i think part of the quick resolution was that i had to change my security details before i had full access to my account. so, no worries there.

i use strong passwords for all sensitive/financial websites so, i'm not convinced that my account has been accessed without something tracking my actions somehow. why?..

...i use Roboform, Roboform Online (beta) to access my own online accounts (i don't even know my passwords without checking Roboform first). that, to me, appears to be the only weak link in the chain - i don't ever type out my passwords so i don't believe there's a keylogger at work here - Roboform does everything.

obviously, i've no idea really. i thought i'd made things secure - i may delete the Roboform on-line beta account. I'll be changing quite a few passwords today - just in case there is something i've overlooked.

i know we all want simple answers to this kind of security scare so that it all makes sense, i just can't see exactly where i could have made a mistake - other than to use scanning software that doesn't tell me enough about what could be wrong with my machine, and using an online "secure" service for storing sensitive information that isn't really "secure".

i'm more inclined to believe this is some kind of PayPal scam - like a refund request by the fraudster for something i never bought. i'll have to see if i can make sense of what happened.
827
agreed, it's an old routine for us (around here) but any new "netizens" should always log into their online accounts (or anything they have to log into) via the official web address - never a link.

but, yes, it is a worry. how did they access my PayPal account. i only do so, myself, on this machine - which isn't infected to my knowlege (running scans again now). this sale had definitely gone through my PayPal account - it doesn't look like my credit card has been charged. whether that is because PayPal suspected something or whether it just hasn't been charged yet - i don't know.

when i said the seller was from Algeria, it may have been that the item was meant to be posted to Algeria. it's a bit confusing looking at the statement. perhaps this is what automatically flagged it by PayPal. probably the fact that i'd not bid for the item using my eBay account also made it suspicious.

the big problem is: how to prevent this kind of thing happening again. i'm careful online...

...is that still not good enough?

828
oh, just got an email back from PayPal. not bad service, that was quick - i only disputed the transaction about an hour ago.

hopefull that's the end of it.

(the thought of the iPhone 4 will now leave me even more traumatised than it did already.)
829
i've been away a couple of days without net access, on returning i see that i'm currently going through the process of having a PayPal transaction disputed for me - for an item i certainly didn't attempt to buy, an iPhone 4 at 975 dollars. i mean, yeah, like i've secretly always wanted one.

hopefully it will be resolved quickly. i've no idea how they've done it, the "seller" claimes to be from Algeria and i've meant to have been the winning bidder via eBay. strange that my eBay account displays no history about this "seller" or the iPhone they have fraudulently sold me.

what disturbs me (currently) is that this is meant to be an eBay related transaction and yet it isn't in my eBay records. how on earth is this thief doing it (don't answer; don't give anyone any tips if you already know).

PayPal is obvioulsy thinking along the same lines otherwise they wouldn't have flagged the transaction for investigation. now i just have to wait for the "seller" to reply to PayPal with their version of the story. i'm hoping this doesn't drag out into some kind of Kafkaesque dispute where i have to prove i didn't bid on an item that never passed through my eBay account.

final word? hmm, still time to change your mind, superboyac.

a nice new toy, that's not a budget killer?

something to try other o/s's with?

sounds like the tc1100 machine. on ebay, less than $300. buy it, play with it, sell it - maybe even for a small profit.

not moving forward? is it just the touch screen project that is abandoned or everything?

(keep the donation by the way - or give to DC if it makes you feel better.)

i've been a subscriber to cyriak's youtube stuff for quite a while. i don't know if his stuff is unique or part of a genre - the videos are some kind of new art form either way - like the future of MTV in five years time; and all other TV stations another five years after that.

i am fascinated by how much planning must go into the vids - i wonder how much is manual laborious editing and how much automated Adobe After Effects type sub routines.

