Like OpalCalc, I am the sole developer of a new program
I do like OpalCalc, so that leaves me with high expectations  :)

I'd be interested to explore this — thanks for the offer!

I will patent the CIRCLE WITH ROUNDED CORNERS~! ;D :P

Where's your point?

While I was scratching my head it occurred to me to patent that gesture. Had I done so earlier I'd have reaped a handsome reward, just from those baffled by these patent wars.

Living Room / Tech support — why bother?
« Last post by cranioscopical on August 24, 2012, 09:42 AM »
A recently purchased Photoshop plug-in was creating all kinds of problems. After trying a few potential remedies, to no avail, I sent email to the tech support group.

The product is available both for PC and Mac. That being so, the first line of my email was to establish which O/S I use.

I began:
My system runs Windows 7-64.

The reply began:
Go to your Macintosh HD => Library => Application Support => CrashMaster*
>and delete the CrashMaster* folder...you will need to enter your system password
>to OK this change.

* Product name changed to protect the imbecilic.

I suppose it's better than "First, format C:" but only just.

Now do this: say 'toast' 25 times, as fast as you can, click the spoiler immediately after and answer the question without hesitating.
I do believe you're waffling!

Anyone else have cleanup stories?

Only that, like many of us here, I move 'older' machines out to good homes. The last one went to a friend who uses much of the same software as I. Over a period of several days I rooted out masses of other software ( >600) and data, then optimized the box. As I gave it away I wondered why I'd not done this for myself. It was flying along compared to when I'd been using it.

Probably the same guy who believed they were going to stop making Coke Classic has the Blockbuster mugs in an underground bunker along with Mickey Mouse watches and a few decommissioned nukes. :)
Isn't that the fellow with crates of Snickers? Last I heard he was going to Mars.

Kinda makes my Nikon look a bit low-tech.
Don't despair, think of it a symbol of quality snaps — nikonography.

Try this one:

If it works I will need to note somewhere down that each work with Designer requires manual code re-arrangement.

Developer's Corner / Re: newsletters - how to do them properly
« Last post by cranioscopical on August 10, 2012, 01:45 PM »
have at least five issues worth of material before you publish your first. Because you will get writer's slump sooner or later. And having half a year's worth of buffer between you and an uncooperative blank page goes a long way towards keeping you sane.
It's far too late to put my name into any sentence containing the word 'sane' but I heartily agree with this advice. I used to publish a monthly user-group newsletter and it was a royal PITA at times.

Vlastimil, if you decide to go ahead:
  • I'd start slowly — maybe 3 or 4 a year. If you adopt the advice above you may find that by your third in-hand copy you'll have decided to abort the mission.
  • Good newsletters are not all about a product or company. You have demonstrated that you have much to say that's interesting about graphics in general — too much emphasis on just your products could be counterproductive. Displaying your expertise in conjunction with your 'brand name' in a way that imparts useful information about the field might well be the better way to go.
  • Newsletters are not better for being longer.
  • If you decide to tell your readers what schedule to expect, stick to it!.

mine is the model I (which used a cassette player to save programs not a disk drive)
That damned cassette player!
I still recall the pain of huddling all night over a TRS 80, producing the worst kind of spaghetti code in order to beat a deadline. Finally, as dawn broke and before sending it to cassette, I just had to stretch and in so doing inadvertently kicked the power plug out of its socket.
Ouch!
