Living Room / Re: Scorecard Research Survey (NSFW)
« Last post by Renegade on December 20, 2010, 11:27 PM »
<rant>

I felt the overwhelming need to contact Wordpress as well...

I did:
I posted on my domain at http://kewlaid.net where I have paid for no ads.

I saw:
Scorecard Research posted a survey on MY SITE on MY DOMAIN.

I expected:
I expected that having paid for no fucking ads, that there would be no fucking ads.

I am fucking pissed. How the fuck do you think it is ok to post fucking ads and shit on MY FUCKING DOMAIN when I pay for NO FUCKING ADS?

YOU ARE POSTING ARBITRARY CODE THAT IS NOT A PART OF WORDPRESS ON MY SITE.

Normally this would be considered hacking or theft of services. It is at the very minimum spam. It is clearly using my domain and services that I have paid for to spam people, and sure as hell looks like criminal theft of services.

I have posted here with a screenshot of the Scorecard Research survey:

https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=24965.0

I'm not going to tell anyone about my online usage, but I'm sure as fuck going to ask why someone is polluting my site with spam!

Living Room / Scorecard Research Survey (NSFW) - Ed. Wordpress hacked?
« Last post by Renegade on December 20, 2010, 11:16 PM »
<rant>

THOSE FUCKING DOUCHES!

I just ranted about my crappy Mac DVD drive, and then these douches (Scorecard Research) drop a survey on the site (http://kewlaid.net). It's hosted at Wordpress, so I'm pretty pissed with them as well.

Enraged that they'd put their crap on a site that I pay for, I had to use their contact form:

You dropped a survey into my site at http://kewlaid.net.

What the fuck makes you think that it's fucking ok to put your shit on MY FUCKING SITE THAT I FUCKING PAY FOR~!

I expect a fucking response.

Seriously. Isn't this criminal?

This is what they fucking did:

ScorecardResearchSurvey.png

Pissed. Very pissed.

Living Room / Flickr API Niceness
« Last post by Renegade on December 20, 2010, 09:53 PM »
Well, I need to upload photos en masse, and Facebook just isn't working right, so I've decided to go with Flickr.

Now I check the API Key page, and see this (source):

First, we need to know whether or not your app is commercial.
Choose Non-Commercial if:

    * Your app doesn't make money.
    * Your app makes money, but you're a family-run, small, or independent business.
    * You're developing a product which is not currently commercial, but might be in the future.
    * You're building a personal website or blog where you are only using your own images.

APPLY FOR A NON-COMMERCIAL KEY
or
Choose Commercial if:

    * You or your agency works for a major brand.

AND one of the following:

    * You want to make a profit.
    * You charge a fee for your product or services.
    * You will bring Flickr content into your product and intend to sell those services.

APPLY FOR A COMMERCIAL KEY

At first I saw the button text, and kind of groaned, but read further.

Non-commercial includes:

* Your app makes money, but you're a family-run, small, or independent business.

Which really makes things a lot easier for a small guy like me. Lord knows that big business licenses can be overwhelming...

Anyways, just wanted to post that as it was something I thought was very nice of them.

Well, just got back with the new toy.

I went with the Logitech 950. MSY had it for $89 where the Logitech site lists it at $200, which put it in a price range I'm more comfortable with. And of course it lists for $100 in the US...

NSFW
Research shows that the average Australian consumer ass hole is 30% to 500% larger than their American counterparts. Further analassis of Australian retailers detected unusually high concentrations of fecal matter on their cocks. While the correlation seems to be strong, further analassis needs to be done, starting with some good old fashioned fisting...

So far the mouse seems quite nice, and is much faster than my old one, which is nice though it will require a bit of adjustment.

The friction pads on the bottom make it glide like... well... get your own metaphor. ;) But it's good. :D

The wheel is exceptionally smooth as well. Again, it will take some adjustment.

Living Room / Re: Obscene # of Tabs in FF
« Last post by Renegade on December 20, 2010, 08:28 PM »
I do really like the way it uses color, but the scrolling thing is a deal killer for me.

You could have just the colors by using Colorful Tabs...it's just color, no funny business. I happen to like the colors from this plugin better than what Tab Kit has, so I disabled the colors in Tab Kit and installed this:

https://www.binarytu...fultabs-for-firefox/

They work together fine? (I'm a bit skittish about FF addins. Had too many troubles with them in the past...)

The pastels there are nicer to look at -- softer on the eyes.

That's perfect for a NANY.

Cool.

I'll get stuff sorted shortly. I need to run out the door to get that new mouse now. :)

I've setup a page for Duplicate Photo Deleter. (Again, need to clean that, but it's up.)

Author Renegade

Description
Duplicate Photo Finder is a photo file management tool to find photos by folder and let you delete duplicates. It aims to be minimalistic with no significant learning curve.

Features
Duplicate Photo Finder:

  • Lets you choose an "original" and "duplicate" folder to search in
  • Finds duplicates by file size, file signature (file hash), or photo signature (pixel data hash)
  • Lets you delete individual photos or many photos at once
  • Deletes to the Recycle Bin (just in case your brain falls out and you delete the wrong photos)
  • Only JPG files are scanned
  • Has no complex features to confuse you

Duplicate Photo Finder is for "photos", and not for other graphics or files. As such, it only scans JPG files because digital cameras take JPG photos and not PNG or GIF or XLS or DOC... ;)

It is also aimed at regular people and hobbyists, and not professional photographers. As such, there is no RAW image support and no professional-type features, e.g. no undelete, no database support. Again, this is aimed at being minimalistic and easy to use.

