2.0.0.11 has been stable for me. I use it both at work and at home. I haven't heard anything mentioned about it crashing around the web either.

Here is version 0.0.0.3 of Click2LogIt. It just has bare minimum functionality at this point.

  • No installer. Just run it.
  • By default the log file will be named My Click2LogIt File.c2l in your My Documents folder.
  • You can right-click on the tray icon to change the log file.
  • Clicking on the tray icon will log the current date and time and sound a quick beep.

I will start adding the other stuff you asked for.

Please report bugs or request features on my mantis server. (You will need to create an account with a valid email address.)

I have already got this close to finished. I check back here and see that you have updated your description.  :P No problem. Give me a few minutes to get this up for you to start testing.

When choosing between these two types of programs, students should consider their own learning styles and preferences, future and short-term goals, cost, and greater academic plan. Both academic routes can get you a job in the game industry, but what you'll have to do to get there will vary

I think the article does a good job of pointing out the ups and downs of both options. And as the quote above demonstrates, they aren't promoting one over the other. It is a balanced piece asking the readers to choose themselves based on their own preferences.

lanux128, I don't remember exactly how to do it in version 7 and I am running version 8 and a beta of 9 so I can't check on my computer. However, I believe that it is the same in 7 as it is in 8 and 9. All you need to is to edit the profile and set the hotkey. You can create multiple profiles and each can have its own hotkey.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Automise Lite - 70% off - Bits Du Jour
« Last post by tinjaw on December 10, 2007, 06:40 PM »
Automise is a tool that is very useful, but only when it is used in a manner that it was intended. Automise is something you use to automate processes that you would otherwise have to do manually and often. If it is just something you need to do a few times, there really is no benefit. It would take you just as long to automate and test it as it would to just do in manually a few times. However, if you are looking to automate system administration tasks without having to write a bunch of scripts by hand or prefer to deal with these things in a more visual way, then Automise, and similar tools, are worth their weight in gold.

johnk,

Ok, I'm at home now. Let's see...

  • GUI Automation Actions
  • Windows Event log
  • Network Shares
  • System Information
  • Name Server Lookup
  • Generate Random Number
  • Beyond Compare Script
  • WGET Action
  • String and Path Manipulation actions

Although there are several things that aren't in the Lite version that I really want, like Stack & Queue actions, Virtualization Software actions, NTFS Junction points actions, Registry and INI actions, and Active Directory actions.

But beggers cannot be choosers.

wraith808: They are as different as black and white. Automise and DirectAccess have no overlap in what they do. Automise is used to automate entire processes with decision tree logic and much more. DirectAccess just invokes programs and substitutes text.

johnk: It depends on what you will use it for, but on that list of "What's New in Automise 2" I found stuff I liked. Unfortunately I am at work right now and for some reason the site is blocked, so I can't see the list of what is new and what isn't in the Lite version.

I was one of the folks that grabbed a copy of Automise (1) for $19.95. Today I scooped up a copy of Automise 2 Lite for $14.95. It is definitely worth the price.

General Software Discussion / Re: Is it time to move beyond Cygwin/X?
« Last post by tinjaw on December 10, 2007, 08:29 AM »
I have a very old version of StarNet XWin-32. I think it is version 4 or something close. I recently got an email that they are up to version 9 with all kinds of bells and whistles and a USB flash drive version. I would love to get it, but I can't justify the price for as little as I use X11.

As Cygwin/X is minimalist, I was curious to know if there is something that is freeware and has more features than Cygwin/X. I should also check out NoMachines NX. I have seen it around, but have not used it myself.

Cygwin/X hasn't been updated since January 2004. It looks to be dead. What are you folks using these days to connect to an X session from a WinXP box to a *nix box?

General Software Discussion / Looking for Norton Ghost Image Repair Tool
« Last post by tinjaw on December 09, 2007, 10:45 AM »
I have just copied 20 CDs worth of .GHO files on to my hard drive. These are all parts in a backup of a hard drive from 2002 using Norton Ghost. When I attempt to use Ghost Explorer it asks me to insert CD 19. All the files are already on the hard drive and it appears the files form cd 19 are corrupted. Is there a tool to repair the ghost image or salvage what I can from the rest of the backup?

wandas, nogojoe,

I have modified HowLong2It (now v 0.0.0.9) to use the international date format of yyyy/MM/ddd. Please let me know if this fixes that issue.

tinjaw, I tried your solution & it didn't work.
[snip]
I looked in the registry & this is the key TweakUI created:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
"ShowDriveLettersFirst"=dword:00000004

That's what I said to do. Glad to see you got it working.

Dexpot looks nice. I installed it and found out that it cannot handle my destop setup. I run a laptop with an external monitor.

Dexpot treats it like a 1280x800 screen and apps will all show up on top of each other.

What does this SnagIt do better than ScreenShotCaptor?

Nothing.

[Mouser, the usual donation should cover this.]  :P

On a side note, if there is a solid virus scanner that can be run from a usb/portable drive, could someone give that a mention, cuz that would be handy for when I use other peoples computers and move files around.\

I use ClamWin Portable.

My little green friends in the basement have been riding shotgun on my adventures for decades.  They keep me calm, relax my dysfunctional back, and open my otherwise shuttered and shackled mind, to the possibilities.

You have alien masseurs in your basement? cool.
