Privacy policies are regularly amended, I have seen that many times. I don't want to sound like I am defending them because I am not and wouldn't want to but to have privacy policy apply to 'new users from now on' is little use to corporations legally speaking.
no,
I know you're not defending! - as I say, it's probably the first I've really looked at.
I going to go make a new email address - I mean usually for a trial they might want a name & email at most, dont know why they trying to make it so difficult

Hmmm the 'company page' (i.e. the one where you have to fill in company details) seems to be related to my signature(!) - to get a trial of one of their 'standard' apps, you get a regular register page (name/city/email) but for the FreeHand progrmame (which they're still selling, in spite of not developing it) to download that trial, you need to be a company - I guess they dont want to make it too accessible for various reasons (you actually have to search for Freehand there - I think the only reason they selling it at all was possibly a condition of their purchase of Flash - & everything else - from Macromedia)

And as you have the foresight to have chosen to live in the EU, your local privacy laws will be pretty robust.  :)
thanks for that vote of confidence in me . . and the EU privacy laws ;D

General Software Discussion / a Privacy policy "as amended from time to time" - huh?
« Last post by tomos on November 26, 2009, 01:09 PM »
Can this possibly even be legal? I presume it is but you never know ;)
I tried to download a trial of an Adobe product - it (twice) sent me to 'a company page' (maybe only companys are allowed download trial? I dunno) looking for pretty much all my contact details so I thought I'd better look at the privacy policy

Please note that the practices of Adobe Systems Incorporated, its affiliates, and agents ("Adobe"), with respect to data collected and used by Adobe in connection with this website and all other websites of Adobe with authorized links to this policy (collectively, the "Site") and Adobe products and services available or enabled via the Site ("Products and Services"), are governed by this online privacy policy ("Privacy Policy") as amended from time to time, and not the privacy policy in effect at the time the data was collected.
My emphasis. Link

so basically there's no point in even reading the policy... (no point in giving private details either...)
I'm shocked (really) - is this kind of thing common ? - I never read this stuff usually

[removed 'Adobe' from the title as this seems to be standard - & the reason they looking for so much info explained in reply #3]

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: CZB pack
« Last post by tomos on November 26, 2009, 06:56 AM »
Well I would start by erasing everything in user variables settings.
how is that done czb?
I happen to have just installed CZB pack today (first time but I still had a lot of the earlier versions which I simply deleted first - no problems!) - you do say in the first post to delete user variables - how is that done - is it the ini file? (I didnt know how to do it & then conveniently forgot it :-[ plugins seem to be working okay though)

# 10. can you just allow user to put in path to their external editor ? (maybe that's what you had in mind, but, just in case - I reckon this would be important to lots of people)

5. It's Official: Software is Owned, Not Licensed
http://www.net-secur...secworld.php?id=8286
It seems you can now legally resell a second-hand copy of software in the US; you own it.

Quote
Autodesk, a California based software company that has been suing one Timothy Vernor for second-hand sale of (legitimate) copies of the company's software via eBay, has lost the suit.

Out-Law News reports that Autodesk tried to prove that the software in question is licensed (not sold), and that Vernor's attempt to sell it constitutes copyright infringement - but the court found that there isn't enough evidence to back that claim.

any develompents on that one?

anyone know what the situation is in EU, or worldwide?

I've always though Gin&Tonic is a pretty girly drink :)
The fact that it seems to smell like perfume to me doesn't help :P

reminds me of that scene in 'The Hairdresser's Husband' [french film - good, but maybe not worth (my) finding a link] where they start drinking the perfumes & after-shaves & god-knows-what else... speaking of films I saw a cowboy-parody once, no idea of the name, where cowboy goes into bar and asks for 'a warm gin with a human hair in it'  hmmmmmmmmmm :-)

PS Mouser- I'm not brave enough to try your cocktail - actually it sounds good but I dont have the accessories for cocktails (including mixers e.g. bitters) so it's not so easy to try it out.  Who knows, maybe you'll throw a cocktail party someday :)

cross post:

Prevx is wrong, very wrong.  This is a false positive that is frequently triggered on developers using the Autohotkey programming langauge, and it's driving programmers crazy.

[...] And can I post the exe and dll as an attachment?  Is that appropriate.  I definitely would like the feedback and the forum to discuss design decisions.  I've got a few things to fix but give me a week.

you'd have to zip those type of files (or whatever).  Sounds very interesting look forward to it :)

If you get drunk and screw up your computer, they shouldn't have to fix it. </sarcasm>
:tellme: excuse me ma'am, have you been drinking and computing :tellme:

Of course,
I find my attitude affects my computer - if I'm impatient or stressed computer problems go up accordingly (magnetic energy maybe? or just the negative )))vibes((( or just pressing those damn keys too quick :-[). So maybe they should give me a personality test or put a hidden camera in my computer with sensory testing equipment to make sure I dont void the warranty  aaaaghhh... :-)

I would have thought get cash back meant that too (it even says 'check' doesnt it) but there's that dangerous * after it, with no sign of what it refers to at the bottom...

I was reading the back catalogue of Dilbert for a while there, it's great stuff but it started depressing me after a while cause there were all these comments saying my boss is like that, my company is like that (like the example here)

Here's a recent Lifehacker post Top 10 Ergonomic Upgrades for Your Workspace
and
they have this video embedded
Video podcast - exercises for tendonitis and carpal tunnel which they better describe as ["b]Use exercises to ward off RSI[/b]" - they're very good exercises if you spend a lot of time at the keyboard and/or using the mouse -
it feels really good to sttretch those tendons ;)

(I'm still a huge fan of the Gokhale 'method' btw - things just get better & better learning posture via her method - this from someone who usually gives up 'that kind of thing' after a week or two)

Go into options -> Folder Browsing -> Check the "Don't differentially score files in explicit directory browsing mode"

(a bit of a sheepish) Thanks!
I promise to study options & screencasts before I ask any more questions :-[ :)

Find And Run Robot / Re: "Mail" instead of "Thunderbird"

one last (?!) query:

I dont seem to be able to give the files in the folder preference (scorewise) and I dont understand the sort either. it's always the same sort but not alphabetical - they appear to be sorted by created date but cause there's currently only a few files I cant be 100% sure of that.

Not that important at the mo but, as I add more files to the folder, it would be helpful to know how that aspect (sort) works & if there's any options there.

as far a learning resource, there are dozens of screencasts here:

https://www.donationcoder.com/3ds/

ah yes, thanks - I'll start off with the alias ones - I actually meant though: is there a resource for learning reg-ex for absoloute beginners (that you, or anyone could recommend) ?

Find And Run Robot / Re: "Mail" instead of "Thunderbird"

the regex and $$1 lets you filter the contents of the directory in case you didn't guess already :)

I'll take your word for that lol
if I need to actually filter for filetype at some stage I'll ask again - or is there a resource somewhere for people who dont have a clue ? (i.e. understandable for people who dont have a clue

Going back to the interface - I think what is most confusing (for me still) is that when I go to edit an alias, the window is titled "Edit group alias" and the first field says "Group alias name" - but if I'm editing a single alias that first field should say "Alias name" or if it's doubling up for both single & group aliases it could say "Group or Alias name" (?)
or
am I misunderstanding things?
