I'm at the last level. Those barriers you see there gradually slide up and down. That's why it looks like my ship went through the wall. The three attractors/repellors on stage already cannot be moved. The 8 underneath it all I can place wherever I want.

This is how I beat level 40:

This is fun! I had a fun incident happen on level 5 in which my ship started orbiting the gravity center.

I've made it to level 40 without too much effort, but this one is a doozy! If you haven't gotten far enough to know what all the stuff is on the screen, the stars are attractors, the blue circles are repellors, and the purple thingy is the goal. On this particular level I can move the attractors and repellors to wherever I want. (The two at the bottom I haven't placed yet)

Bird pawprint? Hee hee.  :D That brings up a question:

Does Cody have large talons?  :P

when oh when are we going to see a Cody Defense tower game  :( :( :( :( :(

Cody made me buy a special mug and he put his little duck bird pawprint on it to give as a gift to the programmer but still no game has emerged.

Oh yeah, duh.

I don't know why I didn't do a search on that site for shopcv.com -- It lists a ton!

http://www.ripoffrep...om&Search=Search

Stay far away! And everyone remind everyone who shares your money not to give out credit card info to telemarketers. My wife had her card out and was reading off some numbers before I heard her and snatched it away.  :o

A rebuttal from a satisfied customer says:
Although their ink prices may be the same, if not sometimes higher, I find it more convenient to shop on-line than stand in line at the store(s).

So, in other words, their ink cartridges, which are advertised at up to 75% off are sometimes more expensive than at retail but at least it's more convenient than standing in line at a store?  :tellme:

Living Room / ShopCV.com -- A Scam or Legitimate?
« Last post by Deozaan on September 06, 2007, 04:02 PM »
My wife just got a call from a telemarketer who told her about a website (http://www.shopcv.com/) saying it offered deals similar to Costco or Sam's Club but with a lifetime membership fee instead of an annual fee.

The telemarketer then asked for a credit card number for a trial period. I checked out the website and tried to find a review about it to see whether or not it was a scam. All I found was this: http://www.ripoffrep...37/ripoff0137315.htm

Considering the business has (supposedly) been around since 2000, and I only see two negative things about it makes me wonder if it isn't as much as a scam as it looks like. Then again, it's been around since 2000 and the only thing I can find on it is other people in other forums asking the same question I am here.

Is it a scam or is it legitimate? Anyone have any good detective skills or know from personal experience about this site?

Well I found the pattern, but I still don't know what the problem is.

When I'm on YouTube.com the audio works. But when the video is embedded on another website, I don't hear anything. Any ideas?

Living Room / Re: Acceptable expletives
« Last post by Deozaan on August 26, 2007, 04:22 PM »
As someone who has never purposely said a "cuss" word in his life, I have decided that my favorite expletive replacer is "Smurf." I was trying explain to jgpaiva (if I recall correctly) how silly the F-Word is because it doesn't really mean anything, and how silly it is that people get offended by it, so to present a hypothetical situation I asked "What if everyone just said a silly word, like 'Smurf' when they wanted to cuss?"

"Smurf" is just such an ambiguous word like the F-Word that I tried to illustrate how any other word in its place completely changed the response you get from saying it.

Not long after that, I was having troubles with Windows Vista and it made me so very mad that for the first time in my life I really felt like saying some terrible things. Now App101 has a "welcome back" quote in the DC IRC channel of me saying the smurf word a lot. :-[

It's a good point: since when did Pete become an expletive? I love this explanation!

I hope that explanation was a joke. It tells the exact date and time that phrase was first said but then it says there is no written record of it ever happening?  :-\

Developer's Corner / Re: Docoto Defense - DonationCoder.com Game in Development
« Last post by Deozaan on August 17, 2007, 10:25 PM »
I didn't mention last week's blog entry as I figured that weekly updates of "Yes it's still being worked on, no I don't have anything to show you," were a little pointless.

However it might be interesting to see that Docoto Defense is changing its core technology from 2D TGB to 3D TGE (mentioned as a possibility a couple weeks ago) and the new discussions that is bringing about. With that I've had to take some steps back and learn the 3D engine environment and related issues so again there isn't anything more to show, but yes, it's still being worked on.