I've been too busy with my toy  :-[  I have a couple of posts worth of info to put up there... I've updated with one, and I'll try to get to the actual unit and my initial experiences tonight.  Though there are definite pros and cons, I'm very satisfied so far.  The only area that's a real bummer (though I sort of expected that) is battery life, though I'm not sure if it's the battery.  I'm thinking about getting a new one to see- and since they're hot swappable, it might be a good idea anyway.  And there's always the SSD option, which I've heard massively improves battery life.

okay, sounds good. i look forward to reading the blog updates.

i won't have the tablet until some time next week as the current owner is putting XP Tablet and Ubuntu onto the drive - but they can't do it until the weekend  :(

i've just bought a TC1100 from ebay, i.e. i'm the winning bidder, it hasn't been posted to me yet.

once i saw that it had a pressure sensitive pen i decided it was worth a gamble. it will be used for web browsing but i hope to use it for sketching too. I've already got a Wacom Cintiq 1200 that doesn't get used much due to the inconvenience of it not being very portable (you have to drag a pc around with it); so, i'm expecting the TC1100 to be more "fun" to use.

the person selling it was using Ubuntu, which they recommended over XP Tablet Edition. i've not looked into it but it sounds like there might be a lot of "iPad" features already available with the right Ubuntu setup. i'll look into all that after i've seen the XP Tablet system working.

anything else interesting and i'll report back.

i hope you discover a lot of nice things with the tablet too, wraith808. i see your blog hasn't any real news yet.

that first video it pretty incredible. if you had just shown a small clip of it and told me it was CGI i'd have believed it - i've not seen any cats behave like that (maybe i don't know enough cats) they almost look unnatural.

i'm impressed.

Living Room / Android and iPhone differences - a webcomic

I Can't Draw Feet (webcomic):

just noticed something that means i think i'll not be wasting any more time with this Vista-Aero theme...

my address bar doesn't display the correct URL for the matching tab. sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. that's not something i'm going to put up with so it's bye-bye Mr. Theme.

(i imagine that the theme may well work perfectly on its own - could just be a conflict with another extension i've got.)
839
i'm not sure if i'm liking the coloured grouping tabs that Vista-Aero provides or not. i've disabled everything it enables by default, then i've installed this https://addons.mozil.../firefox/addon/5992/ to disable a few more of the defaults and...

then disabled the colouring that TabMixPlus once did - unread tabs now have underline titles and read have italic titles, current is bold. using red to colour the titles didn't seem to work.

this would seem like the "best of both worlds" but i'm not sure that i like the IE colouring now i've tried it. it doesn't seem entirely unique either. it looks like a fresh newly opened tab takes on the colour of group already opened rather than grabbing it's own unique colour - not sure if IE does that itself.

i don't mind this "persona" so much - maybe there's a way to edit the grey/blue background.

edit:
another mistake then: looks like this Vista-Aero thing is a "theme" not just a "persona". i'll look at "theme" creation to see if it's obvious how to change things.
840
umm, i've just realised what you mean. what i did doesn't have any use for currently opened tabs. oh well, i thought i'd found something - seems not.

just looking at this Vista-Aero thing. looks interesting - will install it now.
841
i didn't realise IE used different shades for read and unread. hmm, i did want my FF tabs to behave like IE tabs - now you've said that they using shading i want them again.

i don't really understand why there isn't an extension to do it in FF, there must be a lot of demand for it.

i'm going to check out this Vista-Aero thing anyway...
842
just a bit of fun: you can get similar results using plugins already available, as daddydave said above.

if you like having lots of tabs open (or hidden) try TooManyTabs: https://addons.mozil.../firefox/addon/9429/ which will give you a double decker style tab bar. then you can move tabs up and down to arange/categorise them in a "visual" way.

or, try Speed Dial (as daddydave mentioned). here's a screengrab i've just done after messing about. you can't zoom with Speed Dial; i tried setting a dial to open another Speed Dial "group" but it didn't work. anyway, if you up the number of rows/columns and hide unused dials you'll get a similar look to Tab Candy.

