Anytime.  :)

I understand what you are saying. IMHO, it's really about what you want to do/focus on. A person who needs just one task does not always need the full-blown alternative. Some prefer to pay for software A instead of spending some hours to learn software B (that delivers the same or "enough" results).

So... alternatives are great! :)

Agreed!

A "decent option."  Given your expressed propensity to be particular, that rates pretty high.  Works for me.

Does that include any s/w that is coded by any DC member and posted on DC will be under the DC policy?

It is said that ones of simple and unaware demeanor rapidly advance to the interior where a celestial host is intimidated to take a stroll.  Matt, I'll take that advice.

I am always somewhat dismayed when a thread becomes a "this" vs "that."  I am not referring to a debate, but more along the "my [fil in the blank] is better than your [fill in the blank]" kind of tone.  I have used both and each has strengths and weaknesses.  The best thing  ( i am parroting others here) to do is to try each.  I also think that it is not necessary for everyone to have the full-blown set-up in every case.  A little may work just peachy for a few or even many.

My experience with AM is it is intuitive and solid; on the other hand, the Proxomitron gives me the power to re-write any part of the Internet (even DC) to my own tastes, but it does take a fair amount of work.

This is a very good place to expose one's ignorance.  One is always corrected gently and without condescension.  Great stuff!

Farmsteader: that's true, ntfs does support encryptation, but it's not out-of-the box. You have to configure it (somehow, i don't know how to do it). I own an external disk, formated in NTFS and i've used it in 2 computers without it prompting me for any password.
...

Thanks!  At least now I know I have had a good day... I learned something. :)

What about a non-technical solution, like putting the external hdd in a small fireproof box.  They all come with keys which AFAIK must be locked to stay closed.  That way you wouldn't have to answer any, "what, you don't trust me" kind of questions.

Can you get a external that is already formatted NTFS?  AFAIK, NTFS would be secure.

If I'm not mistaken, that is why NTFS was created?  If you're using a NTFS formatted drive that should be all you need?

I have some questions, like if there is "DC Software" "who is "DC?" Actually, I am not really worried about that because I know more about you guys and I have confidence.  I would like a clarification about what is "DC Software?"

That sounds real handy!  FYI - sometimes it takes a little while, but you will get help and this will be done.  A bunch of real smart and helpful folks hang out at DC.

This has been something i have gone over a lot.  I looked at the 100% anytime option, but didn't choose it because I thought that it lacked a potential for "weeding out" uncommitted customers.  What I mean by "uncommitted" are those people that are just toying with "some new thing" and if your site/product happens to be on their screen, "it's time to play!"  They will d/l it and install. Yes, there is certainty that a percentage of these will be real customers, but a very, very small percentage.

I might consider a 100% option for a limited time like app103 detailed above, but a liftime 100% still requires a fund to be viable if refunds come in  5 years later, much less 20.

This all assumes you will have good cash flow in 20 years.  What if you are flat broke and someone asks for their lifetime refund?  Now you have to play the numbers and always keep a particular balance in the bank to cover eventual and possible refunds.

100% Lifetime refunds are a noble gesture, but the real-world ramifications are just that, "real."

App's model is pretty close to mine, besides the more people commit themselves (think: data), the more valuable the the software becomes and the less valuable the $39.95 will be to that person.  A win-win situation to be sure.

Parsec (TI99-4A)  Since I worked for T.I. I had access to games for the TI99-4A before they were available to the public and BEFORE the games were burned on ROM cartridges.

When Parsec first came out there was no cart.  I copied the code into RAM (no offline storage) line-by-line for many hours into the "99" I borrowed from the assembly line (it was authorized by my boss) one weekend just so I could play the game for about forty mins. Talk about your law of diminishing return! :P

Oddly, the "Parsec" I coded and played was NOT this one below, even though they were both T.I. products.  The "Parsec" I played had a space station in the middle of the screen and the aliens would come in from north, south, east and west with ever greater speed and frequency until you succumbed and you would eventually succumb!...

Have you ever been able to automate input to OmnniPage?  What I mean is have you ever batched a job where you created a text file, etc. that was then able to be read into OmniPage and used OmniPage to create the final, searchable doc?  We used to do this in college...
895
Well I make full use of escape as it is. If you are in results list and hit Esc you go back to the search bar.

The only small improvement I want for Escape is when I return to the search bar to have the previous search highlighted. Now the cursor stays at the end of search text. Please make it to highlight all the searched text so that the new search starts immediately.

Excellent suggestion, but I think someone beat you to it.  My FARR does this already!  What version do you have... mine is 2.00.35?

Mouser - per chance, is there a setting for this behavior?

I'll be on the lookout!

I've contacted two different companies ( not the icon ones) about expired s/w explaining that I was associated with DC and how I wanted to use the product and why I chose them over the competition. ... Try the links on DC first and see if they still work.  If not, just write and ask if they will still honor the offer.  Can't hurt
898
It will be a nice experiment.  :D
