothing like LyX if that's what your worried about. ;)
that sounds negative ...

You might try looking at LyX: http://www.lyx.org/Home : :Thmbsup
that sounds positive :tellme: ??

2cranioscopical
Try maybe this one:
http://www.latexeditor.org/

It requires some "coding" but it was real pleasure to learn the syntax with it. I  remember how I was pissed that I found this little guy AFTER I wrote my thesis using "Win-something" shareware ;) LED is the best LaTeX editor I've ever used.
-fenixproductions (August 22, 2008, 06:23 PM)
when you say "coding", do you think a non-coder could manage without staying up all night or something?!!!  :-)

to clarify, I'm looking for a programme that can produce a pdf with embedded fonts (whether opentype or TrueType, document mainly type -layout important- and possibly with some illustrations) and without huge learning curve. I've heard and read about Tex, but you know the way, just reading doesnt really help sometimes ...
(Thanks :))

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Screenshot aliases using MiniCap
« Last post by tomos on August 23, 2008, 03:32 PM »
Bit of a shameless bump this, but are there any requests? It's pretty easy adding stuff yourself, but if you've made new minicap-aliases why not share them here and I'll include them in my "official" minicap alias!

is it possible to do a screenshot of
Delayed screen capture (4 secs)  |  Wait 4 seconds before engaging capture of current ACTIVE WINDOW ?
i.e. I could select this option and then for example alt+tab & that would be "snapped" after the 4 seconds
? :)

* JD for important files
...
* Dropbox for sharing or when I need versioned files

Change, I'm curious why you favour Dropbox over JungleDisk for versioned files (I havent used Dropbox myself - I have "applied" but havent heard from them *)

I'm using Filehamster to version my important files - then I backup the Filehamster versions so it prob wouldnt make much difference to me (at the moment) but as I say - curious

* [edit] justice just offered me an invite -thanks!

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: hotkey to toggle left/right mouse buttons
« Last post by tomos on August 22, 2008, 04:00 AM »
From this thread using 2 mice - can I have different settings for each? it looks like I cant have different settings for each. Deozaan & nite_monkey came up with this idea:

... Would there be some way that you could make an AHK program that would send the left mouse click when you physically right clicked, and vice verso

it would have to be able to differentiate between the two mouses which I suspect might be impossible but it would be great
Any takers out there ?? or ideas on the subject ??

Another idea would possibly be an AHK shortcut that would toggle the mouse settings to be lefty or righty.

IDEA is: to have a hotkey that would toggle settings for left and right mouse buttons
Ideally one hotkey would toggle settings but if that's not possible two different hotkeys would be fine
I was thinking RightAlt+M would be good (this is usually, but in my experience not always, same as Control+Alt+M but I'm sure you all willknow better than me :))

So I suppose, hotkey makes LeftButton=Right, Right Botton=Left, & then vice-versa
Could call it Ambidexterous-Mouser (seeing as "mouser" is hot-topic at the moment :p) or something like that :D

How to Become More Time Conscious

Everybody thinks they’re working hard-yet most people actually only use 60% or less of their available work time. In a Microsoft study done in 2005, more than 38,000 people in 200 countries were asked about their individual productivity. It turned out that though they were arriving at work five days a week, they were only usefully using three days.
http://www.whakate.c...more-time-conscious/

nothing particularly new here but a good summary of GOE / GTD / GED / whatever :) with good observations about over/under-estimating time required to get things done
A sort of a refresher essay,
so ...
any comments about where you are now re "all this kind of thing" ?

That sounds more like a workaround than real grouping. I can immediately see a problem, how to have groups sharing particular job?
agreed

Is all the manual's explanation on file / folder settings also applied to those files/folders being zip in a zip package?
On right side, create a new folder each time
Check Existence Of Destination File Again During Copying
Clear Archive Flags
here's the relevant options

SFFSzippackage.png

Just a quick clue please:
It is possible to create a job, where each run will create a new xxx(n).zip on the right side, n is increment counter and had SFFS control how big n can go. That is if all the xxx(n).zip of a job are backup to a destination folder say Mybackup, I can set n=52, so Mybackup will holds no more than 52 zips and when n hits 52, that is after the xxx(52).zip is created, the n roll back to 1 and start all over?
Yes
again maybe easiest to show options

sffsVersioning.png

when you say xxx(n).zip if you mean you want the number of the increment to show in the name e.g. General(23).zip - No
Cant help you much more, today at any rate

4. Able to group backup jobs and act (backup/ restore) base on the group.

in SFFS, in order to do this you have to give the backups you want to group a prefix (with a space after it), e.g.
J Appbackups
J Paperwork
J Photos

They will then show as
J
   Appbackups
   Paperwork
   Photos

and can be selected as a group by ticking "J"

Re the interface & getting to know the options, your best bet is to create a backup(Profile), & go through all the advanced settings - then you'll have a fair idea if it suits or not
or maybe to have a look at documentation at their website

cmpm - Titan got some favourable comments here lately

Hi Tomos,

I can't use Synchronizer type of utility, in fact, I also don't consider them as backup utiliy.
There is a very fundamental different between Synchronizing and conventional backup (be it incremental or not). In fact, I do need to create full backup with rolling set numbers. i.e. every backup is full set, but the utility keeps a fix/max number of backup set.

I did evaluate a synchronizer type of utility (well, that was when I really desperate), FileBack PC, I like the interface so much, to me it scroces 100% for my 3), 4) and 5) requirements.

I just couldn't understand, the backup utility world seems to still stay in the 80s.
How nice it will be if Backup4All supports unicode and registry keys backup or I were the interface designer of Genie Backup Pro...<sigh>!

