Living Room / Re: Renaming query: how to keep e.g. 1a, 1b when renumbering
« Last post by tomos on January 30, 2018, 02:50 PM »
I added source folderpath to it as well as the target filepath -- or should I simply run the ahk file from the source folder?
EDIT// I also tried just adding path of source.txt to source - no joy there either //EDIT

I added a source.txt file to the source folder, with a list of files as sorted e.g.
0869.jpg
0871a.jpg
0880.jpg
0886.jpg
0889.jpg
0902.jpg

When I run the ahk script, nothing happens (I know it does get 'read', as I mistakenly didnt copy the last bracket and got an error message about that -- no more feedback once that was corrected)

Hi Lintalist
many thanks --
first, I dont know will this work in the sense I want it to follow a particular sort in the file manager (I'm afraid I didnt emphasise that aspect initially)

I saved above as AHK file, added correct paths:
Code: Autohotkey [Select]
  1. source:=A_ScriptDir "G:\User\xxxx\Family\Scans\Final_Sorting\xyz\"
  2. target:=A_ScriptDir "G:\User\xxxx\Family\Scans\Final_Sorting\"

and ran the script, and nothing happens.

I notice:
when I copy from your code from your post, there is a tab-width before each line --
wondering could this be causing it to fail ?

Dont have it currently to test but something like Bulk Rename Utility could be set to ignore/not touch after X positions, so after 4 in your case. Not sure if logic would work but it might.

I can do that as well with dopus Wildcard rename -- but it then

AFAICS Bulk Rename doesnt recognise that
0810
0810a

should become e.g.
0001
0001a

but will rename them as

0001
0002a

I see dopus also does Scripts:
  • VBA script
  • JScript

and the regular rename dialogue

Files (photos) are named numerically, but some are with 'a' & 'b' appended to indicate front & back of same photo.
I want to renumber them sequentially, but again the 'a's and 'b's  use the (new) number twice.

e.g. currently:

0822.jpg
0822a.jpg
0823.jpg

  • All files have leading zeros i.e. four digits in the number.
  • Occasionally files have text after the number, this always following an underscore e.g.

1234_text_added_here
=> there should be no spaces (I can ensure this if necessary by first replacing space with underscore)

As said I want to renumber them sequentially, but again the 'a's and 'b's use the same (new) number e.g. the above list would become

0001
0001a
0002

I would also like to be able to indicate the starting number to use.

I am using directory opus which allows regex (of which I know absolutely nothing).
Dopus's wildcard rename allows sequential renumbering, but I lose the 1a 1b (they would simply become 1a, 2b, etc.
[edit] I dont think dopus wildcard rename can cope with stripping the number & adding a new one -- I would use a different renamer, but I have sorted the files manually in Dopus -- so I'm left with the regex option or one of the scripts mentioned in next post -- at this stage I dont care about losing the 1, 1a, -- simple sequential renumbering would be fine [/edit]

TIA,

Top left corner of the viewer panel in SC, there's a little tickbox for closing the thumbnail panel. Can probably be closed via menu as well (but unsure there, currently on phone)

I used auto-complete on this panorama. Looks better, doesn't it?
What's autocomplete again?
Is that the auto fill of the edges after creating panorama?

Does it not show what's using the rest of the 8GB ram being used?

You presumably know this: mouseover &/or press Enter on (e.g.) the svchost will give more info

Tschick a.k.a. Goodbye Berlin
German teenage road movie

I had already read the book a couple of years ago, they gave it the dubious title of 'Why we took the Car' in English (I read it in deutsch so cant vouch for the translation). Loved the book, and really enjoyed the movie, saw it in the cinema which helps.
Gets an imo well deserved 7.1 on imdb

excuse-me tomos

what is right-click tray icon ?
hi erze26,
I wasnt fully clear there:

tray icon = the icon in the taskbar on the right hand side
right-click = click the icon with the right mouse button => that menu shows, as shown in my last post

thanks mouser, lainB and tomos

1- screencaptor is installed and is already minimized.
2 - Then i press the key  prt sc on my keyboard
3 - then i see the result of the capture and it proposes me different possible operations
4 - i choose "save image as" then i save it in a folder by pressing the key ENTER.

My real question is about this line number 4

it happens once, and I don't know how, that the capture was automaticly saved just pressing the key PRT SC. To be clear, i press only once PRT SC and the capture was done and directly saved, instead of two operations in the normal way.

