It looks cute :)

Wit sounds and scoring system and animated sharkies and whatnot it might become "better" or grow totally out of proportions :) Where do you want to go with this game?

And another idea for feature-bloat: can users add their own fishies or divers, treasure chests or so?

I want to see more!

People should donate rather than click on ads.

f0dder, which editor have you learned to love then? Maybe it has a desert color scheme too?

Thinner might work too, but can't be considered harmless... Aren't there supposed to be bacteria that eat CDs, at least the part that holds the actual data?

How about, members must opt-in to have ads displayed? They have to consciously decide "yes I want to see ads". That way, visitors won't see em, and thus won't be driven off.

it has to be dark, gray at least!

Attached I have a current screenshot of my desktop, showing xchat and vim. You can see I usually have lighter colors on a darker background.

I am more and more inclined to back up my data, and then reinstall my OS using a crypto-container this time. And I am thinking about encrypting all data that leaves my computer. Well not so much "data" as files.

I think I have been careless in some areas in the past...

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Better Bookmark Manager for FireFox
« Last post by housetier on December 25, 2007, 06:09 PM »
If you use flock from flock.com you will have a tagging bookmark thingie built into the browser. And there are several bookmark addons available for firefox (for flock as well); however, some of these require an account with one of the many "social bookmarking" sites, for example magnolia, delicious, spurl, gmark, weave, and many more.

I admit I am not very sure whether or not there is an addon that will let you organize bookmarks with tags and doesn't require such a web service.

I used to use delicious, and then switched to magnolia, because their website looks prettier. These days I am using "GMarks" with my firefox 3 beta.

Using an online bookmark storage will let you synchronize your bookmarks too. :) But you will have to trust someone with your bookmarks.

I wonder if it's possible to replace this one widget. I mean most applications make use of the standard windows widget set, which, I guess, is uhm stored in a .dll. Now if someone were to re-implement it and install it in such a way windows would find it...

I don't know if it can be done easily. I am sure it is possible with an uncertain amount of hackery.

Would something that tags your bookmarks be acceptable?

You should provide the program if you want people to tell you something about it. :)

For all I know, the image could have been made in <insert you favorite pixelpusher here>... If you give them the .exe, I am sure some will respond.

Too bad though, so many of these applications are based on flash. Doing it in AJAX would have impressed me a lot more. I am so superonline I am always on the look out for new sites'n'services, lifehack.org is a site I'll be monitoring :)

And if you want to download fonts you can do so at dafont.com. Many of their fonts are completely free, some are free for personal use, and some have a sophisticated license.

It might not be the largest collection of fonts, but I found the site very usable.

hmm maybe its feature-bloat... on some forums I have seen a glossary of sorts. so when people write "NANY" in a forum post, and a moderator/admin has defined such a word in the glossary, the user will see the short(!) explanation when hovering over it.

In many cases I have seen, it's used for advertisement, but I think it could be useful for all the abbreviations that are used here...

I think the reviews section should get more attention; that is it needs newer reviews and more mentioning. The make a lot of work though...

Just an idea :)

Some desktop applications start mimicking web applications too: I can tag files in my file manager, or when I type something in a search box I immediately see suggestions or even results. There is an addon for thunderbird, that makes it behave more like google mail...

It has just begun :) Although I think it will take more time for graphics tools to catch up to the online world, one day the applications will be separate from the computer.

Maybe you can find a clue in the event log, wherever that is hidden...

Jeff Atwood over at Coding Horror muses about digital certificates and the security they are said to provide. I am mentioning this to raise awareness about uhm "digital security" (even though your government wants you to be aware of terrorists instead).

Digital Certificates can be safe and secure, but they can also easily be forged, and the average user has a hard time figuring it out. So, not only should you look out for the lock symbols, but also you shouldn't be carefree once the lock is locked.

Provide as little information as possible, change your passwords frequently, use different passwords for each site/service.

In another recent thead some of our dear users are talking about encrypting, and thus protecting, data on the harddisk. It seems a little bit windows-specific, so I can't recommend all their tools, but I think I should mention them.

It's your data and you should protect it!