Btw, Tomos, I forgot to tell you, Genie backup manager pro does support registry keys backup.

dont be misled by the name - it's a full backup utility (except for reg key :p)
do go have a look
does incremental (edit/ thats the wrong word, "versioning" they call it - i.e. like regular scheduled backup - new version each time if file changed), partial file update (ok, that's just for synching), backs up to Amazon S3 - it's good, check it out

tslim
have you tried Super Flexible File Synchronizer
I use it in a very basic way so just dont know if/what it covers on your list (except doesnt cover the regristry but I think you're going to have to use something specialised for that no matter what)

from the help
Alternate Data Streams

Support for Alternate Data Streams is not in its final state at this point. Alternate Data Streams are copied along with the files when using the Windows API Copying function (see Profile Settings - Files/More).

When you click on th Alternate Data Stream checkbox on this tab sheet, you will be presented with a rarely used option. If you have a server with a special Macintosh file share and want to back up the files to a drive that does not support Alternate Data Streams, then this option will allow you to split the resource forks into separate AppleDouble files.

if you do a serch there's a good few threads here + a review but it's had a major update since the review
Prob best to try it out if you havent already

http://www.superflexible.com/
only thing I would miss would be a forum
but the author is very helpful (& prompt) with answering any queries

EDIT/ there's an option to follow hard-links or not

I forgot I had used Amazon payment to purchase JungleDisk - just in case you do the same it simply shows up as AMZN PMTS+reference number on your CC bill
-
first I was thinking OMG Amazon S3 is much more expensive than I thought (I only have 400MB or so uploaded yet) but it turns out the monthly bill for that was ... eh...
20(US)cents = 13 euro-cents = one happy camper :)

nitemonkey, didnt have any luck with your route unfortunately
The Logitech mouseware soft takes over the Control Panel>Mouse options
It didnt respond when I plugged in the other mouse, either it didnt recognise it or maybe something to do with the fact the second mouse had already been connected & gone through the add new hardware wizard thingy

Living Room / Re: using 2 mice - can I have different settings for each?

As far as I know, the answer is no. Unless you wanted to open up your mouse and change the wiring around on the inside.
Actually, I don't know why people just don't design left handed mice/mouses/mieces that way. I'm brilliant!  :graduate:
if I plug in left AND right-handed mice, both do work as would be expected
      LEFT                           RIGHT
context|click                   click|context

my problem is the lefthanded mouse - I like the design, think I'll stick with it, but find the top(right)button too short & therefore harder to use so I wanted to change it's behaviour to opposite of default.
Unfortunately, as said above that's changes the right mouse too

I wish that it was possible to have double independant mouse ipointers on the screen as well :) Then one could use 2 mouse simultaneously!
did you see the thread linked to end of first post (no solutions though)

I have used two mice before but they were both righthanders
I was happy enough using the righthand settings with my left hand - in fact I've gotten very used to that...
anyone got any ideas there?

With dexterity such as that I think you should have entered the Olympic Mousing event.  :)
-cranioscopical (August 19, 2008, 07:27 PM)
a bit like Jimi Hendrix learning the guitar by turning it upsidedown so he could play it left handed (I wish) - when I tried to change my ambidextrous logitech mouse to lefthanded settings I just couldnt adjust to it - that's probably part of my problem now...

I know that the cd that came with my keyboard/mouse combo (that logitech claims doesn't exist) allows me to configure the mice separately I believe. it would detect the mouse plugged into the ps/2 port, and when I plugged in my wired usb mouse it detected it and asked if I wanted to configure it, so I am guessing that each one would have different button configs. The software that came with my combo is itouch (keyboard media keys), and mouseware.
thanks nitemonkey, I have a couple of PS2 adapters in a drawer here somewhere so will try that, also
I've downloaded mouseware from cnet, my logitech mouse came with software called setpoint, could try that too :-\

I have used two mice before but they were both righthanders
I was happy enough using the righthand settings with my left hand - in fact I've gotten very used to that

I just today got a lefthanded vertical mouse.
Partly because of what I saying above & partly because of the mouse design, I find it easier to use the lower button as the click button (this being the opposite of default settings)
I'm now also using a right handed mouse to help ease the work for my poor suffering left arm (suffering anyway but also finding it strenuous adjusting)
Problem is when I change the settings on the left mouse, it changes the settings on the right too
This is still the case when I install the vertical mouse driver - I havent tried installing Logitech drivers (for the older mouse) but iirc that's the same in that it just ties into windows mouse settings (?)

I'm not sure what to do - whether to stick to default left mouse behaviour & hope I get used to it ..
or
other IDEA
is to find some way to control the button settings individually on each mouse -

anyone got any ideas there?

PS decided against posting in Drawing with 2 mice cause that's a different idea again - having two independent cursors/arrows

FYI, Version 0.9.23.6 is coming soon with many interesting improvements:

   1. New VBScript editor
   2. VBScript code separated in system, user and database
   3. Improved web clipping
   4. Dated backups
   5. Bug fixes of course, and...
   6. Portability! You'll be able to download a zip file, copy the content to an USB thumb drive, copy your datafiles and GO! Any Win XP or Vista PC, no installation required, no admin rights. Now, you'll finally be able to bring SQLNotes to work with you...

sounds great Pierre

trying to check the SQLN forum this morning
one page has loaded the banner on top but nothing else (& it thinks it's done),
the aggregated forum page gives this message (after about 5mins)

Connection Interrupted

maybe you're working on it or something,
just thought to let you know anyways