Clipboard01.png

p.s.
i'm pretty sure i saw something that nearly did the IE "colour tabs by relation to original tab" thing. it didn't have the other options you get from Tab Mix Plus so i removed it. nor did it work well alongside TMP - which i have colouring my tabs by current, read, unread (which i now think is actually better than the IE colouring method).
edit:
think i might have just been thinking of this instead, so not exactly like IE colours to be honest: https://addons.mozil.../firefox/addon/8004/

edit:
thought i'd also say, you can drag those dials around to change your grid layout. i'm now going to start using it instead of Tab Candy - why wait around.
843
thanks. i've watched the videos in the past but it's only now that i appreciate some of the things they say - so it was worth watching them again.

there are a lot of things to consider when thinking about how scripts could be used - and tags - and reports.

i think it will be a while before i conclude i've set up the perfect revisioning system. lots of problems to discover first.
844
ooh, i love this kind of thing. nice to understand why i'm not the perfect human being i'm meant to be - no matter how little i try  :)

i'm currently reading Mindless Eating by Brian Wansink http://www.amazon.co...-Think/dp/0553804340 which explains, pretty much, everything you needed to know about the psychology of eating. it's not a diet book.

845
i'll try and figure out exactly what is happening first with this current job - it would help if i could remember what i did over the past few days.

then i'll try and come back with a method of keeping things manageable in the future. but i really think that is going to be something like "tag everything on day one AND/OR lock it". (maybe the zip plugin could be used or the duplicate plugin. not really thought about that yet.)

the Report Window does allow to protect everything in one go (i.e. show everything and protect it), which i've always wanted to be able to do - it was too laborious clicking through each directory and selecting "protect" with my old FileHamster. whilst protecting everything i'll just add a tag to everything at the same time - then that can be how i'll filter out unedited files (not sure if the time/date feature will be enough on its own).
846
yes, at the moment it looks like i'll have to use a tagging system to get what i want. as usual, half way through a project isn't the time to start messing about so i'll change my work methods on the next job.
847
Then you would have to use the date filter to exclude the initial revision.
ah, good idea. that could well be it. i'll have to experiment. i have some files locked and i "think" i added a directory at some point - which might be messing it up.

i'll try some tests to get to the bottom of it and report back.

thanks, tomos.
848
(sorry, i edited my previous comment whilst you were writing yours.)

hmm, i've just tried the instructions above and my output report contains 2151 files

in other words, it looks like it's showing me more than what i've edited - i've definitely not edited thousands of files. i've edited about 20.

the actual number of files within the folder being watched is 2162 - so, i'm a little perplexed as to what is happening.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: FileHamster discount link
« Last post by nudone on July 28, 2010, 05:18 AM »
ah, yes, very good. didn't see that export option.

i've now remembered why i wanted the report feature - posted a comment in the other thread: https://www.donation....msg213757#msg213757
850
hmm. hopefully i'm just being dumb...

i was hoping the report feature would allow me to see which files have been revisioned, i.e. only the files that have been modified within a Watch.

could be any day, any time, with any number of saves. i just want to know which files i've tampered with and which i've definitely left alone.

i'm thinking i'm going to have to use something external to FileHamster to give me this information. or, as i said, am i being incredibly dumb - can i just display this kind of information in windows explorer or something?

edit:
maybe i should explain a little more.

a tyical Watch for me is a project containing several folders (and sub folders) with several hundred (or thousand) files. well, FTP dumps from web sites i'm working with. i try to make notes on what files i edit but things often go wrong on the server i'm working with - i wanted the report feature in FH to help me show that i'd not tampered with problem files (or to prove me wrong and show i'd forgotten about editing a file).

if i select a range of dates and ask the report to show me "newest revisions" it appears to show me every single file in the watch. or, at the very least, it shows files i've not edited at all. maybe i'm overlooking something, so i ought to try to test watches out.