As mentioned in this week's blog entry, right now I'm looking at buying the RTS Starter Kit ($50) and the AFX Combo Pack ($75). Since Tower Defense is basically a minimalized RTS, there are some obvious benefits an RTS Kit would have, such as camera control, unit selection/building, and a multiplayer lobby. The AFX technology information page looks like it is mainly for magical spell systems, but really the technology can be adapted for targeting and shooting from the towers and many other nifty things.

Mouser has been kind enough to buy me a Torque Book ($60) which just arrived today and we both agree on the usefulness both the RTS Kit and AFX Combo Pack would have for the game. Unfortunately, being the starving college student I am (except not technically really "starving") these things are a bit pricey. I have just under $15 in DonationCredits and would love for that number to be somewhat higher to make buying these resources more affordable. For anyone with a few extra dollars willing to make a contribution, it would be very much appreciated!

That's it for this time. Thanks everyone!

Windows update did something with my audio drivers about a month ago and it made my PC blue screen a lot. I just removed the drivers since there are no speakers connected to this thing anyway and all is well.

Living Room / YouTube Audio Problems
« Last post by Deozaan on August 17, 2007, 01:41 AM »
Sometimes when I'm watching a YouTube video I can't hear any audio. I know there is/should be audio because, for instance, the video I'm trying to watch now is music that has been posted for hundreds/thousands of other people to see.

Are there certain codecs I should get or any ideas why some videos have no audio? Also, I'm not certain that it is limited to just YouTube, but since that is the primary video website, I've definitely noticed it there.

You need an easier way to cycle between entrances and creeps.

And it needs to be fun.

Any tips for level 4? I can't get anything through.

Only one minute?

I absolutely hate talking on the phone but back in 2001 when I used that program I mentioned earlier in this thread that limited it to 5 minutes, the call was over before I knew it. One minute is nothing.

Did Microsoft make us forget what "Micro" means? It means small. Tiny. Itty Bitty. MicroTransactions (Xbox 360) aren't that small, and these MicroPledge amounts don't seem very "Micro" to me, either.

Living Room / Re: How to choose a credit card?
« Last post by Deozaan on August 07, 2007, 06:45 PM »
Let me share a personal story:

Once upon a time I was 18 years old and didn't have any credit history. I hated not being able to buy stuff or always requiring my parents to co-sign for me on stuff. I tried to get a simple card, like from a gas station but no one would give me a credit card because I had no credit history.

Finally I got an offer in the mail that gave me a card with a limit of $500 on it (with my parents as co-signers). Problem solved, I thought.

I was absolutely responsible with the card, always paying it off every month and never even approaching the limit. Then after about a year and a half I started wanting to make some bigger purchases, like a nice Tempurpedic bed for about $1,500. There was a nice deal on it where I didn't have to pay interest on it for several months and with my income I could easily pay it off in time. But for some reason I couldn't get approved for the loan. I still had to have my parents co-sign for me. :-( Thankfully (for them and me) I was responsible with my money so they were willing to do that.

Anyway, eventually I wanted to be free from the card my parents co-signed and so I got a new card with a lower limit ($300) and NO annual fee. I had that one for several years and every so often they raised my limit. Well, about two and a half years ago I got to a point where there was one month in which I could not pay off the entire balance. I had let my self-control on my spending slip a little. Long story somewhat shortened, I never have gotten that balance back down to zero in all these past two and a half years. In fact, my limit is up to somewhere around $12,500. I managed to get myself in about $8,000 debt in just two years, and those interest payments are a killer!

Over the past few months I've canceled the card, gotten new ones with balance transfer deals, and am working my debt back down to nothingness. My plan from here on out is to never ever use a credit card again. I'll stick with debit. Spend money the way it was meant to be spent: Pay with what you have, not what you might have eventually.

I personally think the best advice anyone can give you is to not get a credit card. It's best to just save up your money and have interest work for you instead of against you. There are only a couple things really worth going into debt for in my opinion, one is a (modest) house, the other is an education. And by education I mean paying for the classes and books and supplies. Not taking out a student loan to pay for your college lifestyle (car, clothes, technology, etc). Everything else should be paid with money you already have.
