I always make it a point to backup irreplaceable data online.

I had a bunch of data backed up online. I thought that was the best way to do it until the host's computers crashed and lost all my data. . .

Thankfully I still had it on my hard drive.

This looks really useful! Hooray!

I'm guessing it works on any kind of USB storage device, even if that USB is an external hard drive.

KVM = Keyboard Video Mouse

Any suggestions?

I think VNC does this, though I haven't ever really used it so I'm not certain.

Get it at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/win2vnc/

So if you're out shopping for a Wii (or any other hard to find/get item) and there are more people in line ahead of you than there are Wiis, simply use these brass knuckles to shorten the line (if you catch what I'm saying) and then when the police ask about it you can tell them it's just a bag holder, and demonstrate its use as you walk out the door with your brand new Wii.

I can't provide any help except to say that when I unchecked the box that introduction screen stopped coming on when I boot up Windows.

Yeah it was kind of fun to tinker around with. I didn't like the e-mail they started sending me afterwards. To be honest, I can't remember whether or not I checked a box saying I would like the newsletter, but the newsletter seemed to come every couple of days. I was able to unsubscribe. Good job ToonDoo.

Now if only I could get Xara to stop spamming me with newsletters.

Today's giveaway of the day in your signature is some kind of drawing program. Maybe you should get it and try it out.

The thing that really annoys me about all tower games I've played is that the targetting AI is lame - imho it should always be the farthest advanced unit that is targetted.

I agree that it's lame. I think it should be something like the enemy closest to your base with a preference for the ones with lower life. You may not be able to kill the closest one in time, but the one behind him you could kill if your towers would just shoot at it.

If I were ever to make a tower defense style game, I'd try really hard to make the towers a little smarter.

Dang that's fun! Seems really easy until about level 100-110 and then it seems there's no way to keep up. Although I haven't really tried the laser chain trick. I've made it to somewhere around level 122 with about 93 million points.

Anyone who plays: Be sure to read the page that says "How to Play" because the in-game help totally sucks and doesn't explain what any of the extra items do.

General Software Discussion / Re: Where is WMP 11 hiding CD cover images?
« Last post by Deozaan on April 20, 2007, 02:42 PM »
I don't know for certain, but a lot of album art is often hidden files in the album directory. Even with "see hidden files" enabled, I can't see them. But when I try to burn MP3 discs and open the folder in Nero, I see AlbumArt~ jpg files that are hidden.

Try your luck with those.

Those Apple commercials have always been lame.

However, I do hate all the bloat and crapware that comes with brand-name PCs. If I ever buy a brand-name PC/laptop, the first thing I'm going to do is format the drive and do a nice, clean install. And that's with my own discs. Not the ones that come with the bloat that's automatically installed.

I'm not necessarily anti-mac, but in its current state I would never buy one. Not enough software. Especially in the games department.

Apple is all about proprietary software/hardware. I have to admit I don't know what the significance is for Macs starting to use Intel based processors, so this might be outdated information. I just don't like the idea of buying a computer and HAVING to use Apple software. Just like I don't like the idea of using a iPod and being FORCED to use iTunes and DRM, without the ability to play MP3 or WMA or anything I want. Apple bums me out.

I would wholeheartedly recommend macs to non-techie people because that means they will not bug me later about problems, issues, and stuff.

I don't think I would, because then they would ask me how to get the latest game on it or some Windows only software, and I'd have to say "No can-do, sucks to be you!"

Here's another:

  • Tell potential/new users that if you are familiar with another program you'll have no problem using theirs, and then provide poor documentation and broken tutorials in the demo version, promising tons of great documentation and tutorials (that supposedly work) to users who buy the product, which the minimum cost is $100 but ranges up to $1250 depending on the license!

I thought the taskbar was where your apps go (icon and title), and the tray was the thing with the clock and the tiny icons.

I'd focus more on single player levels and get rid of the bonuses, or else find a way to incorporate them into the game as secret levels or something.

It's kind of like a 3D mixture between Breakout and Tetris. The blocks appear every so often and when you hit them with the ball they disappear.

Living Room / Re: Free Download A Day
« Last post by Deozaan on April 13, 2007, 12:01 PM »
Each day, they select a freeware program and give a description of it. I have already downloaded today's program and can't wait to check it out.

I found this site mentioned here at DC (I think) a couple of days ago and looked over the freeware it had listed for the past week and none of it interested me so I promptly forgot about the site. Today's isn't useful for me, but I've just subscribed to the newsletter so I can be aware of what's going on at that site now. Just in case.  :-[

This has been my desktop background and screen saver ever since I read this post in early March. It's neat.

I don't know how scientifically accurate it is, but it's still cool.

I found it useful, too!
