Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: hotkey to toggle left/right mouse buttons
« Last post by tomos on December 14, 2008, 05:45 PM »
You probably don't know this, but there is a much easier way to do this. You can do this with no user interface by setting "HKCU\Control Panel\Mouse", "SwapMouseButtons" to 1 or 0 and using DllCall user32.dll SwapMouseButton 1 or 0.

much easier way to toggle mouse buttons ?? - maybe your post is aimed at Skrommel? - me, I dont understand it - I mean I dont mind messing with the registry just not sure what you're saying exactly ...

I'd forgotten about the Friday night tech read :-) thanks as ever Ethyar

#11 especially enjoyed that read - I send text messages abroad a lot so tend to abbreviate a lot (to cut down on costs) - with some confusing results at the other end.
gotta say though, I often havent a clue what youse are on about in the irc world LOL

General Software Discussion / Re: Basic Question on Photo Tagging
« Last post by tomos on December 12, 2008, 03:26 AM »
My preferred option has been to go the IPTC route, which theoretically gives me a choice of organisers (currently using IMatch from www.photools.com - not free).

I find the quickest and easiest way to tag my photos is with Exifer (http://www.friedeman...com/software/exifer/). The author points out that the software has ceased development and to his mind there is better software available, but it does exactly what I want - batch tagging of images

if you tag with Exifer (I didnt know it could do that!) can you "read" the tags in iMatch &/or other programmes ?

General Software Discussion / Re: need to move mouse horizontal or vertical only
« Last post by tomos on December 12, 2008, 03:12 AM »
was it here you saw it IDEA: use key to constrain mouse movements to horizontal/vertical

:) Try DragLock!

DragLock - Press the windows key to lock the mouse movement along one axis.

Features:
- Locks to the axis you start to move along.
- Rightclick the tray menu to change hotkey.

You'll find the downloads and more info at 1 Hour Software by Skrommel.

Skrommel

work well, I've used it - but only with XP - ahould work with Vista though I think
didnt know you could do that via Control Panel Sarah, must have a look :)

god, I'll never keep up with all this stuff ;D
from App I really enjoyed these
I am going to take you off the beaten path with some of these.  ;)
...
Stringfever - Bolero
...
Corporeal - All We Got
...
Godspeed You Black Emperor - Rockets Fall on Rocket Falls
the Godspeed You Black Emperor one is especially good

@40hz -
the Solas, Capercaille and Altan tracks are all great - the Solas one I hadnt heard before - I've listened to a couple of theirs now - they're making really super music!
The Karen Matheson song I find a bit "foreign" -maybe seeing as I'm irish- LOL

I think Mary Margaret O'Hara would be in better company though with somethig like the Cocteau Twins e.g. Aikea Guinea or This Mortal Coil

3) Duh, difficult question. The real reason why Amazon can't sell you music is because they also have to renegotiate the rights for the European market. While the credit card restriction is probably true (although I can buy other items from Amazon without problem), even if it wasn't, Amazon would get in trouble if they sold music to markets outside its agreement with labels and music copyright associations.

Amazon now selling mp3s in UK
http://www.amazon.co...pe_09/?node=77197031

mp3-nonUK-alert._V240075186_.gif

dont know does that include rest of Europe - I presume, as I got a mail from them & I not in UK
[but maybe not - that looks pretty definite]

what gets me about that kind of junk is that people who should know better leave all address visible and your email address ends up going around the world to god knows who (Iz grumpy today :-[ )

Superboyac - that's wonderful stuff. I've gotta admit I dont know much about jazz and have been put off by meandering improvisations that just weren't my cup of tea - but that "rocks" if I may say so  ;-)   I'm not even a very big rock music fan but you get my meaning!

Well, i have more such songs/videos links to post here, but i'm not sure if anyone is as trance addicted as me. :p
thanks for the links Mahesh, I'm loving it - working like a maniac here listening to that stuff ;D
John O'Callaghan & ATB - Summer Rain mix are favourites so far (working my way down the list - havent heard the last couple yet)

Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold
http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=ZGwDYBWEDSc
wow,
she is amazing, what a voice!

have a listen to Mary Margaret O'Hara When You Know Why You're Happy another woman with an absolutely amazing voice ... other good tracks are "Year in Song" "Bodies in Trouble" - she can be fairly eccentric btw ;-)

EDIT/ havent even looked at this page yet ...

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA batch/deferred printer
« Last post by tomos on December 09, 2008, 08:31 AM »
lately I've been printing a lot & find it disrupts
so I have turned off my printer (Canon inkjet), I print as normal, and then, when I turn on my printer, all outstanding documents get printed. [with whatever settings I chose in the printer dialogue box]
I was suprised to see that this worked even after a restart (I had forgotten there was a printer "queue")

I realise this may not be a solution for you but have you tried this with your printer?