Planned Features
Planned features include speed optimizations, multi-threading for additional speed, and other image comparison methods (exact image comparisons).

Screenshots

Yes. That is me and my wife~! :D

And yes, that is me sticking my tongue out~! :P 2x~! :P

Usage
Installation
Installation is trivial. Run the installer and follow the directions. The application is installed to:

<drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Renegade Minds\Duplicate Photo Finder

Running the application the first time has no surprises and there is no configuration required.

Using the Application
The installer puts an application shortcut under the Start Menu. i.e. Start > Duplicate Photo Finder. There is no desktop shortcut unless you create one yourself.

1) Browse to 2 folders using the folder browsers.
2) Click the "Compare" button.
3) Decide which photos you want to delete.
4) Click a delete button.
5) Repeat steps 1~4 for other folders that you wish to compare images in.

TIP 1: Use the "Simple" mode first, then do the more thorough "Image Signature" scan afterwards. It will save you time and produce the best results.

TIP 2: Take your time. The program is relatively idiot-proof, and deletes photos to the Recycle Bin, so you can still retrieve deleted photos. However, this is only proof up to "Idiot v5.0"; please do not try to upgrade yourself to "Idiot v6.0" as you will win~! :D

Uninstallation
Go to the Windows Control Panel applet for uninstalling programs. Click the program's entry, then click "Uninstall".

Known Issues
The application does not make use of threading/multi-threading, and as such requires that the user wait for tasks to complete before starting a new task. Multi-threading is planned.

There is no help file, documentation, or credits yet.

While the program deletes duplicates to the Recycle Bin, and they can be retrieved, there is no substitute for not doing stupid things in the first place. ;) Remember, this is a bulk deleting utility and can delete large swaths of data quickly. Take your time. There's no rush. :)

Enjoy~! :D

But seriously -- MSY's site is messed up as in Katrina meets Fatman meets the elephantman meets ebola meets leprosy.

yeah, it's gotta be one of the worst I've ever run across, though it is better than it was...

True... It used to be a set of a few PDFs... I don't know what it is about Australia, but a LOT of companies think a web site means putting up a PDF catalog.

...Tree Style Tab https://addons.mozil.../firefox/addon/5890/ ...

I am a Tab Kit ...

Tried both, and I like Tree Style Tab much better. Tab Kit I pretty much hated right off the bat. It's the way it scrolls through the tabs when I use the mouse scroll wheel that I don't like. I do really like the way it uses color, but the scrolling thing is a deal killer for me. And then I checked the options... :) So I'll be keeping it around for a while to see more. (The default is a bit odd.)

I see why I missed them though... I was looking for wireless only and never mentioned that...  :-[ Hehehe ooops~!  :-[

Try Magic the Gathering Online. Addictive. Also can be costly if you want it to be. :)

Nice suggestion - I did enjoy MtG a great deal back in the day. If it can also be played offline, that would be a good start.

Keep 'em coming!

I had the old MTG years ago that was entirely offline.

I *think* this is offline:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/49400

But, it uses Steam... I tried to use Steam once and it was just hosed. Probably it pissed me off because it wouldn't let me set my location and I *HATE* being rammed down a GeoIP funnel that screws everything and won't let me buy, which is most of the time... Grrrr... But that's another rant. Or it might have been just popping up "updates" like Java and Adobe. Either way, Steam left a bad taste in my mouth.

Anyways, if you can use Steam, I guess it will work. There's a demo for it.

I'd like to give it a spin, so I'll likely suck it up and waste an hour later today when I'm feeling like I need a 12th or 15th drink.

they do have it in australia (at least on the web-site).. :)

i like love mx518 very much because it has a nice balance between functionality and fluff (e.g. overloading of features, etc). in fact, i have 3 of them (2 actively using and a spare)..

Odd. It didn't show up in their mice section when I looked. They don't carry it at MSY though, which sells at less than half the web price for the 950 model ($199 vs. $89).

The R.A.T. looks bizarre. I'd have to give it a spin first as it looks like it's really aimed too much at gamers for me.

My current one is messing up, so I figure that I should just buy a keyboard and mouse set.

Any recommendations or ones to avoid?

I generally like Logitech mice as they fit well in my hand.

Or recommendations for just mice are probably best as I have a Korean keyboard and doubt I could get one here. But, a really good ergonomic keyboard might be nice too... Undecided...

While I'd definitely not be surprised if Microsoft were to abuse patents, the reality of today's insanely broken system is that you gotta grab those patents before somebody else does and sue you even if you made software utilizing the technology using the patented technology even before the patents were granted...

Very true, and even more sad.

It has to totally break down at some point. Somebody needs to wake up and fix it eventually.

You might want to try one of the InnoSetup GUIs here: http://www.jrsoftware.org/is3rdparty.php

It should help out there.

I haven't used it in a long time and don't remember much of anything about it.

All decent MP3 renamers can do that already. They just read the tag info and let you specify how you want the files named.

I always think those For Dummies books are okay to buy for myself (you can guess why!) but a little insulting to give to others.
-cranioscopical (December 18, 2010, 11:55 AM)

+1 for Dummies. It's a good starter.

After that, Microsoft Press or Sams are ok.

Apress and O'Reilly are out as they are way too advanced.

The Idiots series might be worth looking at.
