General Software Discussion / Re: diagnostic tool
« Last post by kalos on August 22, 2014, 02:17 PM »
I know for sure that there isn't a network problem or my hardware being weak or something.

How do you know this?  What steps or tests have you taken to eliminate these two things?

because the same problem happens even when I connect via different networks
and my hardware is well above the required specs

hello!

I have a Dell 1250c laser colour printer and few days ago it started printing faintly.
I changed the black toner, but it still prints faintly.

What could be the problem?

Thanks!

hello!

I play an online game and I get extreme lag. I know for sure that there isn't a network problem or my hardware being weak or something. So I assume there is a software conflict, like some software (antivirus? backup? anything else?) access the files of the game and causes this problem.

How can I find it, instead of by trial and error, ie. disabling software and testing?

Is there a tool that will list all the processes that access particular files or a particular folder?

any other idea?

thanks!

Although I have not personally used it, it looks like Sahi has all of the features that you are looking for.

General Software Discussion / web automation
« Last post by kalos on July 18, 2014, 11:48 AM »
hello

for Windows automation, Autohotkey seems quite powerful

but what about web automation? like simulate clicks, checks, web actions like select text, save text, save files, open links, etc

many years ago when I researched this field, there were limited options

Selenium, Greasemonkey, Chickenfoot, etc existed, but none had any straightforward powerful web automation approach, well developed as Autohotkey (with numerous commands and event triggers for pretty much everything)

any update?

thanks!

Hello!

I am generally satisfied by Bitcasa, but it interferes with an online game I play and it makes it sluggish!

So, is there any alternative?

That will monitor and maintain an cloud back up of specific local files and folders?

Free please!

Thanks!

I have been extremely satisfied by DC forum, but I thought general PC troubleshooting wouldn't fit with its thematology

I asked this question, because yesterday I had a problem with "Wi-Fi" doesn't have a valid IP configuration".
And we all know how extremely frustrating is not to be able to connect to the internet.
I searched google, and the web is full of posts for solution to this problem.
There are numerous replies, even numerous youtube videos, how to "solve" it, but the majority is total bullshit!
Numerous requests to post whole sheets of logs, run cmd commands, do this, do that, etc! all bullshit!

And after searching alot, I came across this brilliant post...

A brilliant post saying that you just need to reboot your router! And all done!
And this person wasn't even thanked for this post!

General Software Discussion / which forums you use for PC troubleshooting?
« Last post by kalos on July 08, 2014, 02:01 PM »
hello!

I used to use a forum, I don't remember its name, but now it's pretty much dead

Also, some other "famous" forums, like Tomshardware, are populated by kiddies and noobs, I never encountered a really useful advice there.

Any decent forums for PC troubleshooting, where they are frequented by really knowledgeable people who respond quickly?

thanks!

General Software Discussion / record screen
« Last post by kalos on July 08, 2014, 01:50 PM »
hello!
can you recommend me please a good freeware without limitations to record screen?

I tried Camstudio and apart from installing NetCrawl spyware without asking me, it failed to record! It said something like AVI compressor could not be used, use default instead? I clicked OK and it reopened the dialog box. Miserable failure....

Thanks!

Living Room / can you help me please with my interview?
« Last post by kalos on April 28, 2014, 09:54 AM »
Hello!

Can you help me please with my interview?

I am about to give this interview for an organization and I will be asked to give evidence about the following, using the STAR technique for interviews (Situation, Task, Action Result).

  • Core Competence – Collaborating and Partnering
  • Core Competence – Leading and Communicating
  • Core Competence – Delivering at Pace
  • Knowledge about the organization
  • Understanding of the key features of a system

I have already done my research and I attempted to answer the questions, but I would like input from other people, in order to combine opinions and come up with improvements in my responses.

So can you tell me please what you would mention for the above subjects?

Your answer would be nice to be specific (ie. specific examples) but also a general plan of your response would be ok, eg. regarding 'knowledge of the organization' one could include the number of employees, the budget, the goals, etc.

Thanks!
