Happens to me too - kind of a text-only mode (Web 1.0?). Reload fixes most of the time - a close of FF (I have it clean my "Private Data" on close) always remedies the problem.

Has this been reported to the Mozilla Bug Tracker?

Alright, as I head off to bed I thought I would post my progress from today...

  • SnapSuite will now have a splash screen. I made it myself in Photoshop and personally think it looks quite good.
  • Said splash screen will FADE in and out! It will reach 100% opacity (normal) and decline back to 0%.
  • During the splash screen being open, the SnapSuite Loading Sound will play.

Also, I learned about opacity from a separate (and not successful) experience, and I also figured out how Timers work. Good stuff to know for future reference.

I have been working constantly since my last post- mostly on KidDraw, but a little bit on other features. Here is a summary of what you can expect from KidDraw:

It WILL be able to...
"clean" your "page" (New)
SAVE images made in KidDraw to JPG files

It WILL NOT be able to...
open existing images (I will keep trying, but...)
print (as with FastNote, I want to have this option, but it looks too advanced for me)
Cut/Copy/Paste/Select All/Undo

Although it has...
adjustable brush sizes to fit individual requirements
several different colors to choose from for individual requirements

So it can paint, save, and clear - just the basics. But that is still enough to get creative with, right? :)

(I have been sending out copies to select people and have gotten nothing but positive feedback - a few feature ideas, but nothing negative :D)

See the attached image that my friend Mariana did (used to do graphics work for SnapSuite) - it was done completely in KidDraw!!! :tellme:
(NOTE: In her image, the Save button is disabled - I worked the code out for the button while she did this)

I have come from VB Land with exciting news :P

I was fortunate to find a better tutorial online that explains making functional drawing boards, and instead of the crappy WPF tutorial Microsoft offers, I found one that uses the normal Windows Application tools - allowing me to integrate it almost seamlessly (after some modification and adding of features, of course).

So I present now the first working model of the drawing board that is PART of SnapSuite; along with my lovely drawing ;D

(I am going to try to work on loading images (at least) after posting - it might work...maybe...)

Vacations? Without computer and operating internet connection, it wouldn't be a vacation but a punishment...  :-[

I second that opinion :)

General Software Discussion / Looking for iPod Shuffle auto-shutoff addon
« Last post by wreckedcarzz on April 07, 2008, 12:55 AM »
Hey everyone,

Got my first iPod working a couple days ago, and (as some of you know I am *NOT* an Apple fan) I am overall happy with it. However, I often leave it unattended playing (or just on and paused) without remembering to switch it off. Does anyone know how my 2nd Gen Shuffle can be set to auto shutoff after X minutes? (firmware hacks or other things are fine - I don't have AppleCare but I am not concerned about it breaking).

Any ideas?

Yes, the DonationCoder lighting setup is about 50% complete - but at maximum settings (ask me in-game) it looks amazing even thus far. This map should be really awesome by the time it is complete.

Also: server went down via power cut about 6 hours ago - the CPU overloaded and the computer stopped responding, so a hard shutdown was required. Rebooting now...

Yes, this worries me too- I have an aging PM from mouser about FTP information, and I cannot lose it.

Will PMs ever be deleted/wiped?

SnapSuite Component Status Overview:

Figured I would give an overall completion amount for all SnapSuite components (as I call them)...

(I have been working my butt off adding things and changing the overall appearance to make SnapSuite extremely easy to use and easy to open it and just "get it done" without lengthy navigation)

  • QuickStart (the main menu) has been polished over and is complete
  • AppLaunch is complete
  • AutoType needs to be repaired (heavily) @ ~60% completion (it is looking grim) - IM clearing is complete
  • DateMaker is complete (known bug: XP displays calendars differently from Vista (causing the strange appearance on XP) - SnapSuite is "designed for Windows Vista, compatible with Windows XP", so Vista overrides XP)
  • FastNote is complete EXCEPT the ability to print :D
  • KidDraw still needs to be integrated - 5% completion on the main GUI side, ~25% overall :(
  • MediaControl is complete
  • SmartBrowse 1.0 is complete
  • SmartBrowse 2.0 is complete.
  • SystemCare is complete EXCEPT automatic maintenance EXEs.
  • The Support section is complete
  • The About section is complete

There are still several things I want to add afterwards, but so far I am very happy with the overall result. The only disappointment I have is that I am worried that KidDraw will be very basic and just be able to make doodles - no saving, no opening, no printing. But we shall see...

Alright, for anyone that uses Xfire (I have this list of people - Xfire USERNAMES, not nicknames: hachibushu, Deozaan, wraith808, p3lb0x, jgpaiva), you are being sent invites for a DC team on Xfire (keeps everyone in the team in a seperate group, and makes communication easier).

The Team page is here: http://www.xfire.com...clans/donationcoder/ if you want to check it out.

Invite people and spread the word! :)

I am online now - my dad is sick, so I don't have to continue redecorating the master bathroom today.