« Last post by tomos on December 08, 2008, 05:37 PM »
great thread:- most LOL ones
(for me)
The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits. - Albert Einstein
"I feel so miserable without you; it's almost like having you here." - Stephen Bishop

I enjoyed lots of iphigenie's, in particular
Life is not lost by dying; life is lost minute by minute, day by dragging day, in all the thousand small uncaring ways.
- Stephen Vincent Benet
look, I guess this is kind of inappropriate and definitely off-topic, but a friend of mine nearly died in a car crash Saturday morning, he had his second major operation today and things are looking good - woo-hoo :-) - helps me appreciate the minutes :)
[no need to comment, just enjoy the minutes too ;)]

General Software Discussion / Re: How to share file access between two applications?
« Last post by tomos on December 08, 2008, 09:59 AM »
could you use two different config files and synchronise them now and again ? -
could be a problem if both change between synchs - the synch programme will copy the most recent and you'll lose the less recent changes
-
is there any app that would "combine" two files?

but really,
it sound like you'd need to talk to  the app developers in order to make a proper job of it...(I think!)

Living Room / Re: prize contest

This prize package contains an embarrassment of riches. We’re going to ask our contest winner to share the feeling that comes from giving magic. To enter our contest, simply reply in the comments with what part of the prize package you’d share, and with whom you’d share it (no full names please). The winner will be drawn at random from the qualified entries. So, while there’s no need for a long entry, I and others may enjoy reading them.

The holidays are a time for giving. Many organizations and individuals are in need. We recommend a donation to an organization, not an individual or relative, but the final decision is yours. If requested, we can mail your donation anywhere in the world. We also want to hear your story! If possible, take videos or photos of your recipient, along with a story of the donation. We’d like to publish it, and share your experience of giving magic.

They arent very clear what they mean by donation - do they mean the hardware that you might give to someone? (I think so)

But Southern Rock is the closest I'll ever get to listening to Country and/or Western.  :P
I (also) grew up with stuff like Christy Moore, a far cry from country but one thing can lead to another ;) (go on have a listen - it wont bite ;-)
The Ballad of an Ordinary Man
Smoke And Strong Whiskey
City of Chicago

@4WD
really enjoyed "Molly Hatchet - Fall Of The Peacemakers" (and they do a great version of Freebird)
and I think you got me listening to most of the Clash's London Calling on youtube. Rediscovered this one too - The Clash - Magnificent Seven - Tom Synder Show 1981
[edit/ forgot to add - 40hz this has to be one of the three best from Billy Idol ;-) Eyes Without a Face ]

for a bit more variety how about a bit of country :D George Jones & Elvis Costello - Stranger In The House (also 1981)

that was heavy going, really shocking really, glad something "good" happened in the end

Not sure I'd really call it a good ending, but I suppose you feel the same way and that's why you put it in quotes. ;)
well,
it was a relief that the guy stopped being the way he had been. and didnt get killed.

... can buy Softmaker Office for a much cheaper price. Could you please let us know where and for how much?

I've just discovered Softmaker -- it loads really fast and everything about it is great.

it's sold as Ashampoo Office as well - they sell it cheaper - doesnt have scripting (which I know nothing about so may be describing incorrectly) but otherwise the same I believe.

They have occasional special offers which usually get posted here - or they prob have a newsletter /they do send you lots of mail once you sign up

wow, I'm hearing so much new music here, great :D and following links to other stuff
-
Warman, hadnt heard him before, somehow led me on to The Models King Of Kings (more music from oz [edit: that I hadn't heard before]), which (again somehow) led me to Lost in a Forest by The Cure, and Love will tear us apart Joy Division (definitely a 1980-ish vibe going on for me still)

forgot to say - Deo - I really enjoyed the Lemon Jelly tracks

Zaine:
Finally, one of the strangest and most moving videos I've ever seen by Unkle called, Rabbit in your Headlights. It was sad and powerful and strangely damning. And then there's the end of the video, the part no-one forgets. The whole video is utterly cryptic. It's almost impossible to say what it means, but it's equally hard to find someone who can watch it, really watch it, and remain unmoved.
that was heavy going, really shocking really, glad something "good" happened in the end
I'm  also glad I watched the "OK Go - Here It Goes Again" one after ;D had a good laugh (phew!)

havent listened to everything yet but working my way through them, thanks for the music :-)

edit/ forgot to say 4WD - I've actaully heard "Kevin 'Bloody' Wilson" (that track in particular) on the radio somewhere - I'm presuming there was a good few beeps involved ;)