I hope to be clear enough.

that's clear :up:

There are various ways to change the preferences:
right-click tray icon > Preferences
or
again, via the right-click tray icon, there are post capture options in that menu

These are my settings: I dont get asked anything, and the file gets auto-saved:

Thanks for this review Iain :Thmbsup:

7.0 How it compares to similar products:
There are apparently some similar/alternative tools, but none that I have come across match Picasa3 for comprehensiveness or accurate face recognition and metadata cataloguing/searching.
just for the record:
it does not read the 'Comment' field (as seen below in Windows Explorer) -- I dont know if other apps do read that field (but seems like one that should be read).
It does read the 'Subject' field.

just pressing the key print screen, i want to capture the sreen and save directly the picture
definitely need lots more info:

  • are you using the Screenshot Captor [SC] software?
  • does pressing the PrintScreen key take a screenshot?
  • if you have SC installed, have you opened its main window?

just in case the answer to (1) is no -- then the solution is to install it:

ExifTool might do this automatically? I haven't tested it but see the following thread:
http://u88.n24.queen...dex.php?topic=8154.0

And get the executable from:
http://owl.phy.queen...u.ca/~phil/exiftool/

To clarify: What the command-line ExifTool will do is read the description from the json file(s), and write it to the metadata attached to the picture(s). Then you'll have to find another program that lets you view them together (though this should be easy).

for the long term, this would be the ideal solution :Thmbsup:
I dont know when I'll get time to try it (up to my eyeballs at the minute, or maybe my sister might give it a go).

Thanks for the tips people --

Does Picasa still sync with Google Photos?
That's a good thought (and I don't know the answer), because the description typed into Picasa does wind up stored in the photo metadata. I don't know if Google Photos uses that metadata when uploaded; what I read indicates it might not (or maybe keywords do but descriptions don't).

I dont know I/they want to sync with google photos, will have to see what that involves, whether it can be a limited sync etc.
Re the downloaded phot + json file:
unfortunately Picasa does not read nor find the json file.

is there any software that will show the photo and read the info in the [related] json file simultaneously?

haven't found anything in a quick search,
but I guess one could use two viewers, one for each file, and manually move to next file on each viewer.

hi Peggy77, and welcome to donationcoder :up:

That site is nice and clean looking. I'm always curious about different careers -- I know the very basics of html, and know next to nothing about databases. Did you study that combination, or learn on a job?

Re the graphics, when you say develop your skills, do you mean technical, or design (or both). Again wondering, would you do a course then, or learn en-route.
I use graphics software (photoshop illustrator), but for semi-technical illustration. Tried my hand at doing a couple of small graphics jobs for friends, and realised I either dont have a natural talent, or it requires work/(study?) before you learn to create something good. Also created one simple website -- wasn't really happy with how it looked. (It never came to be anyways.)

Don't know if it'll download any added photo info but you can try Google data download (Link - need to sign in).

You can export and download your data from the Google products you use, like your email, calendar, and photos.

that did work!
(the info I had that it was un-downloadable was from 2016)

The info comes through as a .json file e.g.
Photo-name.jpg.json
Spoiler
Code: Text [Select]
  1. {
  2.   "title": "1936 xxxx.jpg",
  3.   "description": "1936 Jack and Neil, 1st and 2nd from left. Back of photo: \"xxxx - June 28-1936\". Additional info here please.",
  4.   "url": "https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/.../1936%2Bxxxx.jpg",
  5.   "imageViews": "0",
  6.   "creationTime": {
  7.     "timestamp": "1516701602",
  8.     "formatted": "23 Jan 2018, 10:00:02 UTC"
  9.   },
  10.   "modificationTime": {
  11.     "timestamp": "1516701796",
  12.     "formatted": "23 Jan 2018, 10:03:16 UTC"
  13.   },
  14.   "geoData": {
  15.     "latitude": 0.0,
  16.     "longitude": 0.0,
  17.     "altitude": 0.0,
  18.     "latitudeSpan": 0.0,
  19.     "longitudeSpan": 0.0
  20.   },
  21.   "geoDataExif": {
  22.     "latitude": 0.0,
  23.     "longitude": 0.0,
  24.     "altitude": 0.0,
  25.     "latitudeSpan": 0.0,
  26.     "longitudeSpan": 0.0
  27.   }
  28. }

Which leads to the next question:

is there any software that will show the photo and read the info in the json file simultaneously?

Living Room / Google Photo: Query/s re related info
« Last post by tomos on January 22, 2018, 05:04 PM »
One of my sisters wants to share family photos online, somewhere that others can also edit related descriptive text.
Google Photos seems perfect.
She has already added info to the 'Subject' field in the file -- this gets read by google and shown in the Info panel: ideal.

Once the related info has been edited, it differs from the info saved within the file (as said above: in 'Subject' field) i.e. the info is *not* added to the file metadata. Google offer no way of downloading this info --
Question:
does anyone here know a possible way to download the info related to the photo? -- just relating it to the filename would be fine. (The info panel also has filename & upload date -- see below.)

Note the 'Album' URL has a unique identifying number, so wondering might it be possible to strip the info somewhow for all pages/photos in the album?

If you're not aware, that song is featured in an old Bing Crosby & Danny Kaye film called White Christmas (1954).
