Mostly because it is the default. Although I sometimes make is a slight shade of gray. However, I imagine using light on a dark background is better for your eyes and have often wanted to try it for an extended period of time to see if it is, but I never seem to get around to actually trying it.

« Last post by tinjaw on December 25, 2007, 04:36 AM »
Hi,
I really like this program :) . Would it be possible to make an option to run it on startup? I tried adding it to my list of startup programs, but then it opens without any entries in it.
Thanks,
Manoj

Hi Tinjaw

A possible improvement would be to have the “since“ & “until” entries be able to be grouped together rather than as they are listed on entry.
Just a click on the “days“ button could sort them out into such order if it were possible
It would make it easier reading

Just a suggestion

I have been using Eraser and I like it. The UI is a bit odd. It doesn't, I don't know, It doesn't "flow".  :-[ But it does the trick.

Also as a side note it is sad to see hardware go to waste, maybe you should think bout donating it somewhere.

We are talking completely useless stuff that has been sitting in my garage. Stuff like a 4 MEGAbyte CF card. An 8 MEGAbyte USB stick. This is all stuff you can't even buy anymore.

I am moving in the next few days. I am throwing away everything I can bare to throw away so I need no move it. This will include several Compact Flash, USB memory sticks, and hard drives. I will be physically destroying all of them, but I still want to wipe them first. I was looking at Eraser. Has anybody used it? There is plenty of freeware and open source programs of this type, so I don't want to pay for anything. What do you recomment?

Living Room / Top 10 Rejected SIMS Team Mottos
« Last post by tinjaw on December 21, 2007, 01:32 PM »
I asked our own Ralf Maximus for a top 10 list I could post at my workplace. Ralf delivered the goods. I only tweaked it a little bit.

To provide you with context, I work on a six-man team that helps the US Army keep cost down by using off the shelf games to train Army officers.

Top 10 Rejected SIMS Team Mottos

10. "Does this MOD make me look fat?"
9. "You sunk my battleship!"
8. "It takes a real man to die bravely in combat.  It takes a team of six to teach him not to do that."
7. “Answering Your Stupid Questions: With Science!"
6. "We Don't Care What You Think, Halo 3 is a Valid Training Tool."
5. “We’re not in Mom’s basement anymore!”
4. "Since you asked, yes: w00t is an official DoD acronym"
3. “We are unstoppable.  Unless power to the server room fails."
2. "Simulated combat is for the weak and timid!"  (Translated from the original Klingon)
1. "Smell that, soldier?  Napalm.  The simulated smell of victory." (If you can’t smell it please make sure the “Smell” option is checked. If it is, please reboot.)

Trust The Tinjaw. 8) Use your own webspace provided by your ISP. If you need help on how to do so, ask away!

General Software Discussion / Re: Software Ethics

I think the software vendors purchasing the licenses should vote with their money. Tell the library vendor to take a flying leap and spread the word that the library sucks. Put it up on a blog page. I used product XYZ and it sucked. The supported sucked. The developer was a jerk. So, Intarwebz, what do you recommend. Please leave a comment or a link to your own blog posting about what you use and why.

We don't need regulation. We don't need courts. We don't need "Certified Engineers" making software. We don't need lawyers drafting EULAs. We need people voting with the most powerful weapons in the know universe, money and word of mouth.

Vizacc,

a) glad to see you returned to health.
b) I feel your frustration.

epinions.com type results are worthless, because I have absolutely no clue about the reviewers experience with the domain, whether they have a grudge or a competing product, etc. But I will trust the reviews of my peers or peers of peers and so forth. Teen Warez Wannabe can tell me a product sux or rocks and I don't give a damn. However, I will trust others on this forum that have proven themselves reliable and intelligent. I will trust the likes of a Paul Graham, Jeff Atwood, or Jon Udell. And there are many levels in between.

Software ethics are no different than ethics in any other profession. Many people don't have them.

Sounds like using your ISP-provided web space is the best solution. You FTP the files up and provide an HTTP link for people to download.

You can use a private key and set your SSHD to only accept keys as login. Then you need not worry about somebody getting your password. You just need to keep your password to your private key a secret. And, if you store your key on a usb stick, then you keep the key separate from the laptop. This way nobody ever has both. And your key is passPHRASE (hint hint) protected, so even if you lose the usb stick, your key is protected long enough to give you time to notice and generate a new one.

How big is the file? How long does it need to remain available? A week? A year? 20 years?
