Google has plenty of good products, gmail, search...the usual. But their ad network and analytics are not in that category. The analytics, used by many webmasters and therefore potentially affecting many sites (even counting the 'place the code in the footer' trick) is one of the most overrated online tools.

Same as above.
I use encryption locally (via TrueCrypt) more than any other form.

I can't answer that without moving the thread to the basement  :P

Seriously though, coordination existed and is being crushed ... unions.
The majority, not saying you, of the people that laugh at the third party idea are the ones that could help create it, by doing something instead of laughing. The people in power that will be most harmed by third party are not laughing but are happy that 'you' are laughing about it.

Two words: Third party.
More words: Only people can make that happen and they can.

In the wake of the Snowden Revelations it's all moot.

Now is the time to stop finger pointing and trying to fix blame. Especially since it should be fairly obvious by now that everybody was in on it - including the public itself for its continuing refusal to face the present reality.

Who really cares what's been done? Or by whom at this point. The big question - the real question - is what we're going to do about this nightmare we've allowed to become real.

This.

Makes for very sad listening, the people (the populace at large) still do have it in their hands though.

I am concerned about underpaying. $1 or $2 overpaying is fine.

Is it known how much I need to add for postage?

Community Giveaways / WriteMonkey key

I have one extra donor key that was kindly offered to me by the developer to give to a friend.

The donor key unlocks plugins that are new to its version 2.5 (plugin details, still in early stage of existence, can be seen on WriteMonkey's what's new page @ http://writemonkey.com/new.php)

Must be supporting member here at DC, first one to send me a PM. I need a full name and email.

Edit:
Of course other established and long standing members are included as well, for example charter members and others

If you haven't tried it yet ... sometimes, despite what is 'normal', these things should be pasted or typed in WordPress' text input and the not visual one

My experience has been that I need improvement more with the modem and physical layer than the router itself so I try to stay away from Tomato et al

Ok. I opened up a Smashwords account and bought me a copy!

Just loaded it up on my hand-me-down Nook. (EPub looks fantastic - love the cover!) Looking forward to spending some quality time with this.

And just think, when K-Man moves into the sci-fi big leagues someday, we can all say "Hey! I know that guy...we used to rap about books over at this place called Donation Coder..."

We need autographed hard copies before that happens :D

The range you mentioned is nothing to be frowned upon, for any non-profit site of any size.
FWIW, I find myself having less and less of a problem with ads online, if a time comes when it is a necessary evil then so be it.

I think it would be good. WordPress has its own odd ways. When a 'static' page is set to be the front page then the link to blog posts is not readily available.

If you decide to do it:

Add a new page and give it a title ("Blog"?) only with no content, publish it
Go to Settings, Reading and set the Blog page to "Posts Page" (already using the 'static page' and 'Front page' settings)
Finally need to add the page to the menu. Appearance -->Menus, click the page and add it to menu

You also probably need an easier method or link (via menu) for visitors to access your blog posts instead of just seeing the latest 5 in the sidebar?

You can have a contact form in the side bar using the same plugin (or move the floating one to top right of the page)
