I just read something about it on Digg yesterday, new footage or something... didn't see it but my guess is, it's 5 minutes of some old dude screaming at the kids and waving his cane around, trying to keep them off his lawn.

Yeah, I saw footage of Duke Nukem Forever about 15 years ago.

Duke Nukem Forever, anyone?
Confirmed for 2008 http://www.pcwelt.de..._confirmed_for_2008/ - LOL  :-\

I'll believe it when I see it. :) Not that I'm even interested in Duke Nukem anymore. It was cool when I was 12... But that sort of macho character isn't really that likeable anymore, in my opinion.

Living Room / Re: $10 cell phone?

That actually looks like my kind of phone! None of that extra carp with text messages and cameras and videos and game.

A cell phone is not a piece of technology I enjoy using. I hate phones!

Although I think I would miss the built in address book. That's a useful feature that kind of requires a screen.

General Software Discussion / Re: Unlock files because of sharing violations

I really could have used this a few days ago. Nothing but a reboot seems to unlock some files sometimes.

Thanks!

If it is a recovery partition, then you should be able to just reinstall Windows from that partition if you press the right button as it boots up.

I'm not sure if it was done this way, but you can select the boot method by pressing F12 on bootup and try finding the recovery partition or diags or something through that menu.

Living Room / Re: Why I could never buy a Dell or HP computer (rant)
« Last post by Deozaan on June 04, 2008, 04:38 PM »
Deozaan, This has nothing to do with me being military. I am talking about systems I have purchased for my HOME USE, NOT BUSINESS.

There are organizations that have large contracts so that anybody who buys a Dell through them get very nice technical support contracts with Dell. These include military, corporations, universities, and others. Even if the computers are for home use (i.e. students ordering a computer through their university) they still get the awesome contract.

That said, I obviously don't know how you ordered your computer, but just because you bought it for home use that doesn't necessarily exclude you from one of those nice tech support contracts that come from being in the military.

And with this line:

and if it breaks I can have it fixed without any out of pocket expense.

It makes me think that you DO have one of those nice contracts. Whether you got it through the military or you paid the extra money to get it, you've got a very nice support contract.

I was just signing up for a Twitter account and had to type in a ReCaptcha phrase to prove that I'm a human. Well, seems like this one wanted to prove that I'm a man.

Yeah, and members of the military get really good technical support contracts with Dell.

it does feel wrong, but it is SO useful, i use it mainly for open-in-a-new-tab in firefox, but have also found other uses for it.

In my opinion, Ctrl+click for the same purpose is more intuitive.

Or using mouse gestures, just right click and drag up to open a blank tab, or perform the rightclick on a link and drag up to open it in a new tab. Now that's easy!

I build my own desktops, but if I were to get a laptop it would be from some brand. Probably Dell.

But the first thing I'd do is format and install a fresh copy of the OS.

Personally I hate the feel of pushing the mouse scroll wheel "button" -- to me it just seems wrong that this is a button, and i refuse to use it as such.  But I recognize some of you might not be quite so obstinate..

I feel the same way! I hate clicking the wheel button!

So imagine my displeasure when I started messing around with a 3D editor that predominately used the wheel button for manipulating the viewpoint. :-(

Living Room / Re: Drinking Vinegar?
« Last post by Deozaan on June 01, 2008, 09:56 PM »
I've seen this thread and even have heard some discussions in IRC about this topic over the past couple days.

One thing I find very curious is that most of us here seem to be absolutely disgusted by the idea of drinking vinegar, with many of us saying it can't be good for the body. Yet how many of us don't think twice about drinking alcohol? It's a product known for liver damage, addiction, and other undesirable side effects, yet I would venture to guess that most people in this thread drink alcoholic beverages at least a couple of times a week.

The ten listed on that site were pretty good.

I'll just add to that: Just about anything that bundles other software, especially toolbars, is among the most annoying.

Skrommel is obviously a traitor to programmers!

Q. Any advice you’d give to new programmers?
A: Get some sleep! And a girlfriend!

Everybody knows that programmers wouldn't get anything done with sleep and a girlfriend!

I'd like to see the distinction between those who have only heard of it and those who have actually tried it in the poll.

Living Room / Re: Flash Game of the Week: Robokill
« Last post by Deozaan on May 31, 2008, 11:22 PM »
Okay I just beat it. That last mission was actually a bit challenging, but with no penalty for dying other than sometimes robots reclaiming a room, I had no fear of death. I only died a few times.

One strategy I found was that if you clear a room before destroying any of the orange cargo containers (which seem to contain nothing besides traps anyway) you get the shield recharge bonus. Then if you destroy a container with a trap, the room locks again and when you destroy the trap you get the recharge bonus again. That worked pretty well since most of the time the trap was a weakling spider or enemy that could do no harm if you let it crawl in your face for five minutes. :)

I'm not sure if I'd buy it though. It was by far the best Flash game I've ever played, but $10 is actually a significant purchase to me right now and there are all kinds of other games being released these days for around the same price vying for my dollar. I'm looking at you, WiiWare!

Although, if the stupid Defend Your Castle can make it to WiiWare, I see no reason why Robokill couldn't. I might actually enjoy this game more if I could use the Wii Pointer to aim and the nunchuck to drive around.

In fact, I pledge right now to buy Robokill for Wii if it ever makes it. I'll even buy it twice so I can "gift" it to my brother.

I finally had some time to give it a try today. Pretty good game so far. The first two missions were way too easy but the third missions has about a good challenge to it. The only time I've actually died is when I accidentally walked off a ledge into the abyss somewhere.

Seems good so far.

the vampire image was merely pointing out the woman's face (the eyes and the expression that implies shes is about to bite someones neck).

I dunno. She looks friendly to me. Her teeth aren't even very pointy.

looking at that site i'd be inclined to say that some images are NOT photoshopped - which, to me, means the jokes on them.

I agree. I don't see anything wrong with this one other than the fact that it looks like a stupid movie. And this biker one seems like it could be a legitimate photo.

JoTo has pointed out to me this thread Rename Files with Incremental Timestamp which seems to address the same problem. I didn't realize it was a problem with SD cards. I thought the file browser libraries for homebrew were just set up funny.
8273
Lately I've been getting into the homebrew scene with my Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS.

A strange thing I've noticed in particular with Wii Homebrew is that files and folders are often sorted by the creation date instead of alphabetically. So if I happen to copy over TyrianWii before Asteroids, then Asteroids is on the bottom.

So what I would like is an application that will just modify the creation dates and timestamp of files and folders to get them to sort alphabetically.

Required features:

1) It should handle both directories and individual files.
2) Ideally it should recurse subdirectories. Or make it very easy to navigate a file system and sort all folders & files in a certain directory.

I've heard of something for linux or possibly mac called a Poke that would change the date, but I'm not sure what it is or how it works, and I'm on Windows XP, so it's not an option for me.
8274
If I turn off the Recursive feature, it won't update a folder. For example, in my games directory where all games are installed, I would like the first directory of a game to show the game's icon, but I don't need it to search every subdirectory for data, music, bin, src etc and change those icons.

But turning off recursive results in 0 folders updated.

A lot of these are really funny but there are also a lot of them I just don't understand. There's a big area circled and some commentary, but I don't see the problem.

Like this one: Vampire Insurance?
