Living Room / New Cars Must Have Middle-Man

Tesla's sales model? It's simple: don't sell cars
Tesla Motors sells direct to consumers, which has prompted car dealerships to cry foul. Could the electric automaker change not just the cars we drive, but also how we buy them?

All I could see that you were doing was trying to help the guy and I didn't see anything "pompous".  ______ ________________________________________________________________

jeez dude, we're all just people. Havent you ever misinterpreted someone's actions or statements? Or maybe overreacted to something? I know I sure have - I usually dont online cause I use the preview button a lot before I click the post button - but in the 'spoken' world it's different... LOL, I'd hate to have you looking over my shoulder + coming down like a ton of bricks if I ever made a mistake ;D

Uh, kind of hard to read anything else into that post.  It's not like he made a "little innocent" mistake with his wording, spelling or grammar.  He was just being an ass with someone that was obviously trying to help him.  I have little patience with people like that.  I'd hate to see how well this site would be supported if more trolls/turd-heads made their way here.  I know I'd find a friendlier place to hang out....  ;)

But you can rest assured that I will NEVER "come down" on someone for spelling, grammar, or an "innocent" mistake.  In fact, I kind of despise spelling/grammar nazis, I find them rather smug.   8)

Shadowy data brokers have turned online and offline data collection into a huge unregulated business. Now the U.S. Federal Trade Commission is demanding details about how these companies work.

As Digital Rights Advocates Mobilize Around the TPP Negotiations, Process Becomes Even Less Transparent
The 15th round of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement negotiations in New Zealand has concluded, locking out civil society participation in an unprecedented way. Based upon what we have seen from a leaked version of the agreement, the TPP contains language that could effectively pressure ISPs to become Internet cops and criminalize the distribution of DRM-circumvention tools even for fair uses. It would also impede parallel importation of copyrighted goods, among other things. After participating in previous rounds, we could not have imagined that the process could become any less transparent. Amazingly, it did.

I dunno, he's offering options and opinions - options and opinions that aren't necessarily what you want (in this case), but they're still relevant.

FWIW I think it's a good idea, I'd use it ...

Seems like Windows people get bummed if they have to use more than one program. On Linux nobody bats and eye about stringing a half dozen applications together as each link in the chain is already proven. Esp. command line filter/pattern match etc..

All I could see that you were doing was trying to help the guy and I didn't see anything "pompous".  Obviously just a troll or just a genuine a--hole.  Now that you know his demeaner, I wouldn't whizz up his butt if his guts were on fire.....

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: Paste As File 2.1.0.0
« Last post by Tinman57 on December 16, 2012, 04:43 PM »
The Paste As File menu item on an XP system is on the FOLDER context menu as stated in the help file and on the download page on the website "Notice: Windows XP will have the menu item on the folder context menu, not the background menu."

As for the uninstaller, I'll look into it as I have not had any reports of this before. Might need to set admin for this as well.

Thanks for letting me know!
I didn't see it in any menu, folder-wise or background.  How would it work for a file if the app only works in the folder menu?

Generic crap with tons of advertising. Lowest common denominator entertainment. I'm not saying your money should pay for what I listen to - but I am complaining about the alternative.
Last time I saw Amercian TV was scary - and that was years ago - I cant see it having gotten any better since.

I've seen BBC, they ain't got nothing to brag about.  lol

From what I understand, American tv is the top rated and is watched by more countries than any other.  Must not be too shabby.  There's a lot of stuff that I don't like on the tv here, but what I don't like someone else will, which is what's so great about all the channels we have.  Don't like what's on, turn to another channel.   :D
As far as the commercials, first it gives you a bathroom or snack-gettin' break.  For fellers like me that use a DVR, I skip past the commercials that I don't like or have seen several times over...

These are good to have for cat owners because the more cats drink the less chance they have of having urinary tract problems, which cats are well known for....

