According to the Express Edition FAQ you have been ill informed about using it for commercial projects. See here:

http://www.microsoft...ort/Support-faq.aspx

it says:

Can I use Express Editions for commercial use?
Yes, there are no licensing restrictions for applications built using Visual Studio Express Editions.

If I had $700 to spend (which I have not) and wouldn't want to wait until early next years arrival of Android-based competition (which I probably will) I'd buy an iPad. I think it's a nice device for what you (and me, and everyone else ;) ) want to use it for. My main complaints with it: somewhat restrictive concerning data-syncing (iTunes etc.), price and weight. I don't mean to say that the price would not be justified, or that it's too heavy to use. I'd rather like both of these attributes to be a bit lower ;)

This is one of the reasons why I'm so hesitant to release any of my stuff as open source. It all becomes so complicated.

It might not be the most trivial of solutions: maybe Eric's part can be re-implemented? I don't really know if that would solve the problem, nor how different a re-implementation would have to be to count as such.

Unless, of course, you are British. Then I expect you to be civil and courteous even as you are scolding me and calling me an idiot.
Linus Torvalds is Finnish. I don't think that explains his attitude though ;). So far, the Finnish people I have met were all very friendly :).

I agree with you that the context should certainly not be neglected. Nevertheless, c'est le ton qui fait la musique.

Anyone of you guys had any experiences (good or bad) with model driven development (using tools like IBM's Rhapsody)? I'm interested in aspects like efficiency, mastering tool complexity (learning curve), round-tripping, developer acceptance, management acceptance, comparison with CAD, etc. whatever comes to mind.

I'm also interested in opinions of people with no MDD experience.

I agree with ecaradec. It's really cool that you have done this ewemoa!  :Thmbsup:

I've wanted to look into lua for a long time, have several times considered using it for work even, and have read quite a bit about it too (I confess: I'm a big fan of the Game Programming Gems series :)).

I promise I'll check this stuff out as soon as I manage to come loose from Red Dead Redemption ;)

I think SimPL seems about right for e.g. N.A.N.Y. kind of projects, should one choose to open source them (thinking about this thread).

Any other news on the license front?

Thanks Hastur for the report and a warm welcome to the donationcoder forums :)

What you found is one of FarrWMS's weaknesses. Unfortunately, when a web site changes the format of its pages, regexes can get "out of date". The same happened to the MSDN search a while back (and I'm still working on fixing it). TimeAndDate is one of the searches Perry made. I'll ask him if he can check it out.

I'll look into the runtime error, if I can reproduce it (will try tomorrow).

Probably not the most objective reason: but I think I'll consider looking at Bazaar or Mercurial instead of git because (judging from the transcript) I just don't like Linus' arrogant and unfriendly attitude.

Not doubting that Linus is an intelligent guy, I'm asking myself if it is also because of this attitude that he became so successful, or if instead he developed this attitude because of his immense success.

« Last post by phitsc on July 17, 2010, 04:35 PM »
There's no chance I could read a book in 14 days. Well, maybe if I ditched my Playstation ;)

Concerning book availability: when, a few months ago, I was checking if any of the books I had just read were available for the Kindle, actually none of them were (and some of them were not even new titles). Now, a few months later, most of them are. Well, most of the English ones anyway.

It is strange to me because IIRC in some of my plugins I use "resolve:%PLUGINDIR%" via callback_get_strvalue successfully.  I wonder what's going on...

I'm using "resolvefile:". Will check if it makes a difference.

I completely agree with your findings mouser. I've been owning a Kindle 2 (i.e. the small one) for a few months now and I really love reading on it. I agree that it sucks for reference books. I think it's suboptimal for programming books (the DX might be better in this respect). It absolutely rocks for novels.

Apart from the display and its consequences (eye comfort, viewing angle, battery life, etc.) what I love most about it are its size/form factor, the dictionary lookup feature (non-native English speaker here) and the fact that I can carry several books with me in such a small (and light) package. This was maybe the main reason for me to get one in the first place. Where this comes in handy is when going on holiday. I usually take a few novels, a few programming books and a few magazines with me on holiday. Programming books are usually quite heavy and bulky too. An ebook reader solves this problem nicely.