I will just be making stuff, so come and join :)

tinjaw, my old (almost 9 year old) Gateway w/ XP had Python preinstalled - and I believe my XP laptop does too. Hmm, strange... Anyways, I am downloading the PDF now. :)

Anatolie, Perl doesn't come preinstalled on XP or Vista (I use Vista), btw. I'll boot into Xubuntu later and read up on Perl.

That would mean that someone was on the server as a Master and setup the server to have all new players be spectators. Hmm... :tellme: - When was that?

I have to go check the mail for a package, but after that I will logon and take Administrator (highest option) and make sure everyone can get in and play :)

FYI: Hold TAB to see a list of players - White are Normal, Green (I think) are Masters, and Orange (only one) are Administrators. If you can't leave spectator mode and they refuse to "unspec" you (make normal/not spectator), just take down their name and post it here so I can ban it

Alright, as it approaches 1AM here where I live, the server is now back online. I will take it down sometime this weekend for a short period to update SnapSuite on it and run maintenance. Other than that - play on!

I knew someone would try to join the server before I got it back online...

The server has been down for about a week now - something happened (I don't remember) and I shut it down for a temporary reason... and I only booted it up a couple times after that and quickly shut it down again.

I will have to find out what happened again (it has been a week of chaos for me) and fix it, and get the server back online. I will do that now and re-post when completed

Python! Python python python! :)

Did I hear Python? ;D

I have no knowledge at ALL about that language though - all I know (honestly) is that it comes preinstalled on Windows and is available in the Xubuntu Package Manager. I have no idea about Python programming.

I looked into Perl a while ago - didn't understand it, so trashed it. Might give it a go again... :-\

First of all, if you read the post title in Pop-Up Cody or somewhere else, before you are mislead...
No program updates yet - (still) more work to do. I want to make this a good, worthy update.

Alright, after quite a few hectic days and I have some good/updated news...

FastNote will NOT be canceled!

SnapSuite news:
I have been working my behind off the last 3 nights (I have gotten about 25 hours sleep this week - I usually get 36+) getting the New/Open/Save options for FastNote working (so that you can actually USE it) and after extensive debugging, repair, and testing - it handles text files wonderfully. There are a few things I would like to add, but they are minor things ("Would you like to save? Yes/No" When you don't save before clicking New, etc...) so I won't work on them now.

I am very proud of myself, as I am really worried that I am not able to get everything working as I really hope to do. I don't want to say things and then let people down (including myself).

I have also been fixing very minor things (things you just expect a program to do - just small items) and fixing the code base. AutoType is f*cked - I have no idea what to do about that right now... :-\

Video/commercial:
I am also thinking about a commercial (just for DC, for fun) for SnapSuite - something really short and basic, but just kinda "cool". I am not sure wether I want to post about that or not (because then there is the idea of me posting and no one replying, therefore my looking idiotic - or the problem of privacy and whatnot - and other stuff that could go along with it). It is an interesting idea, just not sure if it would be ... "welcome" (if you will). Can't really explain it any other way.

Question/comments/ideas - post 'em! :)

It doesn't have an updater - that was the point. You have to rely on someone to tell you, a program/game to require you to update, an updater to tell you (like the FileHippo Update Checker), or just check every couple weeks (my scenario). >:(

@Stoic Joker: I use this PC for gaming (~80% of the time) and the CPU is quite aged; I rely on the GPU to do most of the work during games. :-\

Being in a Media Productions class, I have been working on lots of (media) stuff. Images, videos, sounds. Somewhat complex, especially because I love to tinker.

Took a leap with one of my Creative Commons songs, and pulled the first 6 seconds out, and added a long fade (in) effect and a short fade (out) effect (at beginning and end respectively). This I am choosing to use as the SnapSuite welcome sound (somewhat similar to the idea of the Windows XP/Vista welcome sound).

I chose this particular part because it is at the beginning of the song, and it just seems to be relaxing. It is kind of like "welcome, have a look around". It ends somewhat abruptly but I wanted it to be short (10 seconds is a bit lengthy for a small sound effect).

You can download it (linked as attachment) below - just a small MP3. Opinions, please?

-Brandon

EDIT: It is notable that the Media class is Macintosh based, and this was (proudly) done on a Windows PC ;)

Developer's Corner / Re: Launching Google search in Visual Basic - Help?

Yes, exactly - I figured it would (logically) work as the parameters do when launching programs (just addon) - Obviously I am incorrect, but that was my hypothesis.

I didn't really understand what you were trying to say (its been a long day) but the browser does go to Google - it just doesn't enter the text that would logically go where txtSearch.Text is (ex: http://www.google.co.../search?hl=en&q=My Awesome Search) so it (Google) kicks me back.

(Click link to see example)

I am trying to salvage what I can of the SB web search box, but it isn't looking too hopeful right now. :-\

I just figured I would give an FYI to everyone that I am using the latest version of AHK for the AHK scripts that are left (the new InstantSweep uses it) and I will be updating all AHK files to the new version. If your virus scanner goes off next update, that is probably why (although it could still be something unrelated to SnapSuite, of course (and hopefully!)).

I have had about 5 crashes on Vista since I got it. All related to ATI drivers. The drivers are good, but they update them so freaking much, and have this totally crap update system (word of mouth/luck). You never have the latest drivers!