Didn't know that.
My mom called me a couple of weeks ago and asked why her cat would start urinating on the bed every day.  I told her it was most likely a urinary tract problem, the poor kitty associating the litter box with pain, therefore trying to pee somewhere it didn't hurt.
Anyhow, she took it to the vet and found the cat had a urinary tract infection and put it on the appropriate drugs.  Kitty is now well and using the litter box again instead of the bed....

I have mixed feelings -and thoughts- there.
The reality very probably is, that the radio stations I do often enjoy listening to, would not exist if there were no license. As said above, I'm out of touch with TV, so I cant comment about that.
If the license wasn't there, we would only have advertising supported stations. Reminiscent of the internet craze for 'free' resulting in  lots of ad-supported apps - and adware.

One good thing about ad based tv & radio stations, you don't have to pay for the crap you don't want to watch or listen to.  If the station wants to be profitable they have to compete for good entertainment which brings in advertizers to pay for it all.

It actually applies to more than just UK residents - anyone who buys anything in the UK capable of receiving a TV signal is expected to either have a TV license or currently staying somewhere that does.

I was going to be refused the purchase of a USB DVB-T tuner from Maplins unless I specified an address they could look up to see if it had a valid license.

Un-freaking believable!  What if your buying it as a gift to someone that does have a license?  Seems to me they're calling you a criminal just for trying to buy it....

But, it's linux-based! And linux is not windows, so it's super secure! :o :o :o
But if it was Windows based, you would be getting the Blue (or White) screen of death every 2 hours of use.....   :o
When they say Linux based and it's that unsecure, then it's probably a "homemade" Samsung distro that didn't figure in any kind of protection thinking that it wouldn't need any.  Kind of makes you want to stay away from all that is Samsung for that little mistake....  Either way, I'm still going to Linux when MS stops support for XP......

Living Room / Re: Greatest shipping ripoff ever?
« Last post by Tinman57 on December 15, 2012, 07:39 PM »
Yep, that's why they say "Buyer Beware" and "If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't."  There's a lot of online shopping sites that will advertise items 50 - 60 % cheaper than any other site.  But when you look at the shipping details that's when you realize they're making a killing.  Sometimes they will have cheap shipping, but hit you with high "handling" charges.  Like that CD selling for $2.95.  You think that's great until you see their shipping or handling charge of $15.00 or more.  It's just another way to scam people legally.  I refuse to do business with shopping sites that use this scam, no matter how hard the item may be to find.....

I think all of this started from the new "Smart Meters" they're installing around the country.  They just installed one on my house about 2 months ago.  It's good that it sends the meter readings over the lines and automatically tells them when there's a power outage, but bad for the meter-readers.  And of course it's bad for privacy because now they can tell what your running in your house, from A/C's to lighting.....

My gadget post for today is a water fountain for your pet.

The one I have is by Drinkwell but there are a bunch of different models and there is nothing special about this one:

I don't know why the cat loves drinking out of it so much, but she does -- something about the moving water is very appealing to cats (dogs too?).  They think they are drinking from a fresh flowing stream or some nonsense.

You do have to clean it every once in a while, but it clearly makes the cat happy so I think it's worth the trouble.

I've got one, but a little different.  Mine looks like a toilet and shoots water up from a spigot close to the water level.  The reason the cats like drinking from it so much is because it's aerated, which makes the water taste better.  Basically the same reason our inside faucets have aeraters, mixes in oxygen into the water giving it a better taste.
These are good to have for cat owners because the more cats drink the less chance they have of having urinary tract problems, which cats are well known for....

Personally, I always thought the TV license in GB was crap and stepped on the rights of the citizens.  I don't know of any other country that does this, but there may be.  Either way, I think it's a tax on information sent over the airwaves and should be illegal.  I don't know who the genius was that came up with this idea, but he/she/they should be horsewhipped, tarred and feathered.

Good luck with going against the government, your going to need it.....