And I second mouser's old classics tip. I've already read a few of those. The last one I read has become one of my favourite novels: The Count of Monte Cristo. Man how I wish I was able to read that in French :)

BTW, I don't know if I mis-tested or I'm doing something wrong but I'm not finding the following sort of thing to be working now:

searchUrl=%PLUGINDIR%\searches\ahkscriptlisting.html

I get a popup informing me about not finding a file at: <driveletter>:\searches\ahkscriptlisting.html

For reference, the following seems to work:

searchUrl=%FARRDIR%\Plugins\FarrWebMetaSearch\searches\ahkscriptlisting.html

and the following too:

Plugins\FarrWebMetaSearch\searches\ahkscriptlisting.html

May be I've messed up somewhere...

Yes, I confirm this. It seems like FARR does not replace the %PLUGINDIR% variable correctly.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FARR plugin: FarrWebMetaSearch 1.4.2
« Last post by phitsc on July 09, 2010, 04:42 AM »
Out of curiosity, why did you decide to make the relative path relative to where the .exe is -- as compared with where the FarrWebMetaSearch plugin lives?
Öhhhm, ähhhm, well ... to be honest, I didn't even think about that. Just took whatever was easiest. The difference just being passing NULL or some variable to a Win32 API function. If relative from where the plugin lives would be more convenient to you, I can certainly change that :)

Thanks for the local file feature!
You are very welcome!

Thanks for your continued attention and consideration regarding this, btw :)
I just take you as a shining example :)

I've boldly uploaded version 1.6.0 so you can use DCUpdater to update to the current version (if DCUpdater works with your setup).

Searching local files should now work with both relative paths (relative to where FindAndRunRobot.exe is) and FARR virtual folder variables. I've not implemented user variables.

from the help file:

searchUrl
This can be either a local file or a web page. For web pages, start with http://, for local files, either use an absolute path (e.g. c:\temp\somefile.txt), a relative path (e.g. ..\..\temp\somefile.txt) which will be resolved relative to where FindAndRunRobot.exe is, or use any of the FARR virtual folder variables (.e.g %MYDOCUMENTS%\somefile.txt).

Let me know if it works or not. If it doesn't, enable the log file with wms !Enable Logging. Then check the log file with wms !Open log file.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FARR plugin: FarrWebMetaSearch 1.4.2
« Last post by phitsc on July 06, 2010, 09:46 AM »
I much prefer not to place absolute file paths into my configuration files -- so for example, if I change the location of my FARR installation I wouldn't have to modify my configuration files to change file path information recorded within.
Ah yes, you mentioned that but I forgot. I think you said using FARR user variables would be ok?

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FARR plugin: FarrWebMetaSearch 1.4.2

I'd like to be able to specify local files for searchUrl (e.g. for a local copy of the autohotkey script listing page).

Is it possible to do this already and if so, is there a way to do it without specifying absolute paths?

You mean instead of searching in a file downloaded from the web, you want to search in a local file?
Any chance you might be motivated to work on this?

I'd like to use it for things like:

  http://www.stoicjoke...ain.php?Target=WinXP

Turns out this is already possible with the current version. I did the following:

* Open the above mentioned URL in my Web Browser
* View page source and copy it into an .html file (Save Page As... made some nasty line breaks into the file which would have made the regexing a bit difficult)
* Created a new FarrWMS .conf file that looks like this:

description=Windows XP Keyboard Shortcuts
searchUrl=C:\Temp\Xp Keyboard Shortcuts.htm
resultPattern=<tr>\s*<td [^>]*>([^<]*)</td>\s*<td [^>^]*>([^<]*)</td>
farrCaption=$2
farrGroup=$1
farrPath=$1
isFeed=true

and it works!

Now the question is: does this already solve your problem, or did you have something else / more in mind?

Alt + Space opens the active window's 'System Menu' (don't know if that's what it's called), i.e. the one to move, resize, etc. the window. This menu is essential in cases where a window goes off the screen and can't be grabbed with the mouse any more ;)     (sorry, just saw that this was mentioned numerous times by my fellow pre-posters)

I used to use Win + Space. But Windows 7 now uses this for something (can't remember for what right now). So I changed all of my boxes to use Win + Alt + Space. As you'll notice, these three buttons all lie next to each other, so you could even hit them with one hand only.
